In very good condition for its age and miles.  Body is straight, no accidents.  Recent paint is in great shape.  Engine and transmission replaced with rebuilds in 2011 @ 280K miles, so 14K on the rebuilds.  Interior is very clean with no obvious tears or damage.  NADA lists these rigs between $5000 and $19,000 retail.  I would put this one square in the middle.  See the link below for description of NADA value criteria and I think you'll agree, this one is a bargain at my "buy it now" price.

All power windows working, including sunroof.  While the CD and tape deck don't work, the radio works fine.  AC blows cold.  Heater blows hot.  Defrost works well.  All new Goodyear Wrangler radials all-round, including the spare which is on matching aluminum rims.  Brakes serviced in June .  Upper and lower radiator hoses replaced in July.  Had an O2 sensor blow on manifold, and repaired by Great Bridge Brake and Muffler.  There is a small bit of blow by where they were unable to reach with weld, but is minor, barely noticeable and doesn't affect performance.  VA State inspection recently performed at Checkered Flag Toyota and good thru Jul/15.  There were no "recommends" after the inspection. At present, it is my daily commuter and while I enjoy driving her, I need to replace it with something with better fuel economy.

Yes, I will consider trades...if it is as reliable and of equivalent value as my FJ80.  My first preference would be a pickup (1/2 ton, 2WD preferred), but will also consider a sedan.  If you are interested in a trade, send pics/description to ajheinrich59@gmail.com

The successful bidder will be responsible for arranging shipping and costs thereof.  It will not ship until the money, in full, has been received.  I will hold the vehicle for you with a deposit equal to at least 10% of the winning bid; however, the remainder must be received within 30 days, or you forfeit the deposit and the vehicle goes back on the market.

Jay Leno goes offroading with the legendary Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

Jay Leno takes a step outside of his cavernous garage for this latest video for a jaunt into the desert to get a little dirty. He meets up with off-road racing legend Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart, who has multiple Baja 500 and 1000 wins in his motorsports career, to play with a Toyota Tundra in the sand.
Unfortunately, Leno doesn't get to interview Stewart too deeply about his long history in racing, but Ironman does talk a little bit about reading the trail while speeding through the desert. In lieu of a great conversation, there is a ton of high-quality footage of the Toyota bounding through the desert.
This clip feels more like a marketing effort than the usual output from Jay Leno's Garage, but it's still great to see Stewart behind the wheel sliding a truck, just like old times. The two of them even take the truck on a somewhat humorous journey at the end of the video.

Toyota recalling FJ Cruiser due to excessively bright headlights

Sun, 05 May 2013

Now, hold on. This recall isn't quite as serious as it sounds. Yes, Toyota is recalling 11,489 FJ Cruiser models from the 2007 to 2013 model years, and yes, it's because the vehicles, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states, "fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, 'Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.'" But read the fine print and you'll see the catch: This recall is only for vehicles fitted with the automaker's auxiliary lighting kit that can be mounted to the front bumper.
Basically, the auxiliary lamp assemblies use 55-watt bulbs, and when these are turned on in conjunction with the upper beam headlamps, it's a pretty blinding sight. NHTSA states that excessively bright lights can blind other drivers, increasing the risk for a crash.
To remedy the situation, Toyota will replace the 55-watt bulbs with cooler 35-watt units. The recall is expected to begin later this month. Scroll down for the full details in the NHTSA report.

Toyota sells off Tesla shares, too

Fri, 24 Oct 2014

The incredible rise of Tesla's stock price has done little to now stop two major shareholders from ditching their stake in the American EV manufacturer. First, Daimler, parent company of Mercedes-Benz, ditched its four-percent stake, and less than a week later, Toyota is doing the same thing, selling off an undisclosed bit of its Tesla investment.
The move comes as Toyota winds down sales of the RAV4 EV, which gets its batteries and electric motor from Tesla at the company's Fremont, CA factory.
"We have a good relationship with Tesla, and will evaluate the feasibility of working together on future projects," Toyota spokesperson Kayo Doi told Bloomberg via email.
