It has normal wear and tear that you would find on a car that is driven every day and is 53 years old. The carpet is worn. There is a large dent in the right rear fender. One hub cap is missing. The steering wheel has many cracks. The radio doesn't work. The aux heater is not hooked up. The seat coverings are cracked and the driver and passenger seats have big holes where the covering is missing all together. The headliner is discolored. Some of the fabric wall covering is torn and water damaged because the car has leaky seals. Also there are dents in the passenger side door from where the previous owner hit it with her other car's door every day while it was parked in the garage. Two chips in windshield."

This fantastic car is an original 1960 Volkswagen Beetle!  This is NOT a show car!  This vehicle is an every day driver with plenty of dents and dings and character.  It's one of the coolest cars ever!  The car was originally purchased in Helena, Montana in 1960 and has spent the rest of it's life in the Rocky Mountains of Butte, Montana.  I am the fourth owner of this 53 year old car and I drive it every day in the summer. Like me, she hates cold weather and pretty much refuses to go out in it! This car would be perfect for someone in a warm climate.  The car is in original condition except for the tail lights, which were upgraded to include turn signals.  Also, the man who owned the car before me installed a driver's seat belt.  He intended for his teenage daughter to own the vehicle and he wanted to keep her safe, but she couldn't master driving a manual transmission.  This is why the car only has one seat belt (lap belt only).  I now have two small children and I don't feel like it's right for them to ride in a car with no seat belts.  Even if it is really FUN and they LOVE it!!  So it's time for this car to find a new home with someone who will love her as much as I do!

This vehicle is in original condition and has NOT been restored.  It has normal wear and tear that you would find on a car that is driven every day and is 53 years old.  The carpet is worn and torn in some places.  There is a large dent in the right rear fender (see photo).  One of the hub caps is missing.  I have tried and tried to find another matching hub cap, but these are some kind of rare aftermarket VW SS hubcaps (see photo).  They are virtually impossible to replace, so you would do well to just buy a set of four new hubcaps.  Besides that, they are pretty rusty. The steering wheel has many cracks.  The radio doesn't work, but is a super cool pull-out portable radio.  It was designed to be taken out of the dash so you could bring your tunes to the beach or on a picnic.  It has its own special key, that you insert into the radio to release it.  You can see in the photo the hole where you would insert the key.  There is an auxiliary gas heater for extra warmth in the winter.  The heater is not hooked up as I only drive the car in nice weather.  The seat coverings are cracked and the driver and passenger seats have big holes where the covering is missing all together.  In the pictures I have one seat cover on the drivers side and a towel on the passenger side.  Sorry.  I meant to remove those before I took the photos.  I can add a photo of the seats if you want to see it.  The back seat has no holes or tears.  Just the front ones. The headliner is discolored.  Some of the fabric wall covering is torn and water damaged because the car has leaky seals.  Also there are dents in the passenger side door from where the previous owner hit it with her other car's door every day while it was parked in the garage (door dings).  These are evident in the pictures.  There are two chips in windshield.  Also, I replaced the original windshield wipers with new ones because I was going to drive to Helena one day and it looked like it was going to rain.  The original wipers are in the glove box.  The rubber was too old and hard to do any actual wiping, but I kept them thinking I could just replace the rubber.  The car has its original VW Luggage Rack.  These are really hard to find, too.  The car is in good running condition and is driven every day.  The vehicle's Owners Manual, Accessories Catalog, Service Booklet for Preventive Maintenance, and Distributors and Dealers in Canada, USA and Mexico Catalog are included.

Includes:  Original VW Luggage Rack, New Battery, New Tires, Aux Gas Heater (not hooked up), Original Owners Manual, Original Accessories Catalog, Original Owners Manual for Le Chaperon Portabe Car Radio, Spare Tire, Aftermarket VW SS Hubcaps

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  Also, if you would like to see any other photos, please ask and I will post them ASAP.

Buyer is responsible for pick up of the vehicle.  I accept PayPal or Cashiers Check.  Immediate payment or arrangement for payment by cashiers check is expected for Buy it Now; otherwise payment is expected within three days of the end of auction.

Thank you for looking at this awesome car!

VW going turbo-only in 3 to 4 years

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

This really was a matter of when, rather than if. Volkswagen will apparently be the first manufacturer to phase out naturally aspirated engines in favor of turbocharging its full slate. VW is kind of responsible for ushering in this push towards small-displacement, turbocharged engines that's taken the industry by storm. When it dropped its direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbo in the 2005 GTI it demonstrated that strapping an iron long to an engine can enhance the powertrain as a whole. VW made fuel economy gains, while also giving a linear, non-laggy turbo experience that it has replicated, model-after-model, to this day.
Speaking with The Detroit News, Volkswagen's executive Vice President of Group Quality, Marc Trahan, told the paper that, "We only have one normally aspirated gas engine, and when we go to the next generation vehicle that it's in, it will be replaced. So three, four years maximum."
Really, it's hard to get teary-eyed about either of these engines going away. VW has access to smaller powerplants that could easily match the performance of the 2.5 five-cylinder and the 3.6 V6, while gobbling up less fuel and providing a better driving experience. What we are sad about is that a similar statement about the extinction of NA engines came from the Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Ford, Joe Bakaj. We'd certainly get teary-eyed over a world without Ford's excellent 5.0-liter V8.

Volkswagen offers Beetle Classic, priced from $20,195*

Tue, 23 Sep 2014

The current Volkswagen Beetle already tries to be a fairly retro-looking ride by cribbing styling elements from the iconic original. However, for the new, limited-edition Classic model, VW is hopping into the time machine to grab even more vintage cues. The company is even cutting the price, perhaps in hopes of turning around flagging sales this year. You don't need to wait long for any of these upgrades either because the automaker says that the Classic goes on sale this week for $20,195, *excluding the $820 destination charge. That's $100 less than a bone-stock Beetle.
Starting as a standard Beetle with VW's 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, the Classic edition comes with a six-speed automatic and then adds some retro flair. It includes new vintage-look 17-inch wheels with simulated dog dish polished hubcaps over black spokes. It also comes with a rear spoiler, and the automaker is offering the model in Pure White, Black Uni, and Reflex Silver.
The interior mixes in a few more classic touches but includes modern amenities like a standard navigation system, satellite radio and multifunction steering wheel. However, the seats are finished in a two-tone design combining light brown leatherette on the sides and checked cloth centers, plus lumbar support for the driver's side. The shift knob and handbrake also get wrapped in leather.

Last VW bus ever made arrives at final destination

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

A Brazilian politician tried to save it, unsuccessfully, so the final Last Edition Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi was produced on December 20, 2013 and now resides in a vintage museum at Volkswagen's Commercial Vehicles HQ in Hanover, Germany.
The Volkswagen Microbus was built for 56 years, starting in September 1957. Brazil was the last country still assembling it, but new safety regulations in the country requiring airbags and ABS on all cars spelled the end. When that politician introduced a bill that would pardon only the 'Bus from a death sentence, it couldn't garner the required number of votes for passage. The South American country takes the Kombi production title, though, with 1.5 million of the 3.5 million total made in the home of Copacabana beach and the girl from Ipanema.
The VW Bus is dead. Now perhaps we can turn our attentions to the still-not-totally-settled matter of the Bulli...
