This auction is for my '58 VW Bus.  It's rusty, but it's a lot of upper rust, the frame & cargo floor are pretty solid.  I had a 1/8" sheet metal floor put in the front, but it's over what was there.  I just wanted a driver, not a show piece.  It's had a lot of areas tacked to make it stiffer but none of the rust has been fixed, just improved.  It's a walk thru, it has the seats, it's got the original '58 36 horse motor that runs like a top, it's got the '58 only engine lid & hand crank apron.  Previous owner said the motor was rebuilt in '74 & then parked. It's been lowered the cheap way, still has all the stock parts & reduction boxes.  Passenger outer door handle does not work but the inner does.  All electrical works, but it is still 6 volt.  New battery, clutch, & brakes.  Still has 3 of the original date crows foot wheels, the other is a '56.  The trans is a big nut unit out of a '65.  My goal is to get into a driving window bus for the fam, so if you've got one hit me up, this one isn't much good for 4 people but you'll be the coolest kid on the block for sure.  It's a '58, so it's got quirks, but I think it's pretty nice for what it is.  Sold as is of course.  It's listed local also so if it sells I'll cancel the auction.  Cash in person only, NO PAYPAL.  Please don't hit the buy it now until you've talked to me & we've got a deal lined up, otherwise I just gotta relist & it costs me $.  I can be reached by email or I can get texts at 256-281-1956.  I'll be glad to take any more pics or post any more info needed.  Thanks!

Volkswagen considering a four-door, four-seat XL1

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

According to a report in Autocar, Volkswagen might have more in mind for the XL1 than mining it for advances to grace the next-generation Golf. Aiming to fight the Honda FCEV due for public consumption next year, we're told VW executives have put a four-door, four-seater version of the XL1 - it could be called XL2 - on the drawing board. The impetus is said to come from the top, with VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piëch intent on staying in the deep end of "super-efficent vehicles."
Autocar suspects the necessary changes could raise the weight of the car from 1,749 pounds to 2,068 pounds, which would make it four pounds less than the 2,072-pound Up! we drove a few years ago. Crucially, however, the mag thinks the extra capacity wouldn't change the two-seater's 310-mile-per-gallon rating, with tech tweaks and the aerodynamic benefit of a longer car offsetting the weight. Speculation is that the back seats would be staggered like the fronts in order to maintain the XL1's overall profile.
We recently heard about another XL1 variant that's gone off the radar entirely, the Ducati-engined XLR that we thought we'd see at the Geneva Motor Show and that was said to be going into production, so this one could go the same way. The biggest hurdle to making such an idea a reality, though, could be the price: the current XL1 costs 110,000 euros ($146,116). If VW really is going to compete with the Honda FCEV and the Toyota FCV - $70,000 in Japan - that might be where it wants to start.

Volkswagen Golf Wagon leaked ahead of official unveiling

Sat, 02 Mar 2013

Wagons ho! These three images of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Wagon have leaked online ahead of the car's official debut, which may very well be at the Geneva Motor Show. Looking over the photos doesn't really bring any surprises - after all, this is a VW Golf with a wagon rear end grafted on, or basically what we expect next Jetta SportWagen will be.
We can only share these three images at this time, but fret not, folks. There's little doubt that all the details and images will be flowing from Volkswagen in short order. In the meantime, click on the images above to view them in high resolution.

YouTube's Super Bowl commercial buzz list dominated by automakers [w/videos]

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

After Sunday's big game, YouTube will be the place to watch every commercial that you missed when you left your seat for an emergency guac refill or, as we say in Cleveland, took the Browns to the Super Bowl. That makes YouTube the nation's water cooler on Monday, and it's got some preliminary stats to share in the lead up to kickoff.
As you know, Super Bowl advertisers, particularly automakers, like to endlessly tease their big budget commercials in the weeks before the game, many times revealing them outright days in advance. Because of this, YouTube can tell us which commercials have been viewed the most so far, and their top five list is all automakers.
Kaley Cuoco appears to have been a good investment for Toyota, as her ad for the RAV4 has garnered the most YouTube views - six million and counting - among Super Bowl commercials so far. Second place goes to Mercedes-Benz, though not its actual Super Bowl commercial, but rather the teaser for it. You know, the one with Kate Upton and the car washing, which is up to 5.6 million views. Third place is Audi's Prom commercial (3.3M views), fourth goes to Volkswagen's slightly controversial Get In, Get Happy ad (3.3M views), and the fifth and final spot is bookended by the teaser video for Kaley Cuoco's commercial (3.2M views). You can watch all five in order below.
