1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle on 2040-cars
Williamsburg, Virginia, United States
74 VW SUPER BEETLE Very original and in running and driving condition. It will still need some TLC to be 100%, but it is in much better condition than most examples out there. -Starts right up, drives and shifts through all gears with no grinds or shifter pop outs. It does have some minor oil leaking, cooling fan noise, and valves a bit noisy. Probably due for adjustment. Absolutely no smoke whatsoever, even under full throttle. -Clean and clear title, car has always been here in Southeastern Virginia -Mileage unknown, but based on wear it is not excessive -No previous collision damage evident, appears to have only one respray in its original orange -Doors open and close perfect, nice gaps -Excellent electricals, all in working order -Typical VW Bug rust areas, but nothing too bad - the floorboards have already been done. The front trunk pan patched. -Chassis in very nice shape -Many new parts including Mahle German Exhaust, brakes, brake hoses, Rear KYB shocks, Castrol 20w50 oil change, fuel pump, ignition switch, heater hose block off kit for improved cooling (I have the hoses to return back if desired)new battery, starter -Front struts needing replacement and front wheel bearings were next on my to-do list. -Front hood just recently wont open, latch assembly -Steering and brakes feel great -Functioning AM FM Cassette -Overall a great Super with lots of potential. I have just decided to look for a Bus. Please feel free to ask any questions.
On Apr-07-14 at 07:17:36 PDT, seller added the following information:**To address a few questions from bidders: Please note - I do suggest trailering/shipping this vehicle if traveling long distance for safety. This due to the noisy front wheel bearing and front struts, as I mentioned in the description. Again,It runs shifts brakes and drives through all gears and the clutch is functioning properly. I will be happy to send a video (running and driving) or additional pics of the vehicle upon request through my iphone. Just email a question through Ebay and I will respond promptly. Thanks and happy bidding!! |

European car sales up 8% in February
Sat, 22 Mar 2014Three weeks ago an analyst increased projections for European car sales this year, expecting them to climb three percent compared to last year instead of 2.7 percent. That number is a postive sign after years of hard times but it turns out February was especially good, overall European sales climbing eight percent on a wave of southern European recovery and discounts - and this comes after five months of gains including January's 7.2-percent jump over the year before.
The only country of Europe's five largest markets to post a decline was France, just as it did in January, Germany, the UK and Italy posting solid double-digit numbers, Spain rocking the charts with an 18-percent increase because of a government program to encourage trade-ins.
The only brand to miss the wave was Volkswagen, dropping 0.8 percent as it watched the double-digit growth at sister brands Audi, Seat and Skoda lift the Volkswagen Group sales up by seven-percent. Peugeot overcame flat sales at Citroën to improve the group by 3.5 percent, BMW and the Mercedes-Benz/Smart combo rose by four percent, the Fiat group jumped 5.8 percent, Ford was up 11 percent, the Renault Group 11.5 percent, General Motors 12 percent and the Toyota clan by 14 percent.
US-spec 2015 Volkswagen Golf and GTI to finally debut in New York
Tue, 12 Mar 2013The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf is hardly new to us. In fact, we've already driven it. And elsewhere in the world, the new Golf is already winning awards. Even so, we still have yet to see the US-spec version of the car, though that won't be the case much longer. As part of the New York Auto Show festivities later this month, Volkswagen will finally show off the 2015 Golf models destined for our shores.
Three different versions of the Golf will debut under the lights of New York City's Javits Center: the turbocharged TSI, oil-sipping TDI and hotter GTI. The first model in that list uses Volkswagen's new 1.8-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, replacing the outgoing 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline five-cylinder. The latter two models use familiar engines: the 2.0-liter TDI diesel and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, respectively.
Even though the new Golf officially debuts later this month, it won't go on sale in the US until the first quarter of 2014. We'll be waiting patiently.
VW going turbo-only in 3 to 4 years
Wed, 18 Sep 2013This really was a matter of when, rather than if. Volkswagen will apparently be the first manufacturer to phase out naturally aspirated engines in favor of turbocharging its full slate. VW is kind of responsible for ushering in this push towards small-displacement, turbocharged engines that's taken the industry by storm. When it dropped its direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbo in the 2005 GTI it demonstrated that strapping an iron long to an engine can enhance the powertrain as a whole. VW made fuel economy gains, while also giving a linear, non-laggy turbo experience that it has replicated, model-after-model, to this day.
Speaking with The Detroit News, Volkswagen's executive Vice President of Group Quality, Marc Trahan, told the paper that, "We only have one normally aspirated gas engine, and when we go to the next generation vehicle that it's in, it will be replaced. So three, four years maximum."
Really, it's hard to get teary-eyed about either of these engines going away. VW has access to smaller powerplants that could easily match the performance of the 2.5 five-cylinder and the 3.6 V6, while gobbling up less fuel and providing a better driving experience. What we are sad about is that a similar statement about the extinction of NA engines came from the Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Ford, Joe Bakaj. We'd certainly get teary-eyed over a world without Ford's excellent 5.0-liter V8.
