                * 1987 Volvo 240 DL Wagon *

Before you and up for bid at NO RESERVE is my 1987 Volvo 240 DL Wagon.

The particulars of the Volvo are as follows:

*  One family owned (military) since purchased new in Florida.

*  Non-smoker, no pets

*  After 5 years in Florida, the family and Volvo transferred to Virginia.

*  In 1997, a European assignment position was offered and the Volvo accompanied the relocation to Germany.  Upon assignment conclusion, the Volvo was imported back into the states, and brought to Colorado.

*  CARFAX certified NO ACCIDENT history.  Additionally, the ownership history including the export/import is documented within the CARFAX. (in hand)

*  Original paint and solid body.  The clear coat on the roof is thin as is a small spot on the hood.  The body is straight with good doors and panel fit. Beneath the doors and rocker panels look good with no rust.  The passenger side front door has a slight scuff along with the rear wheel well, this as a result of a sliding barn door. (see pic)

*   After years of typical family use, including transporting two daughters through college, the Volvo has been relegated to use as a station car or for when family/friends visit Colorado.  It has also proven suitable for the stacking upon of garage stuff.  The minimal use no longer justifies keeping it when someone else could benefit from its daily use.

*  Volvo wagons are venerable for their safety & reliability...you know that.  The car is # 5 on Kiplingers list of "The Top Ten Cars That Refuse To Die" article from 2011.

*  5 Speed manual transmission, very desirable and difficult to source.  Shifts well through all gears, good clutch.

*  In anticipation of the sale, the follow has just been performed:

Full detail including seat removal to shampoo the carpets.

New windshield, the one replaced was the factory original.

New rear tail lights.

New tail gate lift supports

Servicing with fresh fluids and in general going through it to make sure all safety features are functional, (horn, wipers, lights, turn signals, etc.)

Front alignment

*  2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine, holds a smooth idle and runs well.  NO annoying oil drips or leaks

*  Factory AC car, it is not blowing cold.  The heater/defroster work fine.

*  Approximately 146K total miles, I say approximate, for the speedometer stopped working.  A replacement cluster was sourced and installed.  It indicates 166K.  The original will accompany the sale.

*  Volvo's are not without their inherent quirks, these are usually electrical in nature and manifest in the form of erratic idiot lights displaying or the above referenced cluster/speedo/odometer issues.  In the case of my 240, the rear wiper does not always return to the down position, the seat belt indicator light will remain on when belts are fastened, the emergency brake light light will also occasionally display when the brake is not set.  The clock tells the correct time...twice daily.

*  Upgraded factory Volvo alloy wheels with matching Falken tires, good tread wear remaining.  The doughnut spare has never been on the ground.  Original jack, tool pouch and tire tool.

*  Power locks

*  Power steering, power brakes

*  There is no radio and the top of the dash has cracks typical of these cars.

*  Good, clear glass throughout.  All windows roll up and down properly.

*  Nice upholstery for the front seats, they are still very supportive.  The secondary row has some small cracks in the right seating area vinyl.  The seat folds flat accordingly to increase the cargo capacity.  The car is not equipped with the third row seat, though these are fairly easy to source if one desires.

*  Good headliner and sun visors.

*  All door and body weather stripping is soft and pliable.

*  Yakima roof rack included.

At 27 years of age, the Volvo still looks decent, it's a clean car and a good reliable vehicle.  The car is an ideal commuter, daily driver or safe economical student vehicle.

Offered at NO RESERVE, you are bidding to purchase the Volvo, not to be the first to "look at it".  Thank you.

Please have your funding in place prior to placing your bid, as most banks will not finance a vehicle of the Volvo's age.

The Volvo and I are located in the Colorado Springs vicinity.

Transportation and/or shipping are the sole responsibility of the buyer.

Trailered delivery is possible in the lower 48 states for $1000.00 (non-negotiable).

I can recommend a reputable shipper for you, if needed.

While I am confident that the Volvo could be driven home to anywhere in America, I do not recommend driving it home.  Older cars are just that...older cars.  Miles from home is not the place to get acquainted with your "new" older car.  Get it home first.  With that said, if you choose to drive it home, I can't stop you and will gladly pick you up from the airport in Colorado Springs.

Inspections are welcomed and will be facillitated to the best of my ability prior to the auction concluding.

