This is a no-reserve auction for a 1976 Triumph TR6 with 73,159 original miles. It was made in June 1976, just a month before the end of TR6 production. It was sold new in February 1977. It is Inca yellow (#94) with a black (#11) interior. I believe Inca was a last-year-only color. Of it's 37 years, I have owned it 18. Dealer-supplied options are the rare, removeable factory steel hardtop, stainless luggage rack, and AM/FM/8-track tape player. This is a very original street car, not a show car, and hasn't had any overall restoration. To keep from saying 'original' over and over, I will list the ways that I know the car differs from when sold new.

Cosmetically.  There has been no bodywork, or accidents, that I am aware of. The first owner did repaint the flat black on the tail of the car. He didn't do a perfect job, but it has held up well. I painted the stock steel wheels black. I had the headliner replaced in the hardtop many years ago. The paint on the hardtop is not quite as nice as on the body (dealers got these tops in primer and painted them locally when ordered with a car). This paint on the top is very finely alligatored, but you have to be right on top of it to see it. The paint on the rest of the car is very good, with a couple of small exceptions. There is a small area of rust at the headlight trim on the driver's side. There are 2 small bubbles near the tail light, also on the driver's side. And in the center of the hardtop's leading edge there are a few chips to the paint. There are closeup photos of these 3 spots. These small flaws have remained the same since I've had the car. There is no rust in the frame, floor pans, rocker panels, or door jambs. The rusty color around rubber trim in the door jambs is sloppy factory adhesive work that has turned brown with age. I believe the paint corrosion under the pedals is from an old brake or clutch fluid leak. The dash wood has some finish checking, but looks good overall. Instruments work well. Carpets are very nice, except for some damage under your gas-pedal heel. Included are a set of rubber mats, so this area is covered. Door panels and seats are in fine shape, check the pictures. The original Triplex glass is very good, but the windshield does have some small pits.

Mechanically. The car has had whatever maintenance was required over the years and, as far as I know, has been driven every summer (2,000 miles per year average). When I first got the car I had the no-lead cylinder head conversion done, with new valves, guides, and tappets. Also at that time a spin-on oil filter adapter was installed, as well as an external oil line up to the head. Stiffer rear springs were also installed to reduce 'squat'. At around 66K, there was a new clutch and rear main seal. At about 68K, a new Falcon stainless exhaust system. At around 70K, a new Interstate battery and a set of Michelin P205/75R15 radials. These are not high-speed tires, but even a soccer-mom Michelin of today is a better tire than a 1960's redline tire. They are the same diameter as the redlines, so there's no speedometer error. Recent work includes a radiator leak repair and repaint, coolant hoses, heater valve, anti run-on valve, oil, oil filter, air filters, and plugs. It doesn't look like the spare wheel has ever been on the car. There's an old, worn redline on it that's definately just for emergencies. Still have the jack, crank, and lug wrench.

Some details. It's unknown if the 8-track player works. There are no speakers in the car. I prefer to hear the engine. You can have 'The Beatles Let It Be' tape that I keep in the player for display. There's no soft top included. MIce ate the original top in storage, but it was pretty faded anyway. The complete convertible top frame and hardware are included, as well as a nice black bonnet cover. Extra stuff going with the car are the original trim rings, hub covers, and rear springs, carb adjust tool and synchronizer, padded fender cover, nice Bentley Workshop Manual, and a couple of oil filters. As shown in the pictures. If I were keeping the car, I would next consider a set of modern suspension bushings, front and rear, which other owners say are an improvement over the originals. Also, I just noticed today that the fast speed on the wipers is not working. The very slow speed does work. I don't know if this is a switch or motor issue, but I'll leave it for the new owner to sort out. Or don't drive in the rain.

I have a clear New Jersey title in hand. The car is advertised in other media. If a bidder, or their representative, wants to look over the car in person, please let me know and we'll set a time. The car is located near Lambertville, NJ 08530. That's about 1 1/2 hours west of New York City and 1 hour north of Philadelphia. I'm not going to offer to make any shipping arrangements or give estimates, but will be happy to meet with the buyer or a shipper to load it up after cleared payment has been made. A Paypal deposit of $1000 is due within 48 hours of auction's end. The balance will be by Cashier's Check within a week of auction's end. The title and car will only be released after payment in full has cleared. This is a 37 year old sportscar, and no warranty is implied. Sorry to be so wordy, but I described the car honestly, as I would want if I was a potential buyer. This is a car that starts right up when I want to use it, and has given lots of driving enjoyment. Thanks for bidding.

Jaguar F Type V6 S vs Triumph Street Triple R in open-air track attack

Sun, 21 Sep 2014

Typically, these track battle videos pair up car against car or, in more disparate circumstances, car versus crossover, as we saw the other day. While the outcome of that battle was quite predictable, what'll happen when an equally fetching (and fast) four-wheeler is put up against one of the icons of the two-wheeled world? Evo just had to find out.
Matching up a Jaguar F-Type V6 S Convertible against a Triumph Street Triple R is at least more of an even fight than the last battle between the Porsche Cayman GTS and Macan Turbo. The Triumph has a 675-cc engine to work with, and is very light. Meanwhile, the Jag has a thumping 380-horsepower, 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 to haul about it's considerably heftier heft. Who will come out on top?
You'll need to watch the full video to find out.
