I am selling our 1975 Triumph Spitfire 1500. This car has been our primary vehicle for the last year. It is super fun to drive. It accelerates nicely, shifts smoothly, and really hugs corners well. These British roadsters are a great fit for Austin. You can drive them almost all year round (minus rainy days...but those don't really happen in Austin anymore) and with the top down it is awesome cruising through the hill country.

A big selling point for these cars is that they are very easy cars to work on. The 1.5L engine is quite simple and there is plenty of access to it. There is also a world of excellent information online, in manuals, and through the Hill Country Triumph club. It is still easy to find replacement parts too.

About our car in particular:
- clear blue Texas title
- 47,550 km on the engine. The engine number is FM31497UE.
- a 4 gear, single rail manual transmission, non-overdrive version
- single zenith-stromberg carburetor
- Crane Cams XR700 electronic ignition
- an aftermarket hidden ignition switch under the dash (prevents theft)
- upgraded John Brown wheels
- rear air shocks with separate valves (helps for balancing the car depending on whether there is normally a passenger or not)
- has a JVC (KR520) stereo added with detachable face. Speakers sit behind each seat.
- almost NO RUST!!!!!
- the frame is strong and true, no sagging at the doors
- the front suspension was lowered slightly for better/safer handling
- the clutch is in good shape
- we just had exhaust work done to fix a leak where the manifold meets the front/down pipe
- recently replaced all of the spark plugs and spark plug wires
- adjusted the valves
- recently replaced the speedometer cable and some radiator hosing
- the fuel filter was replaced a few years ago
- the roof has no tears and the frame and snaps all work perfectly. The back window is not foggy at all.
- we have the detachable hardtop, which we've never once used
- we have a full-size spare that fits in the trunk/boot
- we have an extra set of rims
- we have the original owner's manual
- the car underwent a near total frame off restoration. The bulk of it was completed 10-15 years ago. This was done by a previous owner. However, we have photos of the process as well as receipts for the new parts. The rest has been done over the last few years (also have most of the receipts). For example, the brakes were overhauled less than 4 years ago.
- There are still a couple of things that could use some work. For example, the seats could use a restuffing/reupholstering. They are totally in usable shape, but they are not as soft as they could be. The heater and wipers don't work (which hasn't been an issue in Austin). There is a scratch on the hood from the previous owner. There is a small exhaust leak before the muffler. It would take less than 10 minutes to patch (if you can weld) or $30 at a decent shop. Finally, there is some occasional rear-end noise that started recently from the u-joints wearing down (pending on when a sale happens I might already have fixed this).

With the purchase of this vehicle I will throw in a bunch of extra parts and goodies. I have two large containers which include some of the following:
- Haynes manual
- oil cooler kit
- a winter thermostat
- extra oil filter and oil filter adapter
- bunch of extra hoses, brake lines, cables, etc.
- stone guard covers for the front lamps/headlights
- and plenty more

We really enjoyed owning, driving, and working on this car. It was something of a hobby and a treat. However, we are planning for a kid in the fall/winter and need something with four doors and a better safety rating. So I am trying to sell this before the fall. Contact me if you have any questions or would like further information.

Jaguar F Type V6 S vs Triumph Street Triple R in open-air track attack

Sun, 21 Sep 2014

Typically, these track battle videos pair up car against car or, in more disparate circumstances, car versus crossover, as we saw the other day. While the outcome of that battle was quite predictable, what'll happen when an equally fetching (and fast) four-wheeler is put up against one of the icons of the two-wheeled world? Evo just had to find out.
Matching up a Jaguar F-Type V6 S Convertible against a Triumph Street Triple R is at least more of an even fight than the last battle between the Porsche Cayman GTS and Macan Turbo. The Triumph has a 675-cc engine to work with, and is very light. Meanwhile, the Jag has a thumping 380-horsepower, 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 to haul about it's considerably heftier heft. Who will come out on top?
You'll need to watch the full video to find out.
