Up for sale is my 1997 4Runner SR5 with 254,845 mi. It's fully loaded with A/C, all power options (windows, locks, antenna, etc. - ALL functioning properly), moonroof, factory towing package and newer Kenwood CD/MP3/AUX/iPod unit (model KDC-248U). The 4WD system works as it should and has only been used for inclimate weather (e.g. snow). I have never taken it "off-road".
I have owned the vehicle since 2010 after purchasing from Page Toyota in MI. Over the past (4) years, I have replaced the following: - Transmission - Radiator - Alternator - Timing Belt - Water Pump - Valve Cover Gaskets - Rear Shocks - Battery - Front Brakes (calipers, pads & rotors) - Muffler It has recently developed a small power steering fluid leak (hose) and will need (at some point) rear brake pads. Also, there is a small exhaust leak. Since I've owned it, just about all maintenance has been performed by either Spartan Toyota OR University Foreign Car in MI. I also have all dealer maintenance records for the past 120k (via Toyota Owner's site). The only reason for selling is that I have recently purchased a newer vehicle and as much as I'd like to keep my 4Runner, I don't need (2) vehicles. That being said, It is still driven on a semi-regular basis, so the mileage will vary. If you're looking for a dependable, great running, clean and well-maintained 4Runner; this is it! Toyota mulling more Tundra, Tacoma capacity in TX
Tue, 17 Dec 2013Toyota may be expanding its pickup truck production at its San Antonio, TX factory following calls from dealers for more Tacoma and Tundra models, according to a new report from Automotive News.
The San Antonio plant is currently able to produce 250,000 trucks on two shifts with overtime, while a secondary facility in Tijuana, Mexico can build an extra 50,000 Tacomas. Despite this capacity, and the fact that Tundra is a slow seller relative to the full-size trucks from Ford, Ram and Chevrolet/GMC (not to mention the Tacoma being part of a segment with diminishing sales), Toyota franchisees apparently can't get enough of the trucks.
"Dealers are telling us they could sell more Tacomas and Tundras," said Bill Fay, the general manager of the Toyota Division. "We are evaluating our footprint and capacity." According to AN, Toyota has moved over 248,000 trucks through November.
How Toyota's neighbor delayed 23,000 of its deliveries
Thu, 17 Jul 2014Don't you just hate when your neighbors' mess becomes your problem? Toyota certainly has good reason to be upset, after an dirty mishap at a steel mill delayed thousands of vehicle exports from its nearby port in Nagoya, Japan, (pictured above) by as much as a month.
The messy situation occurred on June 22 when the mill near the port lost power and had to burn off an excess buildup of coke oven gas - which isn't exactly a situation friendly to living beings or the environment. According to Automotive News, it caused a massive amount of smoke to emit from the plant that fell as soot and tar on about 23,000 vehicles that were waiting to be shipped out. Getting the models properly cleaned off has been quite a task. A team of 5,000 workers were at the port until this week getting them gleaming again.
Potential Toyota buyers in North America have no need to fret about getting a sullied car, though. A Toyota spokesperson told Automotive News that none of the vehicles were bound for this continent. The automaker is reportedly considering asking the mill's owners for reimbursement for the cost of the weeks of cleanup. Paying for the mistake is, after all, the neighborly thing to do.
Tesla pulling plug on Toyota RAV4 EV battery deal
Mon, 12 May 2014The future of the Toyota RAV4 EV appears to be in doubt. Tesla supplies the EVs battery packs, and it says that production ends later this year.
"Toyota is expected to end the current RAV4 EV model this year," Tesla said in its quarterly financial filing obtained by Bloomberg. "Our production activities under this program are expected to end in 2014," the company said.
This timeline fits closely with the original production plans for the RAV4 EV. When the $100-million project was first announced, Tesla said that it expected to supply battery packs for the vehicle from 2012 to 2014. Building components for the Japanese automaker continues to bring in money, though. In the company's Q1 2014 letter to shareholders, it said: "Automotive revenue included $15 million of Toyota powertrain sales." According to Bloomberg, Toyota has sold just 1,594 RAV4 EV models from 2012 through April 2014. Initially, the business had estimated that it would sell 2,600 units of the electrified crossover.
