1966 Convertable Volkswager Karmann Ghia 1600cc on 2040-cars
Mission Hills, California, United States
This is an Original and Classic 1966 Convertible VW Karmann Ghia with a 1600cc engine. If you are looking for a classic convertible Karmann Ghia you will be challenged to find a nicer car than this one. The car looks, runs, and drives great. When on the road this Jet Black Ghia is a real head turner. The vehicle itself is solid and has never been in any kind of car accident. The body has all of its original metal and the nose area which is susceptible to experiencing damage is intact, a virgin car. Although this beautiful car was made in Germany its true home has been Southern California for the past 48 years. Maybe not born in SoCal, but certainly raised here. In truth the car has spent about the previous 10 years covered up in a garage until the restoration was started. The exterior as well as interior restoration was completed about five years ago, but the car went right back into the garage where it sat and only exercised once a month to keep all of the moving parts functioning correctly. The vehicle itself is fully converted to a 12 volt system. It has a super strong 1600cc engine with a single dual port carb that is ready to go and go fast. Basically what you see in the photographs is what you will receive. Unfortunately the photographs cannot capture the full beauty of the car, but I guarantee that if you like the pictures than you will love the car. Facts and issues that must be addressed; As I previously mentioned the car is in
wonderful working condition and I am confident that you will love your
purchase, but in all fairness to the buyer I must mention all defects that I have
found. Although the pan is in great shape it does have a small hole about the
size of a .50cent piece behind the driver’s seat. The fix is very simple but I
must disclose this fact. As with most VW engines there is a small oil leak around
the oil pan area. The car has very minor scratches that are not visible under
normal inspection, but if you look hard enough you will find them (about 3).
The front header wooden bow of the convertible top was replaced due to damage. Unfortunately I decided to use graphite (more
resistant to water damage) and not wood, which I regret. I believe that the
wooden bow would have given me a better fit. Although the head lights, break
lights, and signals operate normally the wire harness should be updated. |

VW using other manufacturing locations as leverage in battle with TN [w/video]
Sat, 26 Apr 2014We've reached a new step in the ongoing drama at Volkswagen's factory in Chattanooga, TN. The United Auto Workers recently dropped its opposition to the union vote and agreed that it wouldn't hold another ballot for at least a year. Now, the new question becomes where VW is going to build its forthcoming midsize SUV.
Earlier, it had been considered all but certain that the SUV, likely a production version of the CrossBlue concept (pictured above), would be built in Tennessee. However, it seems the Chattanooga factory might have competition to produce it. In emails obtained by The Detroit News, VW's lawyer wrote to the Tennessee economic development department in January saying, "While we understand there are some 'non-deal' issues that are causing a delay in the TN solution, VW has been successful in reaching agreement on terms at the alternative locations."
As previously reported, the state of Tennessee allegedly offered VW about $300 million in incentives to build the vehicle there and create an estimated 1,350 jobs, but it later rescinded the deal. Newly leaked documents from NewsChannel 5 (WTVF-TV) in Nashville allegedly show just how close that offer was to being completed. It appears that VW actually sent the government the first draft of a memorandum of understanding agreeing to the incentives, but the state removed the offer in late January.
Volkswagen Golf R wagon promises to be fast and functional [w/poll]
Tue, 25 Mar 2014Volkswagen's array of performance-oriented Golfs keeps getting bigger and bigger. What started with the GTI has since grown to include the diesel GTD, the hybrid GTE and the most powerful Golf R. But the additions haven't all come down to powertain. There's been cabrio versions of the GTI and Golf R as well, but before all is said and done, there will be one more bodystyle to join the lineup.
That, according to these latest spy shots, would be the Golf R Variant. For those unfamiliar, Variant is what Volkswagen calls the wagon version of the Golf (in some markets, anyway). It offers the Golf Variant with a variety of engines, but as the spy shots reveal, it is now working on bringing the Golf Variant and the Golf R together into one high-powered, long-roofed model.
The VW Golf R Variant would in all likelihood pack the same 2.0-liter turbo four as the hatchback, splitting 290 horsepower between all four wheels. Only in the wagon, it would offer that extra bit of utility. Of course there's no guarantee that Volkswagen would offer the Golf R Variant in the North American market, but considering that the Golf R hatchback will soon be joined in American showrooms by the Golf SpotWagen (as it's tipped to be called here) in place for the Jetta wagon, the possibility is definitely there.
UK auto magazine says this is the best car commercial of all time [w/videos]
Thu, 20 Dec 2012There have been many great car commercials over the years, but is it possible to define the best? Well, Ad Week recently took a crack at it by rating the top commercials of the year by looking at their view counts on YouTube, but Auto Express took a more democratic approach by putting the decision to a vote. Just after Thanksgiving, Auto Express came up with a list of the 20 popular commercials, and it tasked its readers with choosing the winner for the best car ad of all time. The winner? Honda's 2003 commercial for its then-new European Accord titled "The Cog."
While the ad never aired in the US, most car people have surely seen the impressive Rube Goldberg-style spot. In fact, the only commercial on this list that we saw on US television was the Volkswagen ad "The Force," but many of the others have become viral videos, including transforming and dancing Citroën C4. Of the 19 other commercials that vied for the title of best ad of all time, only the Ford Puma "Steve McQueen" commercial gave Honda a run for its advertising money.
Scroll down to watch Auto Express' top five commercial in order and to check out a press release, then let us know some of your favorite car commercials in Comments.
