Almost Restored 1986vw Golf on 2040-cars
Hughesville, Pennsylvania, United States
I have owned this car since I purchased it new in 1986. It has had extensive work already done to it which I'll list as follows:
New front struts, tie rods, both CV joints, new fuel injectors, shift linkage, rebuilt clutch, brakes (but may need attention since car has been sitting for some time), Tires are good. body has almost no rust. Interior is OK but could use work if you so choose. The floor pan under the seats needs some welding done to it, the drivers side seat is very reluctant to move however this can be fixed with a small part, headliner needs replacing, some plastic interior trim needs replacing, there is no radio. The major item is that the head with cam shaft needs to be replaced along with new gasket and bolts. The car was last inspected in Jan 2011. This vehicle was a daily drive up to the point of doing all the above work and then the head gasket blew out. I will also provide a well worn repair manuel and a catalog from the Parts Place who have just about anything needed in the way of VW repair parts. This is where I have purchased items thru the years. The vehicle can not be driven obviously, and must be move via a towing company. This would be at the expense of the purchaser. Title transfer would also be at your expense. |

Help a couple drive their 1984 Vanagon around the world
Mon, 22 Apr 2013Meet Brad, Sheena and Nacho
Driving through China is a pricey proposition. The couple will need to pony up a staggering $19,514 just to cover the fees.
Brad and Sheena Van Orden are in the midst of a life-defining campaign to travel around the world, and they're doing it in a 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon custom built for the occasion. The past 15 months have seen the couple quit their jobs with Gore-Tex and drive from Arizona to the very southern tip of Argentina after spending a full two years saving and preparing for the trek. Now they're in southern Asia gearing up for the next leg of their journey.
VW debuts Get Happy Super Bowl ad
Mon, 28 Jan 2013
Brace yourself for another tidal wave of Super Bowl commercials. Volkswagen has released its spot for this year's big game. Set to air during the second quarter, the Get Happy spot follows one jubilant office worker as he makes his way through the day, spreading joy wherever he goes. The source of his happiness? A Volkswagen Beetle, of course. Now, if you're wondering why a gaggle of white guys are running around on your screen with Jamaican accents, it will help to know the spot is part of a larger Get Happy campaign featuring Jimmy Cliff.
The first ad in the series featured the artist singing his rendition of "C'Mon, Get Happy," complete with a little help from some notorious unhappy YouTube stars. You can take a look at the new ad before it airs below, along with the complete press release for a little more background.
Bentley considering diesel engine for new SUV
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Turns out, in case you didn't know, the rich are just like regular people. They too are concerned about the environment, even when tooling around town in their super-luxurious Bentleys. So the automaker is weighing the idea of offering a diesel engine in its SUV offering, which could help satisfy customers' demands for more fuel-efficient engines.
Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Schreiber told Autoblog in a roundtable interview at the Geneva Auto Show that the automaker is researching whether or not a diesel engine makes sense for the brand. Bentley, owned by the Volkswagen Group, could in theory use a diesel engine from anywhere in the Volkswagen Group family. We at Autoblog have hopes they'll revive the V10 TDI used in the VW Touareg until 2010, but ever-stricter emissions laws would likely make that problematic.
But rich people aren't so much like us that they'll be worried about petty things like pricing. Schreiber admitted the diesel engine could be a $15,000 option, which he said customers would probably find "acceptable." Given that the cheapest Bentley today starts at $177,000, typical customers probably won't be diddling around worrying about an extra 15 grand.
