2003 Toyota Avalon Xl Sedan 4-door 3.0l on 2040-cars
Fredericksburg, Virginia, United States
THIS IS A WONDERFUL TOYOTA AVALON WHICH HAS NEVER GIVEN ME ONE MOMENT OF A PROBLEM. CARFAX REPORT IS EXCELLENT, WHICH CAN BE PROVIDED. IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED METICULOUSLY FOR THE LAST 14 YEARS, AND HAS AVERAGED LESS THAN 12,000 MILES PER YEAR. IT HAD BEEN TRUCKED FROM PA TO CA AND BACK TO VA. A LOT OF THE MILES WERE HIGHWAY MILES INCURRED IN CA. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN A GARAGE. MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PRACTICALLY NON-EXISTENT, EXCEPT FOR REGULAR SERVICING, TIRES, ETC. IT RECENTLY HAS HAD A NEW WINDSHIELD INSTALLED AFTER GETTING HIT WITH A STONE FROM A TRUCK. IT HAS ALMOST NEW MICHELEN TIRES. IT HAS AN AUGUST 2015 INSPECTION STICKER ON IT.
I HAVE LOVED THIS CAR AND HESITATE GIVING IT UP, BUT HUSBAND DECIDED WE SHOULD HAVE A NEW ONE WITH MORE TECHNICAL "STUFF" IN IT. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW, WHO RETIRED FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED, SAID IT SHOULD BE GOOD FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 150,000 MILES. THIS WOULD BE EXCELLENT TRANSPORTATION FOR ANYONE WHO PURCHASES IT. WE GET OVER 400 MILES ON A TANK OF GAS ON A TRIP. IT AVERAGES AROUND 25 MPG IN TOWN AND 30 ON TRIPS. THE CAR HAS LOTS OF INSIDE ROOM (ESPECIALLY IN THE BACK SEAT), A HUGE TRUNK WITH PASS THROUGH INTO THE BACK SEAT, ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER MENTIONED ACCESSORIES. PLEASE EMAIL ANY OTHER QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. |

Toyota discontinuing FJ Cruiser after 2014 model year
Tue, 20 Aug 2013The Toyota FJ Cruiser is not long for this world. According to the manufacturer's own fleet website, the rugged FJ will be discontinued after the 2014 model year, with the companies final orders due in June of next year.
Toyota first launched the FJ Cruiser in 2006 as a 2007 model, and aside from minor year-over-year changes, it has not been substantially updated. The FJ is the modern successor to the original FJ40 Land Cruiser that Toyota produced from the 1960s all the way up through 1984, when the automaker decided to better focus on its larger, four-door Land Cruiser line. Currently, it uses a 4.0-liter V6 engine with either rear- or four-wheel drive, and is available with either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Interestingly, word of the FJ's demise comes not long after Toyota's US boss, Bill Fay, reaffirmed his company's commitment to body-on-frame trucks in late July.
Also of interest, Toyota's fleet website states that the 2014 model year Prius range will have "minor updates," though it's unclear what those are as of this writing. When Autoblog reached out to confirm these developments with Toyota, spokesman Curt McCallister reminded us, "As is our corporate policy, we don't discuss future products beyond the present or upcoming model year."
Toyota recalls 4,000 Tacoma pickups over valve springs
Thu, 07 Nov 2013When you build as many cars and trucks as Toyota does, you're bound to run into the occasional recall. In the past month alone, the Japanese auto giant has recalled over 800,000 Camry, Avalon and Venza models over problems with the air-conditioning units, and 10,000 more before that over windshield wiper issues. Now Toyota has issued another recall notice, but this time for far fewer vehicles.
The recall revolves around the engine valve springs in the 2013 and 2014 Tacoma, specifically those fitted with the standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine and not the optional 4.0-liter V6. The issue is that the valve springs are prone to cracking and breaking over time, and results from improper maintenance of the manufacturing equipment used by one of the two suppliers that outfit Toyota with the components in question.
All told, some 4,000 vehicles will be subject to the voluntary recall, the owners of which will receive notice by mail. If you think that could be you and want to get a jump on the problem, you can read the announcement below and call Toyota yourself.
Toyota Me.We concept is a multifunction Tupperware car [w/video]
Wed, 24 Apr 2013Not to be outdone by the Renault Twin'Z concept penned by Welsh designer Ross Lovegrove, Toyota has partnered up with French designer Jean-Marie Massaud to create the 2013 Toyota Me.We Concept. Unveiled at Le Rendez-vous Toyota in Paris, the Me.We Concept is an attempt to imagine a car that can be appreciated by owners across a wide variety of lifestyles while being courteous to the environment, too.
From a "Me" perspective, the concept is highly customizable with removable body panels, and even though it might look like just a small hatchback from the outside, Toyota claims it can also be used as a pickup (with an extendable rear panel), a convertible (with a neoprene roof panel) and even an off-road vehicle. As for the "We" part of the car, it's a fully electric vehicle with individual in-wheel motors and a battery pack mounted under the load floor. The concept has a weight of around 1,600 pounds kept low thanks to an aluminum chassis, but it also features renewable bamboo wood for the floor in addition to the fully recyclable polypropylene exterior body panels.
