Completely clean AutoCheck report!

Car is in good condition, runs but has some issues:

The cons:
Rear brakes are sticking due to some rust and will need to be replaced.  CEL codes are coming up as well due to O2 sensors needing to be replaced.  I will include one of the two that it appears to need.  O2 sensor codes are not always about the O2 sensor but I got it anyway, just didn't get around to replacing it.  Car does not start up on first crank, it takes a second crank to get it going, this happens only on a cold start.  It works fine if stopping the engine and then turning it back on within a few minutes.

Windsor blue with tan/black leather interior, needs a bit of work but have a lot of extra stuff to go with it to make this a very excellent deal.

The pros:
  • All doors, handles and windows work without any issues. Has a nice aftermarket CD/AM/FM unit.
  •  Completely redone headliner (looks brand new, took me some time to do it but it was well worth it).
  • Shocks were replaced with Bilstein TC units about 20,000 mi ago.  Water pump, and all cooling plastic components (thermostat housing, water distribution pipe, etc.) were replaced about 10,000 mi ago.  Pulley for accessory belt was replaced with an all-aluminum version.  Front suspension components (ball-joints, bushings, tie rod ends) were replaced about 40,000 mi ago.
  • Car was kept in excellent condition with oil changes every 3-4 thousand  miles.
  • Almost all highway miles since I've owned it.
  • Interior is well-maintained and clean.  Some minor blemishes around the inside, some torn leather on the driver's seat and a smaller tear on the passenger's seat also.
  • Will include a variety of extra parts. Rear brake caliper, rear brake pads, rear rotor, O2 sensor, and other extra parts as well.
  • Also including the original 5-speed transmission that came with the car.  It was replaced due to issues with the reverse gear.  Car is working fine with replacement transmission.
  • 4x Michelin Ice-X snow tires used for one season are on the car now.  I will also include 8x of the bottle-cap (stock) rims (2 sets).
  • Exterior is in decent shape.  Does have a crease on driver's side door and some expected wear and tear.
Location is in Rhinebeck, NY (near the Kingston/Poughkeepsie area, 100 miles (approximately 2 hours) straight north of NYC).

Car runs but brakes are dragging a bit, best to come pick up with dolly or have it repaired somewhere locally.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.  I will reply within a few hours, if not instantly.

Prop-driven VW Beetle hopes to land in Bonneville [w/video]

Thu, 10 Jan 2013

Sometimes you meet folks who, when they tell you "Hey, I have an idea," your reflex response is to stop what you're doing and tell yourself, "Get ready...." We imagine Mike Niemans is one of those folks, and the idea in question is putting a tank engine on a Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Not just any old tank engine - as if there were such a thing when we're talking about putting them in cars - but a 668-cubic-inch, 220-horsepower radial engine built by Continental in 1941 and procured from an M2 tank.
In the image above Nieman is using the tank clutch hub to get the motor set up, but in one of the images below you can see what really belongs back there is: a two-inch, reverse-pitch prop taken from a wind generator. He says there's enough mojo with the propeller action to get the car rolling down the runway like a jet when he gives it gas - and speaking of gas, the engine's been refitted to run on propane.
After a few safety tweaks Nieman's going to take the matte-black Beetle to Bonneville, "put the prop on, let her go and see what happens!" We can't wait to see the video of that. There are two shakedown videos below to get you ready.

Audi investing $30.3 billion through 2018 for product expansion

Sun, 29 Dec 2013

How does Audi plan to reach two million units in annual sales and pay for the 11 new models it's adding to its lineup - an expansion that may include models named SQ2, Q9 and F-Tron? By increasing its investment to 22 billion euros ($30.3 billion US) between now and 2018. That figure represents an increase of about 500 million euros over the previously planned outlay, according to a report by Automotive News, and that could be due to Audi wishing to goad the momentum that pushed it to 1.5 million annual sales two years ahead of schedule.
It's also about staving off the challenges from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Now that BMW has been able to turn some of its attention away from its "i" series of Megacity cars, it will reportedly spend more than planned in 2014 as it continues the rollout of ten all-new vehicles and 15 new-generation vehicles through the end of next year. Mercedes, having been dropped to third in the sales race, is preparing to add 13 new cars over the next six years.
Audi's money is going into technology, into product like the next-generation TT and the Q1 and production expansions and upgrades all over the world. The expenditure represents just under a fourth of Volkswagen's 84.2 billion-euro ($115.7 US) outlay devoted to taking the number-one global automaker title away from General Motors and Toyota by 2018.

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.
