I have a 1972 VW Karmann Ghia 2 door coupe. The body is in good
condition, no body damage and no cancer at all throughout the vehicle, very
original car from what I can tell. The floor boards and
trunk pan are very solid with no rust at all. The bumpers are nice and sturdy with no rust also. The interior is in
decent shape with no major tears in the seats, It looks to be all original, The dash is fair but has some cracks and the head liner has a couple tears in it. All dash lights and instruments work even the
seat belt light and buzzer. The only real rust is near the bottom of the quarter panel rear passenger side, but could easily be repaired you cant see it from the pictures, but has slightly started to bubble in the paint in that area. All doors open and all as they should and the glass is in good shape. The trunk and engine hatches pop open as they should. The Headlights, tail lights and windshield wipers are all in working order. It has front disk brakes
which allow the car to slow down very easily, a big plus because this car
really likes to move down the road! The chrome is all in
good shape and all the trim pieces seem to be there as well as emblems ect. It has a 1600cc that does start and run and idles very nicely, the 4 speed transmission shifts great. Mechanically the car performs very well. I drive the car 2-3 times a week, but it could very easily be a daily driver. I have had it on the highway and it drives just fine, but I would consider this a more comfortable around town vehicle.
I bought the car from a gentleman who has owned it for the last 5 years. It has been garage kept most of its life. I bought it to
have as a nice fun second car, but the wife says I need something with four doors. With a little work this car could be a nice show car, but for now it
is a great driver. If someone wanted to
restore it and make it a nice show vehicle this would be a perfect candidate. If you have any

Volkswagen lays off 500 Chattanooga workers
Fri, 19 Apr 2013The redesigned Volkswagen Passat has been a decent seller since its debut in 2011, but sales have apparently dropped off enough that the automaker is trimming some of the employees from its Chattanooga, TN assembly plant. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen will be cutting shifts and laying off 500 contracted workers in response to slowing sales.
Currently, the plant has three teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Saturday, but starting May 13, this will be reduced down to two teams running 10-hour shifts Monday through Thursday. This will be done to reduce dealer inventory (the article says that VW dealers, on average, have a 97-day supply of Passats) and production capacity (currently running at an annual pace of 170,000 units, which is more than the 150,000 annual units the plant was planned to produce).
This, of course, isn't saying that the Passat has been a failure since VW added 200 full-time employees to the plant in February 2012 to keep up with increased demand. The AN article says that automakers frequently overstaff plants during the launch of a new product - or in this case, a new product and a new plant - but eventually reduce the workers as things run smoother and more efficiently.
Brazil contemplates safety exemption for VW Kombi as it goes out of production today [w/poll]
Tue, 31 Dec 2013Brazil: the country of carnivals, indescribable beauty adjacent to abject poverty, Ayrton Senna and old Volkswagen models. Only they're not old - they're new, they're just based on old designs. The original Beetle continued production there long after it had been phased out elsewhere, but the original Kombi van has lasted much longer. That ends today, however, with the iconic VW Microbus ambling out of production on the last day of 2013.
VW kept making the van in Brazil with the original air-cooled 1.2-liter boxer four until 2005, after which the original design was updated with a 1.4-liter water-cooled engine. Today, however, it ultimately falls prey to safety regulations that mandate that all vehicles - no matter how old their design - need to have airbags and ABS, forcing Volkswagen do Brasil to cease production of the Microbus after a 56-year production run. But the latest word is that the Kombi (as it's presently known) could get a stay of execution - or at least a resurrection in short order.
According to reports, the Brazilian government is looking into granting the Type 2 Microbus an exemption from said safety regulations, reasoning that the van was designed long before the advent of airbags and ABS. If the measure goes through, the Kombi Last Edition (pictured above) could prove not to be the last at all. Automakers score 8 out of top 20 most-watched ads on YouTube [w/videos]
Fri, 14 Dec 2012Who would have ever thought there'd be a day where people are able to skip television commercials only to go to websites to watch them later? Such is the joy of a DVR and YouTube. AdWeek tabulated the 20 most-watched ads on YouTube, and found that nine were car-related including eight coming from automakers.
Volkswagen continued its Star Wars theme with two ads in the top 20, including the highest-ranking car commercial The Bark Side spot at number three with almost 18 million views, which doesn't even have a single car in it. Some of our favorites are from Chrysler with Clint Eastwood in It's Halftime in America and House Arrest with Charlie Sheen for the Fiat 500 Abarth. Chevrolet, Honda, Audi and Toyota were the other automakers in the top 20, but we'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention one of the coolest ads on the list, the Hot Wheels corkscrew jump.
Of all the car videos, only the Fiat ad wasn't played during a Super Bowl. Check out all eight videos - in order - after the jump. Nike took the top spot with its My Time is Now ad that has been seen online more than 20 million times with Pepsi's Uncle Drew posted up in the runner-up; some of the other videos include four Old Spice commercials and an ad in which Snoop Dogg is pedaling Hot Pockets.
