1984 Vw Vanagon Westfalia Camper (2nd Owner) Runs Great! on 2040-cars
Stuart, Florida, United States
1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper (2nd owner) runs great! This
Volkswagen van was brought over from Germany by its’ first owner, who
maintained it very well. The standard transmission works great. I inherited
this van, so I don’t know as much about it, however I know it runs great and to
my knowledge doesn’t have any problems. From November to December last it was
driven on a two month tour of the south and down to the Florida keys. We will
not ship. The built in original kitchen includes; a refrigerator, sink, icebox, gas stove and swivel shelf table, all are in very good working condition and are very clean. The new hemp canvas top with screen and new tires were installed in November of last year. The interior also includes lots of storage cabinets, including a coat closet and additional storage under the fold down seat/bed. The bed sleeps 2 and the popup top has a loft that sleeps two, for a total of 4. The van has the original Volkswagen AC/heat and cooling, but also includes a screen for the back hatch (back of van opens up) and is great for breezy nights. The custom curtains for all windows offer lots of privacy, but can be easily taken down and stowed as well. The exterior has a built in easy access propane tank, and electric and water hookups. It also has a water tank for sink use later when hookups may not be available. The two front seats turn around for additional seating space. |

VW pondering low-cost sub-brand for China?
Wed, 30 Jan 2013More detail is being sketched into the Volkswagen Group's plan to launch a low-cost brand for emerging markets. Late last year a German report quoted a VW rep saying that the brand has been interested in building a no-frills car, the kind that would challenge Dacia and Datsun, for a while. With both Proton and Suzuki effectively out of the partnership picture, a report in Reuters suggests VW could go straight to China, developing a car with its joint venture partners and building and selling it there.
Officially, company CEO Martin Winterkorn said the issue of a model for emerging markets would be decided this year but VW isn't any closer to confirming any kind of plan for a car in its portfolio underneath the Up!, remarking to Reuters about the China possibility, "That's an issue we're currently looking at."
Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva
Thu, 21 Feb 2013After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.
Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program
Tue, 04 Oct 2011You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Read the official announcement after the break.