If you are "new' to eBay, have 0% feedback, years of inactivity on eBay, excessive negative feedback or less than 10 transactions, you will need to CALL ME prior to placing your bid and express your intentions.  Otherwise, your bid will be cancelled and you will be blocked from further bidding.

This simple guideline is in place to preserve the integrity of the auction from those that would bid and then not fulfill their purchase commitment.

A $1000.00 initial payment is due and payable within 24 hours of auction close VIA Paypal, NO exceptions.  The balance is then due and payable within 5 days thereafter under condition and arrangement made between myself and the buyer.

I prefer a legitimate bank to bank wire transfer for the balance as it provides a documented record of the transaction for both parties.

Ebay provides for only 24 pictures.  I have selected pictures that best present a concise overview of the car.  If you would like any area specific pictures, simply request them.

I answer my phone quicker than I respond to e-mail, call me directly with any questions.  If you reach my voice mail, leave me a brief message and I will return your call promptly.

If you would like to discuss a "buy it now", call me and PRESENT your offer.  DO NOT call and ask me, "what's the lowest that you'll take?"

Buyers from the U.S., Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand are welcome and encouraged to bid with confidence.

I have represented the Volvo accurately.  Given the age of the Volvo, it is understood and acknowledged to being sold in "as is" condition with no expressed, written or otherwise implied warranties.

Clear Colorado title in my name.  The title and the car will not be released until payment in full has been received.

Thanks for looking and good luck when you bid!

Jeff

This is Volvo's awesome S60 V8 Supercar entry [w/video]

Sat, 15 Feb 2014

Australian auto news has been dire for the last several months with all three automakers that build there announcing they would stop production within the next three years. But Volvo is providing a shot of excitement with the unveiling of its new S60 racecar for the upcoming season of the Australian V8 Supercar series.
The Volvo S60 racecar will use a 5.0-liter, naturally aspirated V8 based on Volvo's B8444S production engine that will be tuned to produce roughly 650 horsepower on E85 ethanol. Power will get to the ground via a six-speed sequential transmission, and it will be able to reach 62 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 185. All cars in the series use common parts for the chassis, transaxle, and rear suspension.
Volvo's Polestar performance arm will campaign two of the S60 racers this season. While Volvo might seem like an odd inclusion into Australian racing, it actually has quite a successful history. It won the 1986 Australian Touring Car Championship in a 240 and won the Bathhurst 1000 race in 1998 in an S40. Polestar is not new to racing either, having been racing Volvos around the world since 1996.

Hot rod tractor stars in Swedish version of Farmkhana

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

The Nordic countries are known for their beautiful fjords, blonde-haired populace and bitter cold for a good portion of the year. The hours spent indoors during the dark, cold season apparently gives a lot of time for some crazy brainstorming. Tire store chain Vianor is highlighting the Traktor Terror in a new video. If Ken Block is the master of Gymkhana, then these guys know all about Farmkhana in their custom, turbocharged tractor.
According to the YouTube description from Vianor, the tractor is a 1956 Volvo BM Terrier with an added roll cage, adjustable front suspension and extended frame. The engine is thoroughly Swedish, and it's based on a Volvo 940 Turbo with a Volvo 240 head and Volvo 740 intercooler. However, it uses a Saab turbo Prospark ignition and fuel system. All told, the setup is claimed to make 225 horsepower and is capable of a top speed of 60 miles per hour.
That's not crazy power, but this tractor can certainly put it down. The farm machine has no problem smoking those big rear wheels and drifts easily.... although, it may be a tiny little bit unstable (hence the roll cage). If nothing else, this looks like the world's most fun way to be a farmer, that's for sure.

Volvo pranks newest valet on the Italian Riviera

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

Being a valet on the Italian Riviera seems like a pretty sweet gig for a young guy. Not only do you get to watch beautiful people coming and going all day and night, but there's the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a plethora of exotic sports cars. Of course, being responsible for those expensive vehicles has to be pretty nerve wracking to get used to on the first day.
In a new commercial, Volvo pranks a new valet at the San Remo Casino to see how he would handle a surprise showing up on the red carpet. If the look on his face in the screenshot above doesn't show it, he's pretty shocked by what he sees. We don't want to spoil the reveal, so just watch the ad to find out. Afterward, if you're interested in the details behind how Volvo made it happen, you can check out a short, making-of documentary, here.
