Extremely solid 1973 FJ 40 with Chevy 350. I bought this 40 last fall from a guy in LA with the intention of restoring it back to all original. The body is nearly perfect. One small rust spot on front (see close-up pic). When I bought it it didn't have a top so I found one that was in well above average shape. It has a few rust spots but as you know good tops are hard to come by. I live in Kansas so needed the protection while storing as well as driving. There will be a bikini top included with purchase. The 350 is strong and produces considerable horsepower. I had it professionally tuned up. Plugs, points, plug wires, rotor cap, new water pump, belts, radiator hoses and oil changed. It runs great! A friend of my mechanic offered $1,800 for it (the motor)but I wasn't ready to start another project. Since buying this Cruiser I have purchased two FJ 55's that I have to give 100% of my attention to and have to sell immediately. This truck is ready to either bring back to stock or keep going with it with the 350. You can't go wrong either way. I'm more of a Toyota purest so you know what I would do...! The pictures attached were taken with no cleaning. I wiped down the inside, one fender and put a bit of new finish polish on it so you can see how it would shine up. If you look closely at the pictures you will see that there isn't a heater. I have a heater that will be included with the truck. I will also throw in a couple floor mats and a nice black fitted carpet for the back. Truck has a California title with transfer paperwork.
Based on what is on eBay as of this posting (5/12/13) this is one of the best values of every FJ 40 posted. It is being offered as "buy now" with a "make offer" option. I will help arrange shipment. If you have any question please feel free to e-mail or text to set up a call. 913-481-1962. I will need a $500.00 PayPal deposit within 24 hours of the purchase and the balance in form of cashiers check within 7 days of close of auction.
Thanks,
Kevin

Edmunds ranks the best used cars for 2013
Sun, 15 Sep 2013When people ask us what car we would recommend for them, it's usually not easy to answer. To make a useful recommendation we must consider which of the numerous vehicle segments fits their needs best, and then choose one of the many vehicles offered in each segment. For some people, new cars don't meet their expectations of value, because they lose so much of it the moment they are purchased and driven off the dealer lot. For them, there's always the used-car market, where great deals can be found, but cars' histories of reliability and maintenance records - and perhaps that Certified Pre-Owned warranty - become ever-important factors playing into purchase choice.
To help out, Edmunds has done us the favor of assembling a list of the best used vehicles money can buy, covering model years 2006-2011, according to what it considers the most important criteria when shopping for used autos: reliability, safety, value and availability. That means unreliable, unsafe, super-expensive or limited-edition models don't appear on the list, but instead cars from each segment that are more likely to satisfy the general population.
There are some real goodies on the list, including but not limited to vehicles such as the capable Honda Fit, the cultish Honda Accord coupe (which can be had with a 240-horsepower V6 and a six-speed manual transmission some years), and the powerful Chevrolet Corvette. While Edmunds' choice of the Volvo C70 for best used convertible baffled us at first (not that it's a bad car), it redeemed itself by stating that the Mazda MX-5 still is an unofficial top choice if you don't require more than two seats.
Impala crashes into Land Cruiser... to hide from a cheetah
Fri, 12 Jul 2013What would you do if a wild animal jumped into your vehicle through an open window during an African safari? What if said animal was an impala being chased by cheetahs? Though the scenario seems unbelievable, that's just what happened to a group of tourists in Kruger National Park in South Africa, and it was all caught on video.
With the tour groups stopped, a motorist with a video camera handy happens to catch the unlikely sight of a herd of impalas (not that kind of Impala) jumping over the tarmac while being followed, quickly of course, by two cheetahs. The feline predators thought they had cornered one impala and were closing in for the kill when it jumped through the open window of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado - South Africa's version of the Lexus GX. Fortunately for the occupants of said vehicle, the cheetahs did not follow.
A short while later, one of the occupants in the Toyota fearlessly opens a door to let the poor animal out. It must have been its lucky day, because the cheetahs didn't take pursuit. Check out the circle life get interrupted by this traffic jam in the video below.
Toyota delves into the history of its Land Cruiser
Fri, 06 Sep 2013One of the longest-produced, most widely distributed vehicles in all of automotive history is also one of its most rugged: the Toyota Land Cruiser. With 60 years of continuous production, 14 different model lines and thousands of variations of the Jeep-like sports utility vehicle, the Land Cruiser became a success worldwide and developed a cult following among enthusiasts here in the US.
We'll be the first to admit that tracing the vehicle's lineage from its humble beginnings as a prototype for Japan's National Police Reserve in 1951 to what it is today isn't an easy task, especially when one considers that the types of Land Cruisers produced traditionally have varied from market to market. For example, the Land Cruiser sold in the US is very different from the US-only 40 series Land Cruiser-inspired FJ Cruiser, which is itself different from the Land Cruiser Prado sold in other world markets.
To cover the Land Cruiser's sixty-plus year history from start to present, someone over at Toyota UK was thoughtful enough to devote a plus-size blog post to it. It's worth a read if you have a spare 10 or 15 minutes - and even if you don't, you can check out our historical gallery above. Enjoy!
