Extremely Rare 1986 Vanagon Gl With 19,634 Registered Miles on 2040-cars
Stockbridge, Georgia, United States
How extremely rare is this a 1986 Vanagon GL 19,634 registered miles Oh yes, the odometer works. Driven hardly at all the last eleven years and parked for the last three by the previous owner. I bought it to install a turbo diesel in, but once I cleaned it up and got it running I just couldn’t bring myself to start the project. I have since procured a Syncro for the diesel conversion. The Good: 19,634 original miles Original Paint and Interior, it has spent its life here in Georgia, so no rust 95%+ tread remaining on tires(new or very close) Everything works including A/C, rear wiper and washer, A/C converted to R134 recharged and blows cold, belts and some hoses replaced, oil and filtered changed Engine always starts right up and runs smooth(it does have a slight valve tick if it is left to set) Transmission shifts smoothly, doesn’t seem to leak or use any fluid. Steering is tight, as you would expect on such a low mileage Vanagon. It rides and drives like new The seats are like new (except for a hole in drivers-pic). A rip at rear of sliding door panel The not so good: The paint is original but with typical nicks, dings, a few small scratches and a small dent by the passenger side brake light (see pics). Clear coat is not peeling anywhere but has some fading in areas. That said, it cleans up and shines nicely Exterior trim is sun faded around windows Dash is cracked, some interior brown trim pieces have become brittle(front door grab bars and window cranks, rear washer cap cover), map pocket has a crack It has been four of five years since I have seen a Vanagon with this low miles and this nice of original condition. Not that many out there left like this. I have a clear title in hand. I require a $500.00 nonrefundable deposit within 24 hours of the close of the auction via paypal by the winning bidder, the balance by wire transfer. I will accept wire transfer of funds to my bank only, no checks. Buyer responcible for shipping costs, funds must be in my bank account before I will release the car for shipment. Car sold as is, no warranty implied or expressed. I am not interested in trades unless you have vacation property in northern Georgia. |

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC
Sat, 22 Jun 2013Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.
Chrysler and Fiat offering $1,000 rebates to VW owners as Marchionne gets tough
Mon, 10 Dec 2012The throw-down between Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne and Volkswagen has heated up in earnest. According to Bloomberg, Fiat and Chrysler are now offering current Volkswagen owners in the US $1,000 rebates to trade in their ride. It's the latest in a series of shots Marchionne has taken at his German rival. As you may recall, the Fiat executive entered into a spat with Volkwagen board chairman Ferdinand Piëch and CEO Martin Winterkorn in October after the duo called for Marchionne's resignation from presidency of the European Automotive Manufacturers Association (AECA). At the time, the Volkswagen executives were quoted as saying Fiat would not survive the European economic downturn.
In response, Marchionne called the German executives "reprehensible," and accused Volkswagen of using a pricing strategy that has created created a "bloodbath" in the EU. Volkswagen has taken to steep discounting to carve out ever-larger slices of market share in Europe, but the company has a much smaller foothold in the US. Marchionne may be trying to hit Volkswagen where the manufacturer is weakest with the new Fiat new incentive program.
Late last week, the Fiat executive was voted to a second term as ACEA president.
Volkswagen and Funny or Die take humorous spin in 2015 Golf
Wed, 10 Sep 2014Volkswagen is partnering with Target and Funny or Die in a bizarre ad for the latest Golf starring comedian Rob Huebel, probably best known for his work on Childrens Hospital on Adult Swim.
The commercial is titled The Way Too Helpful Neighbor and stars Huebel as the eponymous neighbor. The challenge is for Huebel to help improve his buddy's apartment before the guy meets his girlfriend's parents for the first time. The obvious way to do that is to slide a new Golf through an actual Target in Texas, while simultaneously showcasing the store's goods and the car's features.
The commercial is airing online now and on TBS during breaks in Conan O'Brien's show, with sneak peaks during other programs on the network. Auto advertising is becoming pretty normal for Funny or Die at this point, though, with the site previously partnering with Fiat for several videos. Check out the ad above and see if you think it works. Scroll down for VW's announcement.
