You are bidding on a 1965 VOLKSWAGEN  * SEDAN , non-operational / registered.  This car is being offered as a builder. The car has been sitting for awhile. Overall condition of body is FAIR.  This car comes with stock low back seats.  Rear seat cushions are there. This vehicle is 99 % complete (missing headlights, but might be buried somewhere, will up-date ad IF found).  As stated, body appears to be in fair condition with the exception of the front clip (where spare tire goes). . Someone has tried to hammered it back as close to original as possible, but...hey, it's a hammer! The right way would be to replace the old metal with new metal.  Both front fenders are new (one can be seen in the picture, taken with the right side passenger door open, next to the running board) - it's black). The rear fenders appear to be fair/good, quarter panels are good, and rear clip show no sign of damage. Stock deck lid fair/good condition, the hood is junk...might have another, will up-date ad if I find one. Has good gas tank, headliner is junk. All the glass is original (has pop-out windows).  Both front & rear bumpers in fair condition. Both doors, in good working condition, windows roll up & down with little ease. There is very little rust on this car, The pan has MAJOR rust issues, but this vehicle comes with new pans (L&R), that will need to be installed.  Steering wheel has cracks, horn ring good, dashboard good, wiring appears to be 'OK' (notice the 12 volt flasher), there is no radio. If you look close, you can see the keys hanging from the glove box. The tires are not in good condition (fair rollers), but will need replacement if you plan to rebuild and drive this vehicle.  Running condition UNKNOWN....comes with a 1500 cc motor. This mystery motor appears to be complete, and turns by hand, and that's about it....it's a real beauty! Oh, the engine compartment has 'webber holes' (see pictures)  I can't guarantee it, but I'm sure we have all the parts that go with this car, including the headlights...I will continue to look and up-date the ad if I locate them. As it stands now, what is being shown in the pictures is what you are bidding on.   Note: I'm not sure of exact mileage, so I listed as 100.000.  Not sure where the license plates are, but we have them....please see all pictures. Located in Salinas, California and is being sold AS-IS and WHERE-IS. As I stated, this vehicle is being offered as a builder, there's no good reason this car can't be up and running with a little effort. Comes with a clear pink slip..

Please note: I'm selling this car for a friend. If you have any questions or need additional pictures please email me and I will do my best to answer them (please, don't wait until the last day to ask, this car is a few miles from my home). The successful bidder will need to move the vehicle with-in one week (7 days) after purchase. Additional time may be granted, however buyer will need to contact me for approval.  I'm not in a position to actually move the vehicle, however I can assist in making
arrangements. Thank you and good luck bidding!

Volkswagen's De Silva says next Scirocco will be 'completely different'

Tue, 02 Apr 2013

From our perspective, the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco is a handsome (if squat) little thing. Yet design-wise, it's always struck us as uncomfortably close to the Golf three-door hatchback with which it shares its basic underpinnings. That aesthetic kinship may be part of the reason why Volkswagen has steadfastly refused to import the Scirocco to North America, seeing as how the Golf doesn't regularly set the company's sales charts alight, and it's less expensive.
But that visual similarity might be about to change, says Walter De Silva, who recently told Australia's Car Advice that, "It must be completely different... we don't want to repeat the bodystyle of the Scirocco, we want to change that." Further, the Volkswagen Group's design boss says that the next-generation car isn't terribly far along in development yet - "at the moment, it's only a studio [project]... it's not defined." It's probably just as well, as the new seventh-generation Golf arguably borrows some of its design from the current Scirocco anyway.
So we should expect a much bolder, more differentiated design, right? Well, yes, no and maybe. Back in September, De Silva himself was quoted as saying that the era of flamboyant styling has passed, and that future VW designs will be simpler to better reflect the times and preserve resale value. So... how different could it be?

Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe is a green fun-machine we want to drive

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

Think back to January's Detroit Auto Show. Those of you that are fans of the Volkswagen brand, impressed with green technology or simply fall into the "diesel geek" category, will almost certainly remember VW's CrossBlue concept with its diesel/electric hybrid powertrain, seating for seven, and somewhat awkward crossover styling. It was an impressive piece of future tech, to be sure, though it left something to be desired in the, well, desirability department.
Here in Shanghai, VW has brought along a CrossBlue Coupe concept that would seem to include most of the goodness of the original, but flavored with more sport and style this time around.
The CrossBlue Coupe makes use of the same electric drive components as the larger three-row concept: two electric motors (front and rear) powered by a 9.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. However, where the original concept made use of a TDI four-cylinder, the Coupe substitutes a 295-horsepower, direct-injection, gasoline-burning V6.

BMW, Ferrari, VW cars use tungsten mined by terrorists

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bloomberg Markets is reporting that BMW, Volkswagen and Ferrari have been using tungsten ore sourced from Columbia's FARC rebel terrorists. The extensive story focuses on Columbia's illegal mining trade and calls into question the provenance of the rare ore that is used not only in crankshaft parts production, but is also found in the world's computing and telecommunications industry for use in screens.
The ore is mined by the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army), and exported to Pennsylvania, where it is refined. The refined ore is then sent over to Austria, where a company called Plansee turns it into a finished product. Now, it's important to note that we aren't talking about the world's supply of tungsten here. In 2012, Plansee's American refinery purchased 93.2 metric tons of tungsten, valued at $1.8 million. That's peanuts, with the entire Colombian tungsten mining industry producing just one percent of the world's supplies.
That doesn't make indirectly supporting FARC any more acceptable, though. BMW, VW and Ferrari are all committed to not accepting mineral supplies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also in the grips of a guerrilla insurrection funded, in part, by illegal mining. The same commitment would figure to extend to Colombian mining, but as BMW points out, it's difficult for a multi-national manufacturer to know where every item in its supply chain comes from. A company spokesperson says as much, telling Bloomberg, "These few grams out of the billions of tons of raw materials passing through the BMW supply chain are of no practical relevance."
