East Hampton, New York, United States

This is an excellent little car that drives well, has many safety devices, bluetooth equipped, is smoke free, and is a one-owner bought new from a Toyota dealer in Eastern Long Island. It has been mostly used locally with a few trips to the city. It can be picked-up in East Hampton, NY or shipping arrangements can be made.

This 2012 Toyota Prius C comes is the base-model, like all Prius C models, a version of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive provides power to the front wheels. Under the hood there's a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine, paired with an electric motor system, an advanced planetary gearset, sophisticated controls and a more compact nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Total power for the hybrid system is 99 hp. Just as with other Toyota hybrids, regenerative braking captures some energy, using it to aid efficiency when accelerating or cruising, and it's a 'full hybrid' system--meaning that the Prius C can run for short distances, at low speeds, on electric power only. The Prius C includes an EV Mode, which lets you drive it using only electricity, for about a half mile. Overall, the Prius C isn't sporty--and it doesn't provide a Power mode as in other Prius models--but it's quick enough for any everyday-driving needs, for passing or confident lane changes. Maneuverability is the Prius C's strong suit, and around town and at low speeds it's quite enjoyable to drive. Ride quality is also quite good from the MacPherson strut front suspension and tuned torsion beam rear setup. Thanks to the extensive use of high-strength steel the Prius C is on par with standard subcompacts, at about 2,500 pounds. That also adds to the safety provided by nine standard airbags, electronic stability control and Brake Assist, among other features. As a 5-door hatchback, the Prius C includes seating for five, with split rear seatbacks that can be folded forward to expand cargo capacity. Cargo space is an impressive 17.1 cubic feet. All Prius C models include power windows and locks, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, automatic climate control, a center console with sliding armrest, and a multi-information display with various functions for tracking and improving upon fuel economy.

Details about next-gen Toyota Prius emerge

Tue, 28 Jan 2014

The Toyota Prius is undeniably the king of the hybrid market in the United States, with a 39.4 percent market share in 2013. With the next-generation Prius likely to go on sale in 2015, Toyota is trying to build an even more efficient hybrid to keep its control of the market.
Keeping cost down will be one of the major concerns of the new Prius. The next generation will ride on the new, modular Toyota New Global Architecture platform. The lighter underpinnings will improve efficiency and will reduce production costs by allowing for more shared components among vehicles. Toyota will not reveal how many vehicles will use the new platform. But even with the cheaper platform, price will remain a concern. Toyota is still deciding whether all versions of the next Prius will use lithium-ion batteries or whether some models will stick with the heavier nickel-metal hydride batteries to keep cost down.
Of course, the reason most people buy the Prius is because of its great fuel efficiency. Toyota will aim for at least an 8 percent improvement in fuel economy in the next Prius, which would increase it to 58 miles per gallon city and 52 mpg highway.

Autocar pits McLaren MP4-12C against turbo Toyota GT86

Thu, 29 Aug 2013

The Toyota GT86, in all of its forms, is one of the best-handling cars money can buy, a trait that can put a smile on the faces of all but the most jaded car enthusiasts. But if good handling isn't what they're looking for, then what is? Our first guess would have to be more power, something the 200-horsepower Toyota would benefit from. Autocar tries out that theory by driving two turbocharged GT86s on track, then pitting the more powerful one against the 616-hp McLaren MP4-12C in a track battle.
The first GT86 turbo Autocar's Steve Sutcliffe drives makes around 255 rear-wheel horsepower and a bucket-load more torque than the stock car. That's plenty of power to either have a lot of fun or get into a lot of trouble. But the GT86 that Sutcliffe tails in the McLaren is race-prepped, stripped to the bone and wears slicks to harness a heavy-hitting 335 hp at the wheel. Weighing in at under 2,500 pounds, the Toyota can't overcome the MP4-12C's power-to-weight ratio of 5.3 pounds per horsepower, but it comes pretty close.

Hyundai tops Toyota in annual CarMD Vehicle Health Index

Fri, 06 Dec 2013

CarMD has released its third annual Vehicle Health Index, which for the 2013 tracked the frequency and cost of repairs for "check engine" problems of 119-million vehicles built between the 2003 and 2013 model years. For the first two years of the index, Toyota ranked at the top of the list, but this year's results see Hyundai moved to number one, pushing Toyota down a spot.
The Korean automaker's rise to the top has been "fueled by its low repair frequency," according to CarMD. Toyota is second to Hyundai in lowest repair frequency, but Toyotas also have the highest average cost of repair. (Interestingly, General Motors vehicles have the lowest average.) Both Toyota's and Hyundai's manufacturer "health" ratings suffered this year, but Toyota took a bigger hit, which also is what helped Hyundai achieve the top ranking.
While Hyundai is the top manufacturer in the index, the 2012 Toyota Camry is the top vehicle. The best-ranking Hyundai was the 2010 Elantra (behind three Nissan models and four Toyotas), which took the number eight spot. Hyundai has six other vehicles in the top 100.
