Up for sale is an awesome little 1968 Beetle. This was originally a California car and is in great shape (70%) with no rust, some small dings, and a couple spots where the paint is rubbed off. This car will need to be painted and some touch up work done if you are looking for a show car, however, we have used this as a play car and it is great for it. This was originally a hard-top car and based on the work I would guess that sometime in the mid to late 70's the hard-top was removed. Everything was smoothed out and fiber-glassed and appears to follow the body lines flawlessly. We were looking to eventually send this car in for paint, a 4 inch drop, disk brakes, and some other little custom work due to the fact that it has already had some major custom work done (the removal of the roof/top that is). It is a 4-speed manual and the transmission is in good shape. Shifts smoothly and drives like a champ with the exception of the carburetor needs to be readjusted as it will sometimes idle down to the point where it shuts off only to restart with a firm foot on the gas and a turn of the key. As with a lot of cars there is some bad along with all the good. The carpet was glued in (if you are familiar with resto work then you know that that adds about 6 to 7 hours worth of labor to get it out and then remove all the glue resin), the few small dings it has in it (mainly the front fenders an a couple on the "trunk"/"hood"), speedometer doesn't work but we use it as a toy to go to the beach/lake during the summer and things like that so never really was a concern to us, and the rubbed of paint and few bubbles in the paint that can be seen below the license plate (none of which have rust under them). No radio or A/C (what good is A/C when you don't have a top) and no windshield wipers because hey, with no top you won't be getting caught in the rain (ok I guess that should say you won't get caught in the rain often). Very little bad with this car when you consider the lack of rust, the fact that the car is in good reliable running condition, and the interior is in good shape. Please contact me either via email or via txt at 325-261-2588 with any questions you may have or to request additional photos. SIDE NOTE: This vehicle does have a clear TN title...which I lost and am applying for a new title Friday morning. Titles in TN usually take about 14 business days to arrive in the mail after applied for. When title arrives I will immediately overnight within the U.S. and for those buyers outside the U.S. I can Priority Mail it out or send with the vehicle should it take that long to ship. I know this is an inconvenience for some and for that I am sorry.

Volkswagen shows off performance-ish Passat concept

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

As part of its 2013 Detroit Auto Show debut package, Volkswagen has rolled out a sportier version of the Passat sedan, though it's strictly conceptual for now. A small dose of go-fast visuals have been added to the handsome Volkswagen, including 19-inch wheels, carbon-capped mirrors, an advanced front lighting system, LED taillamps and dual exhaust. Some carbon bits and upgraded leather are found inside the cabin, as well.
But the real performance chops come in the form of a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 250 horsepower to the Passat's front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. That's a good boost in power over the 170 hp of the base 2.5-liter inline-five, but not quite as potent as the 3.6-liter VR6. A lowered sport suspension and revised electronic steering are also on hand, making things slightly more involving out on the road... we assume.
It's not quite the performance concept we were hoping for, but a more enthusiastic Passat isn't necessarily a bad thing. Scroll down for the press release.

Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?

Thu, 26 Jul 2012

Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.

Former Porsche CEO Wiedeking indicted over VW takeover bid

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

Do you recall the failed efforts by Porsche to take over Volkswagen? According to a Bloomberg report, former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above) and ex-CFO Holger Haerter have finally been charged with market manipulation over the exercising of options as part of the German sportscar manufacturer's ill-fated attempt to take over the much larger VW. That failed bid eventually resulted in the reverse coming true - VW swallowing Porsche.
The charges leveled by Stuttgart prosecutors come after a three-year investigation centered around allegations that Porsche execs made a concerted effort to increase the company's share in VW to 75 percent in preparation for a hostile takeover. Porsche had previously told its investors on at least five occasions that it had no intention to buy VW.
Portions of the investigation have subsided, according to prosecutors, citing an inability to prove certain improprieties with a "necessary degree of certainty." The number of charges is down to 5 from a previous 14 counts regarding "information-based market manipulation."
