Thank you for viewing this  1967 VW Bus. This bus has spents it's life in central California. It is in great shape although it is not going to win you any pebble beach  first place trophys. It was restored to drive around town or to the beach. Perhaps drive it to work everyday like i did .
Whatever you want to do with it.
The engine runs very good, it starts right up, and you can drive it pretty much anywhere as long as you take your time getting there as it is . The Odometer reads 80,000 and it has a Clean and Clear, California title. Overall this is bus very solid, does have some rust surface rust here and there and a few paint flaws but all the rusted out sections were replaced and re-welded in. There is one exception the inner nose panel which does nothing and no one sees still needs to be bought or made and welded in to be a perfect resto. just a reminder what you see is what you get. The stereo, roof rack, fog lights, slow moving magnetic sign on the back, ECT are all included in the sale of the bus. Note: all windows open by sliding, pop-out or safari style. All seals for the windows, doors and engine tin are all new. They cost me a small fortune and were a pain putting in let me tell you. I saved you the hassles. The sides are all pop-out style, the doors are sliders and front and back are safari's.
Feel the breeze when you cruz down the road!

Mechanical: This bus runs great. The engine runs good, no noise or issues.  It just adjusted the valves and timming. The carb is a new 30 pict and the choke works good. It has a new fuel pump, fuel lines and filter.  It has a new eletronic distrubitor with new cap and rotor and new spark plugs. Overall the engine is in good shape. Compression in the engine is good with a year on a full engine rebuild. rebuilt heads as well then.

The transmission, shifts nice, all 4 gears, are smooth as well reverse. The clutch was replaced last year with a heavy duty one and heavy duty fork and throw-out bearing. It has new red axle boots as well. The transmission feels good, no slop, and stays in the gears, no popping out. The brakes were redone a while back, new rubber lines, and the brakes stop very good, no leaks from the cylinders. Overall, mechanically it is in great shape, drive it anywhere. With that said, be prepared, its a VW they always need adjustments, but they run forever. The tires are newer as well, all match, and have about 80 % tread on them, and are worn evenly. There are two extra rims with new tires and hubcaps. the front end has new ball joints and steering dampner, new shocks all around and recently greased up beam. Heater and defroster for the windshield work great by the way.

Electricial:   The Headlights, taillights, fog lights, wipers and turn signals all work. All the interior lights work as do all the gauges. The gas gauge works but is not perfect. It shows half of what's there in the tank. Might need new sending unit. The Alternator and oil pressure lights both work on the dash and so does the horn. The horn is a german air raid siren and can be switched but is fun.The dimmer switch is broke at the stem but switches high and low. There is a newer JVC cd player and with USB and audio inputs for whatever you want to play through the stereo. Also has a 100 watt amp hidden under the rear seat with a 15" rockford fosgate sub with a Q logic box. Has two 6x9's in the rear and infinity 6" woofers and tweeters in the front doors. sounds sweet with no rattles!

The body on it is in good shape in general. It has a few dings and paint imperfections, but nothing major. The nose is in good shape with the lower outter portion replaced when restored. Drivers door is perfect but the passenger door has some small rust holes on the bottom. Doors close good except passenger door needs a little more umph to close than drivers door. Cargo doors are good and recently repaired as along with the front and rear floors, lower valances on the sides, battery tray, drip rail sections, wheel wells, hatch door, ect. Olny the inner nose valance is left to replace and it was out of stock when i was rebuilding this bus so that's why it's left. Easy fix and does nothing structually.

Interior is restored and used for a few years since replaced but overall usable and decent.  The headliner and door panels are wood panels i made. Overall you can see the general interior condition from the pictures. This bus has front and rear safari wondows installed. All the squre windows on the sides open.  Glass is decent and no cracks and all OEM German serkuit. All doors lock and have all oem keys to the doors.

Get ready to Camino-ize your fourth-generation VW Jetta with this kit

Tue, 05 Aug 2014

Inexpensive, small pickup trucks used to be everywhere in the US, whether they were from Japanese brands like Datsun or Toyota, the truly weird Subaru Brat or even from Europe with the Volkswagen Caddy based on the Golf. These days that market has completely disappeared, but if you're willing to pick up some tools to build your own, there's a company out there bringing the Caddy back as a kit for the Jetta.
Mark Smith knows a thing about building a vehicle at home. He has over two decades in the DIY-car business as a co-founder of Local Motors and the company that became Factory Five Racing. His latest venture is Smyth Performance and already offers a mid-engine, VW-based kit called the G3F. His new product, though, started as a fluke. "I just wanted a shop truck," said Smith to Autoblog. He already had a Ford F-450 but found that he was driving around with the bed empty most of the time. The result was a pickup truck based on the fourth-generation Jetta that he dubbed the Ute.
The kit retails for $3,500 and ships in three, big boxes, and it's designed to be built and painted in a weekend. Buyers get fiberglass exterior panels, a fiberglass rear window surround, sliding rear window, an aluminum reinforced bed with a tubular steel subframe, taillights, a fully functional steel tailgate, and other parts. In the end, you get a vehicle with a six-foot bed and a payload of around 700-750 pounds. The Ute maintains all of the factory suspension, fuel tank and emissions equipment and requires just a few cuts in the body to complete. "We did a modern Caddy," admits Smith.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.

Brazil contemplates safety exemption for VW Kombi as it goes out of production today [w/poll]

Tue, 31 Dec 2013

Brazil: the country of carnivals, indescribable beauty adjacent to abject poverty, Ayrton Senna and old Volkswagen models. Only they're not old - they're new, they're just based on old designs. The original Beetle continued production there long after it had been phased out elsewhere, but the original Kombi van has lasted much longer. That ends today, however, with the iconic VW Microbus ambling out of production on the last day of 2013.
VW kept making the van in Brazil with the original air-cooled 1.2-liter boxer four until 2005, after which the original design was updated with a 1.4-liter water-cooled engine. Today, however, it ultimately falls prey to safety regulations that mandate that all vehicles - no matter how old their design - need to have airbags and ABS, forcing Volkswagen do Brasil to cease production of the Microbus after a 56-year production run. But the latest word is that the Kombi (as it's presently known) could get a stay of execution - or at least a resurrection in short order.
According to reports, the Brazilian government is looking into granting the Type 2 Microbus an exemption from said safety regulations, reasoning that the van was designed long before the advent of airbags and ABS. If the measure goes through, the Kombi Last Edition (pictured above) could prove not to be the last at all. So what do you think, should the Microbus get an exemption from Brazilian safety regulations for nostalgia's sake? Vote in our poll below, then have your say in Comments.
