Volkswagen Type 3 Squareback 1973 Still Solid After 41 Years on 2040-cars

For your consideration a VW classic Type 3 Squareback in very nice condition for a daily driver or as a restoration project. The engine starts and runs, transmission shifts with no problems. Both have been checked out in a test drive. It has been lowered by the previous owner who also installed Airkewld Bad series disc brakes on all 4 corners. They are set up to receive a Japanese 5 bolt patterned wheel (Scion late model XB). Brakes work very well with this setup. The engine is equipped with Dual ICT's. The interior is in fair condition as the passenger seat is torn but the headliner, drivers seat, rear seat and door/rear panels are in good condition. The exterior is faded and has some very minor surface rust that can easily be sanded and repainted. "There is no rust through in these areas that are photographed" I tried to detail the condition of the rust in the pics so please examine closely and feel free to request additional pics, no disappointments! The Body is very solid and straight with minor dings but only a few. I could find no rust in the usual places for the T-3's and again I made an attempt to capture those areas in the pics. It also needs a front windshield, I have a new seal for it. All the additional glass is in good shape the seals would need to be replaced. Doors open and close evenly and solid. Electrical works, the PO also changed the front turn indicators for earlier model T-3's, an "ok" job but there it is! Please email with your questions or to request additional pics of specific areas. It also comes with a nice set of used BUDNIK custom wheels setup for the stock VW bolt pattern. Please understand this vehicle will need additional work to become road worthy but as it sits it's a very nice foundation for any Type 3 VW enthusiast!!! Don't forget to bring a trailer and Bid with confidence ...... NO RESERVE!!!!

Volkswagen Golf Variant Concept R-Line puts the sport in SportWagen
Wed, 06 Mar 2013With the introduction of the newest Volkswagen Golf Variant, we get an early look at what will most likely be the next-generation Jetta SportWagen here in the US. To further wet our appetities, VW is now teasing something a little sportier with the Concept R-Line. Looking the part of a GTI wagon (or a stretched Golf R), the Golf Variant Concept R-Line has a production-ready appearance that has us hoping we'll see this sporty wagon sooner rather than later.
The R-Line starts off with a new fascia that isn't quite as aggressive as the recently introduced GTI, but it gives the new styling some extra punch. Below the fascia is a lower splitter that visually carries back into the rocker panel extensions, and the rear of the car gets some bright exhaust tips and a rear diffuser. The Lapis Blue Metallic paint job probably does enough on its own to add a sporty flair to the Golf wagon, and it's all finished off with 18-inch split-spoke wheels. Inside, the Concept R-Line shows off sport seats wrapped in carbon leather featuring blue nappa inserts in the middle.
Rightfully so, VW brought the Concept R-Line to Geneva with its TDI and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. A sporty, all-wheel-drive diesel wagon? Yes, please. Scroll down for the full press blast with all the details.
Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe is a green fun-machine we want to drive
Fri, 19 Apr 2013Think back to January's Detroit Auto Show. Those of you that are fans of the Volkswagen brand, impressed with green technology or simply fall into the "diesel geek" category, will almost certainly remember VW's CrossBlue concept with its diesel/electric hybrid powertrain, seating for seven, and somewhat awkward crossover styling. It was an impressive piece of future tech, to be sure, though it left something to be desired in the, well, desirability department.
Here in Shanghai, VW has brought along a CrossBlue Coupe concept that would seem to include most of the goodness of the original, but flavored with more sport and style this time around.
The CrossBlue Coupe makes use of the same electric drive components as the larger three-row concept: two electric motors (front and rear) powered by a 9.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. However, where the original concept made use of a TDI four-cylinder, the Coupe substitutes a 295-horsepower, direct-injection, gasoline-burning V6.
China sticking to its guns on EVs for the future
Mon, Apr 27 2015Automakers are obviously free to develop whatever next-gen, zero-emissions tech that they want. However, if a company wants to get on the good side of the Chinese government, that strategy better include some plug-in vehicles. The authorities there are lending major support to plug-ins at the moment, and its forcing the auto industry to play along. According to Bloomberg, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and BMW are all launching dedicated EV brands with their joint venture partners, and as many as 40 electric models could hit the Chinese market this year alone. However, analysts don't think the vehicles are going to sell well. Instead, the launches are essentially a way for companies to play nice with the government and help get the approval to build factories in the country. Take Toyota as an example. The company is pushing the future of hydrogen hard with promotional films for the Mirai and engineers talking down fast-charging EVs. Still, the Japanese automaker is getting ready to launch two EV brands in China with its joint venture partners, according to Bloomberg. China's push for alternative fuels has been happening for a while, but it really kicked into high gear last year. The government has set a goal to improve fleet-wide economy by 40 percent by the end of the decade in order to spend less importing oil and for the population's health. The plan has shown some success so far with hybrid and EV sales growing early in 2015.
