Located in: Park City, UT Greetings! I am offering my 2056 Type 4 powered 1977 Standard beetle up for sale. I have not been able to dedicate any time for a few years to this car, and it breaks my heart to watch it sit. I have SIGNIFICANTLY more than the asking price invested in the car, but it is not complete and I would like to give someone the opportunity to finish this project up to their liking and offer it at a great value. The engine alone is worth at least 5-6K. I did an entire body-off restoration of the car, including media blast and professional paint. Every part has been either refurbished, or replaced by high quality restoration parts. The work is 90% done for a complete, excellent street car. Always garage kept.

Engine Specifications: 2056 Type 4 -DTM Cooling Conversion Kit Stock Cyls Bored by Rimco /Flat-Top Pistons Hoffman Automotive Machine rebuilt heads w/ stiff springs 9.5:1 Compression Raby 9500 Cam Mallory Unilite Dist and CDI Ignition Weber 44 IDF with Sync-Link throttle linkage (SUPER trick!) A-1 Exhaust w/ Magnaflow Type 4 Store Breather Box Kit Engine had been through break-in and run about 500 miles. It is a truly excellent street engine with gobs of torque all through the RPM range to 5500 redline. Will go up mountain passes at 80mph all day long without overheating.

Things that need to be addressed / disclosure: Engie leaks small amount of oil between case halves half-dollar sized spot after sitting for multiple days Alternator not charging needs diagnosis and possible replacement/rebuild Interior Carpet install Needs new Side-View and Rear-View Mirrors w/paint touch-up (installed EMPI mirrors and they were terrible) Need to put fasteners in running board to fender connections Needs new speedo cables Need to install windshield washer bottle (have parts) Need to have stock width rear fenders painted (had to run big custom wheel spacers with CCC +3 fenders and I didnt like that, however wheel spacers come with sale for someone who wants to go that route) I had my body shop quote me $100 for the pair to do this, so not a big deal.

I personally installed every modification and can tell you anything you want to know about this vehicle and more. Car is great to drive and can do so currently, so schedule a test drive and see how gooood Type 4 power is!

VW Beetle R is one mean bug
Wed, 02 Oct 2013Volkswagen's R lineup currently consists of the Golf R in North America, and the too-cool-for-school Scirocco R in Europe. It hasn't exactly been a secret as to which VW would next get the R treatment; the German manufacturer reportedly confirmed that a hotter Beetle would be coming to the US. That announcement, in August 2011, was followed up by a production-ready Beetle R Concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
After some wait, we're finally seeing spy shots of the Beetle R in Germany. The mule shown in the images here is wearing the R-Line bodykit, which adds sportier front and rear fascias, side skirts, dual exhausts and a not-so-subtle spoiler. Topped off with Volkswagen's traditional, five-spoke R wheels, we'd be just fine with the Beetle R coming to market as is.
Our spy photographer, though, seems to think that the production R will get even sportier sheetmetal, which we take to mean the more assertive look shown on the Frankfurt show car. Larger intakes on the front fascia, a bigger rear spoiler and vertical vents on the rear bumper could all be upcoming. Whether a production model will include the concept's polished wheels (R cars haven't traditionally embraced that look), vented hood and the quad-tipped exhausts remains to be seen.
VW Golf GTI wrung out by Chris Harris
Thu, 27 Jun 2013Enthusiasts like nothing more than to crucify modern interpretations of their favorite performance models for failing to live up to some imagined ethos. Even the Volkswagen GTI has suffered its fair share of slings and arrows for growing in size and curb weight. Chris Harris recently spent some time with the all-new MK VII GTI to find out if growing up means giving up on what makes the machine so special.
Judging by his comments, Harris certainly doesn't think so. Yes, the new GTI is considerably more comfortable than its predecessors, but that's hardly a bad thing. The multitude of driving modes actually seem to add depth to the car rather than simply try to force one tool to do many jobs, and Harris even finds the machine's electronic power steering tolerable. As a result, Harris goes so far as to call the Volkswagen GTI "one of the best cars to actually own." How's that for high praise? You can watch the video for yourself by scrolling below.
VW Up Buggy may be headed to showrooms
Tue, 02 Jul 2013Volkswagen showed six conceptual takes on its Up at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, one of those being the Up Buggy. Although few will probably remember it, VW has not forgotten it, applying for a patent for the Meyers Manx revival roadster way back in March 2012 and being approved in June of this year, according to a report in Autocar. That will give the automaker a 14-year lock on the design while it decides whether to move forward with a reboot of its past.
A patent doesn't mean the Up Buggy will ever move beyond the sheet-of-paper stage, but Autocar says VW is studying the market to see if a production version is feasible. We can't see North America ever getting it, but even so, we wouldn't complain if they made it - especially if they put an exposed engine in back that was set off by 18-inch-long twin tailpipes jutting straight up into the air. However, for a company that aims to be the world's number-one automaker by 2018, a niche vehicle for its mass-market brand would be a surprising use of resources.
