This vehicle has been our daily driver since 2009 and it needs a good home.  It yearns to be a beach cruiser with a surf board attached!  This vehicle is a head turner and every time you stop someone will ask you about YOUR vehicle!  This vehicle has no expressed or implied warrant and purchase is “as-is”.  The vehicle does have minor defects, as detailed above, and is expected after 25 years.  The vehicle is clean title and title in hand.  The vehicle has never been in an accident and it really shows!  We have loved this vehicle, and the owners before has, and that explains why it is a true survivor.  It is time for us to move on from this vehicle and ensure it gets a happy family.  Please contact me with any questions.

This vehicle is available for any person to inspect prior to purchase.  I will make every effort to accommodate serious inquiries to personally inspect the vehicle or have a mechanic inspect the vehicle.  I recommend anyone purchasing the vehicle to take that opportunity as this vehicle is “as-is” with no expressed or implied warranty.  The vehicle is located approximately 100 miles east of San Diego, California.  If serious, I can arrange a common meeting place if it is within a reasonable distance.

I have attempted to take as many photos as I can to properly portray the vehicle in its true condition.  I have taken several video recordings and will attempt to load those on here as well or provide a hyperlink to view the videos.  If you have any specific request for a photograph please contact me and I will get it as soon as I can.  I will accept Paypal, cash, or Cashier’s Check.

The buyer (not the seller) will be responsible for shipping and/or retrieval of the vehicle.  I have never shipped a vehicle so I do not know how this works.  If you are the winning bidder, I require a $1,000 USD nonrefundable deposit within 48 hours of winning the auction.  I will give the buyer five business days after the initial nonrefundable deposit is made to acquire the remaining purchase funds.  If the buyer does not complete the transaction within those five days I reserve the right to cancel the sale of the vehicle and keep the $1,000 USD nonrefundable deposit.  If you are unclear about this contact myself prior to bidding.  I only do this to weed our non-serious bidders who otherwise would bid and possibly change their mind.

I down own a Yakima roof basket for this vehicle that was purchased within the last year.  The Yakima basket does not come with the purchase of the vehicle but we can discuss options if you are interested.  The bars on the roof of the vehicle will stay though.

If I forget anything please don’t hesitate to ask.  Happy bidding!

2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

People, us included, make a big stink about the importance of family sedans. There's no doubt they're critical - they represent a huge slice of the market's annual sales and profits. However, despite accounting for far fewer transactions than the midsize sedan segment, the fullsize sedan is getting attention from manufacturers now that our market's entire lineup of those (slightly) smaller four-doors has turned over in the last two years or so. As most of the fullsize segment's mainstays derive a fair bit of their platform and powertrain technologies from their midsize cousins, these larger four-doors offer the potential for fatter profit margins, too. And with the newly stylish duds found on many of the industry's most successful midsize sedans, it's only right that automakers no longer think about fullsizers as big, squishy, vanilla family haulers with flat seats, vague steering and a thin layer of 'luxury' in the form of faux wood trim.
As manufacturers have again started diving into large sedans feet-first, the cars themselves have become sharper. The interiors are now of a higher quality and loaded with tech, while the exteriors have become further extensions of each manufacturer's design language. There's perhaps no greater example of this than the Chevrolet Impala and Ford Taurus, two models that evolved from subpar offerings into market leaders. This segment-wide transformation happened quite quickly, whether because of coincidental timing or because manufacturers are trying to get more out of their big cars, recognizing they account for a small portion of overall sales (just 3.5 percent of the new-car market in the first half of 2013).
The 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid is one such vehicle. We remarked on the changes to the V6 variant last year, and while we previously had a quick steer of the gas-electric hybrid, we figured the new model was worth a closer week-long look.

Toyota casts off in Ponam-31 motor yacht [w/video]

Sun, 12 Oct 2014

Some Japanese automakers focus purely on cars, while others dabble in all sorts of motorized transportation. Honda, for example, makes everything from motorbikes to jet aircraft. But while Toyota may be known principally for automobiles, it also makes a line of boats. And this is the latest.
The new Toyota Ponam-31 motor yacht is built around an aluminum hull with a flybridge and cockpit rear deck layout, similar to the Carver 32 on which this writer spent his childhood summers. It measures 31 feet overall and is powered by a pair of 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engines derived from the Land Cruiser Prado (known in these parts as the Lexus GX 460) but marinized for nautical application. Toyota has even equipped its new Sports Utility Cruiser with such features as Drive Assist and a Virtual Anchor System.
Toyota expects to sell around 15 units of the Ponam-31 through its network of 49 dealers across Japan, with prices starting at 29,700,000 yen (about $27,500 at today's conversion rates). Scroll down below for a video, along with a press release, meant to show potential customers what's waiting for them.

Scion reveals iM concept ahead of LA debut

Wed, 12 Nov 2014

After dropping a teaser image on us a few weeks ago, Scion has revealed in full the new iM Concept it's bringing to the Los Angeles Auto Show next week. As expected, the concept is clearly a rebadged version of the Euro-market Toyota Auris, only with some "European Racing Circuit Styling" upgrades to make it look more aggressive.
Along with the Scion logos, the five-door hatch is treated to a deeper air dam flanked by angular vents with stacked fog lamps, beefed-up wheel arches linked by widened side sills and filled with 19-inch, anthracite-finish alloys on low-profile rubber. Vented brake discs and four-piston calipers join an adjustable suspension as show-worthy equipment upgrades.
The sporty treatment continues around back with a similarly aggressive rear bumper and roof spoiler. Even the wing mirrors are replaced with narrower units. Little wonder it's all done up in a shade Scion calls "incrediblue" that looks rather similar to what sister-brand Lexus would put on one of its F-branded performance models - or for that matter what corporate ally Subaru would put on an STI hot hatches like the WRX.
