'73 Volkswagen Super Beetle. This is an "A" title car with 35,118 ORIGINAL miles. This car was fully restored from the ground up about 10 years ago and rarely driven.  It was driven to a few shows.. This car gets attention everywhere it goes. Super clean and incredible attention to detail! Lots of polished stainless and billit aluminum throughout. Custom paint and pinstriping. Pinstriping was done by the legendary pin stripe artist Mike Caputo. Beautifully done.  Paint work was professionally done to show quality and is awesome. Body is super straight. All body side trim, head light rings, etc. were replaced with high quality replacements after repaint. All of the glass is in great shape.  Floor pans, heater channels, frame head, strut towers, etc. are original to car and in excellent shape and underside of car was painted during restoration.  Creative Car Craft fiberglass widened fenders and widened stock style bumpers with built in turn signals. Car has 68-72 style tail lights. Engine is a fully rebuilt-stock 1600cc dual port that runs excellent. Starts with ease and runs smooth. Engine was kept stock for reliability and is great on gas.  You can drive this car anywhere. Car still has heater boxes and heat blows well. Monza exhaust. Front end was gone through; as was the entire brake system. Car drives straight and smooth and stops well. The clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing were replaced at time of engine rebuild.  The 4 speed transmission shifts with ease with a Hurst style shifter. Custom interior finished in tweed, new carpet, sculpted door panels and headliner.  New steering wheel and dash pad.  Billit Specialties wheels with Michelin tires all of the way around. Rear tires are wide to fill in the fenders.  Tires have great tread although the fronts are starting to get dry.  Car has a very nice stance and a hot rod look to it. Never fails to draw attention. Pop out 1/4 windows! All fender beading and weatherstripping was replaced. Fender beading was custom made and is a unique color to match paint. Sunroof works great and the mechanism was rebuilt. Less than 500 miles since restoration. Drives excellent.  There was loads of attention to detail put into the restoration of this car and lots of time and money invested.  I am offering this car at a low reserve.  The set reserve price is 3x less than the amount invested into the restoration.  If you live close by I encourage you to come see this car in person.  If you are hesitant at buying a car long distance, have someone look at the car for you.  I am selling the car "as is," no warranty or refund.  Winning bidder is to pay a $500 deposit through Pay Pal within 24 hours of auction.  The remaining balance is to be paid within 7 days via cash or bank to bank wire transfer.  People new to Ebay or with zero feedback please contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel your bid.  Shipping and transport is responsibility of the buyer. I will gladly assist in loading the car.  Please contact me if you have any further questions at (856) 299-1636 EST or through Ebay.  Car is realistically priced to sell!  The car will be listed for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early.  Thanks and good luck bidding.

VW readying CC Shooting Brake?

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

This was bound to happen. Volkswagen's relentless drive for big volume has the brand mining seemingly every niche it can find for additional sales worldwide. And with its CLS Shooting Brake, fellow countryman Mercedes-Benz has already shown that a wagon based off of a "four-door coupe" can look dead sexy and command extra dollars. So it follows that the Volkswagen CC (whose existence is all but directly attributable to the success of the original CLS sedan) will also get a load-lugging variant. That's according to the UK's Autocar, which notes that the five-door will come in the CC's next generation.
According to the report, the next CC will be available in front and all-wheel drive variants with the usual assortment of gas and diesel four-cylinders found in the Wolfsburg empire, with the possibility of a gas plug-in hybrid model, too. The rakish estate will ride atop VW's MQB architecture, a shorter variant of which is also found underneath the new Golf. The scalable chassis is set to spread like kudzu throughout the company's lineup, but the CC probably won't happen until after the launch of the next European-market Passat in 2015.
Will we get it in North America? Hard to say. Volkswagen sells the standard CC saloon here, but not in particularly large numbers, and when the company moved to a North American-specific Passat, it dumped the wagon variant. The traditional VW estate apparently continues to pick up sales momentum abroad, however, making the CC Shooting Brake a seemingly natural fit for buyers who still want the utility of a two-box form but can afford to sacrifice a bit of cargo room in the name of style.

North American production of foreign marques to jump in 2014

Sun, 23 Dec 2012

Wards Auto has released its North American Light Vehicle Production Forecast for 2014, and the report predicts foreign manufacturers will increase production on the continent some 3.9 percent by 2014. If accurate, that should see 123,000 additional cars, trucks and vans produced in North America, swelling the total number of units produced both by domestic and foreign manufacturers to 16.9 million light vehicles from a projected 15.6 million in 2013. Much of the increase can be attributed to the fact that Toyota intends to produce another car at its Blue Springs, MS plant as well as a new Lexus model at its Georgetown, KY facility in a year's time.
Likewise, Volkswagen intends to move production of a currently imported model to its plant in Puebla, Mexico. Daimler, Honda, Nissan and Mazda also plan to build additional models on North American soil for the first time. Around two-thirds of the new North American manufacturing will take place in Mexico, helping the country soak up a full 20 percent of the content's automotive production for the first time. You can head over to the Wards Auto site for the full report.

Get ready to Camino-ize your fourth-generation VW Jetta with this kit

Tue, 05 Aug 2014

Inexpensive, small pickup trucks used to be everywhere in the US, whether they were from Japanese brands like Datsun or Toyota, the truly weird Subaru Brat or even from Europe with the Volkswagen Caddy based on the Golf. These days that market has completely disappeared, but if you're willing to pick up some tools to build your own, there's a company out there bringing the Caddy back as a kit for the Jetta.
Mark Smith knows a thing about building a vehicle at home. He has over two decades in the DIY-car business as a co-founder of Local Motors and the company that became Factory Five Racing. His latest venture is Smyth Performance and already offers a mid-engine, VW-based kit called the G3F. His new product, though, started as a fluke. "I just wanted a shop truck," said Smith to Autoblog. He already had a Ford F-450 but found that he was driving around with the bed empty most of the time. The result was a pickup truck based on the fourth-generation Jetta that he dubbed the Ute.
The kit retails for $3,500 and ships in three, big boxes, and it's designed to be built and painted in a weekend. Buyers get fiberglass exterior panels, a fiberglass rear window surround, sliding rear window, an aluminum reinforced bed with a tubular steel subframe, taillights, a fully functional steel tailgate, and other parts. In the end, you get a vehicle with a six-foot bed and a payload of around 700-750 pounds. The Ute maintains all of the factory suspension, fuel tank and emissions equipment and requires just a few cuts in the body to complete. "We did a modern Caddy," admits Smith.
