This 2003 GTI VR6 was special ordered and purchased new in December of 2002.  I have been the only owner and the only driver.  For 2003 the VR6 engine was re-engineered and the horsepower was increased from 180 HP to 201 HP.  The manual transmission was also upgraded from a 5-speed to a 6-speed.  So this car is very economical but also very powerful and responsive.  It has all the options available that year:  The Monsoon Sound System, heated leather seats, tilting and sliding moon roof, adjustable steering wheel, a/c, etc.   It has always been garaged and meticulously maintained.  The mileage is low because I drive a company car during the week.  It has had two big 30,000 miles services (based on time, not mileage), and has always had synthetic oil changes every 3,000 miles.  Recently one ignition coil went bad, so we replaced all six. It has never been in any accidents, not even a minor fender-bender, and has never been to a body shop (please see my complete list of all scratches and dents along with corresponding photos).  If you have any questions, or if you'd like additional photos, please contact Peter Scott by email or at (415) 292-3623.

The car is in excellent mechanical condition and has never had any service problems.  There is a full-sized spare wheel and tire and the original factory jack.  The Experian Auto Check Title Report is provided with this ad.  Following here is a list of dings and scratches.  Please see the corresponding labeled photos.

There are small scratches on three of the four rims.

There are “parking lot” scratches on the body-colored protective strips of both doors.

There are scratches on both bumpers.

There are small scratches on both rear view mirrors.

There are small scratches on the right rear area of the roof.

There is a small scratch on the rear door.

There is a small dent (hard to see in the photo) in the right rear corner panel.

The plastic hinge for the center console lid is broken.  But the lid still snaps into place and holds securely

The retractable strings for the rear cargo cover are missing.  They are supposed to automatically lift the cargo cover when the tail gate is opened.

The front tires have a few thousand miles left on them and the rear tires are almost new.

There is one remote key/transponder and two valet keys.

VW updates Scirocco with revised styling, new engines

Sun, 16 Feb 2014

The Scirocco is undoubtedly one of the better-looking models in the Volkswagen lineup, but introduced back in 2008, it's now been on the market - some markets, anyway - for the better part of six years. VW is said to have an all-new replacement in the works, but before that arrives, the German automaker has announced a facelifted version with revised styling and a new engine lineup.
Set to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Scirocco benefits from updated styling front and rear, high-tech exterior lighting, a revised cabin space with some throwback retro touches, some new technologies and, of course, an array of fresh wheel options ranging from 17 to 19 inches.
The updated Scirocco will be offered with a wide array of engines right from the get-go, including four gasoline options and two diesels, spanning from 125 horsepower all the way up to the 280-hp Scirocco R. The 2014 model hits European showrooms in August, but unfortunately isn't any more likely to make the transatlantic voyage Stateside than the version it replaces. Still interested? There's plenty to see in the high-res image gallery above and details in the press release below.

Audi rumored to buy Alfa Romeo, officials deny it

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

For more than two years, Volkswagen has been making public statements about its willingness to buy Alfa Romeo and quadruple the Italian brand's sales, and for just as long, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has replied with some version of "Mr. Piëch, drop it." According to a report in Ward's Auto, all that jousting might be over: it claims that sources close to both Marchionne and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler admit that the two are in talks for Audi to buy not just Alfa Romeo, but a production plant in Italy. In fact, a final deal could possibly include partsmaker Magnetti Marelli.
Against that backdrop, a report by German news weekly Stern quotes a Fiat spokesmen as saying it doesn't comment on rumors and an Audi rep has said flatly that "There is no substance in the news." If a sale is being arranged, the timing would seem to point to how eager Fiat is to raise cash to complete its major initiatives. Even though Alfa Romeo continues to delay its return to the US, it just showed off the production version of the 4C at the Geneva Motor Show (shown above) and said that preferred Fiat dealerships here would get them. Then there's Alfa's recently concluded deal with Mazda to develop a roadster based on the next generation MX-5 Miata - a deal that would seem to help both the Italian and Japanese brands.
The monetary issues are troublesome, though. Fiat is taking a beating in the European market and its weak-kneed balance sheet is delaying gotta-have-it products like the Jeep Cherokee. Fiat has been talking to banks about getting money to buy the rest of Chrysler and those financial institutions have also raised issues about debt and cash reserves, and the nasty game of chess Fiat is playing with the United Auto Workers (and now the court system about the portion of Chrysler it doesn't own) could end up blowing another hole in Marchionne's plans. It is possible that this could finally have convinced Fiat to at least see how serious Audi's parent company, Volkswagen, is about buying Alfa Romeo. Or it could be just another rumor.

New VW Beetle Convertible ad needs no disguise

Mon, 18 Feb 2013

Convertibles make you do funny things. Ask someone if they'd drive a hardtop in near freezing temperatures with all the windows down and they might not even answer, thinking the question so ridiculous. Give that same person a convertible they love and you might just have to ask them to please put the top up even when snow is on the ground.
That guy has to take precautions to enjoy his proclivities, and as this new ad for the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible shows, not everyone understands. Have a watch below, and note that there's just one woman in the minute-long spot, and she's nowhere near the car. Seriously, why didn't VW run this commercial during the Super Bowl?
