The car is solid, runs great and has no mechanical problems. My buddy, the current owner of this car has kept it in great working order. I was the previous owner of the car and work at VW and had all the maintenance done there even if it didnt need it.The car was a lease first then I bought the lease out as a certified vw, then after all that I sold it to the current owner so between the two of us you can ask and get most of all the answers since the car was new. Which you will not find any where else on a ten year old car. The car has 143xxx on the clock, the transmission/ clutch/flywheel, timing belt/water pump, and turbo have all been replaced within 60k miles ago, perks of working at a dealership. The control arm, wheel bearings, and pretty much every bushing in the front suspension has been replaced. The check engine light is on due to removing all the secondary air system and all the extra piping under the hood to clean up the engine bay. Tires are in ok shape and have good tread on them. What you see in the pictures is what you get. Remember this is a a ten year old car so its not perfect. If you are in the market for a GLI you will see most are not well maintained and still want more than I am asking. You will enjoy this car as much as I have. VW pondering low-cost sub-brand for China?
Wed, 30 Jan 2013More detail is being sketched into the Volkswagen Group's plan to launch a low-cost brand for emerging markets. Late last year a German report quoted a VW rep saying that the brand has been interested in building a no-frills car, the kind that would challenge Dacia and Datsun, for a while. With both Proton and Suzuki effectively out of the partnership picture, a report in Reuters suggests VW could go straight to China, developing a car with its joint venture partners and building and selling it there.
Officially, company CEO Martin Winterkorn said the issue of a model for emerging markets would be decided this year but VW isn't any closer to confirming any kind of plan for a car in its portfolio underneath the Up!, remarking to Reuters about the China possibility, "That's an issue we're currently looking at."

Fri, 26 Apr 2013Each year, the Vienna International Motor Symposium showcases some of the up-and-coming technologies automakers are engineering for the use in passenger cars, and Volkswagen AG CEO Martin Winterkorn revealed some big developments VW is working on for its future products. Winterkorn discussed a multi-faceted approach that VW is looking to reduce its fleet fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
Some of the bigger news he discussed included a "high-performance" diesel engine that will produce 134 horsepower per liter and a 10-speed DSG automatic transmission. While no specific applications were mentioned, we can only hope this is for the Audi R4 we keep hearing about.
Another topic he touched on that caused us to perk up our ears was had to do with VW's plug-in hybrid technology. While we know the PHEV versions of the Audi A3 and Porsche Panamera are on the way, Winterkorn also said that these two models will be followed up by Golf, Passat, Audi A6 and Porsche Cayenne plug-in models.
