We have a 1995 Toyota 4Runner Limited that we are selling. Was my daily driver up until last week when we bought a minivan. V6, approx 160,000 miles (have to double check for actual). Mechanically good, cosmetically fair.

KBB value on "good": $3,483 Private Party.

Note: Photos show front bumper with a dent, I've since replaced the front bumper so there's no dent.

The Good:
-About $1,400 worth of new components including wheel bearings, steering linkages, thermostat, and more.  New rear brakes (drums, pads, spring kit).
Steers and stops very well.
-Anyone that knows these rigs, knows the head gasket is only good for about 150K miles....just before I acquired it, the headgasket was replaced so it should be good for another 150K.
-Leather seats in decent shape
-Fully operational sunroof and tailgate window
-Tow Package and roof rack
-Shifts well, transfer case goes in and out of 4WD easily.
-Fresh windshield
-Frame is rust free

The Bad:
-Tear in driverside leather seat (has a leather seat cover on it)
-Dashboard has usual sun cracks
-Rear bumper has surface rust
-High beams don't turn on, lows works well. Headlights and bulbs are fine, it's a common toyota fault, just needs a new dimmer switch.
-Drinks a little steering fluid, needs a top off about once a month.
-Carpet is stained from normal use
-One of the speakers doesn't work

Toyota GT86 CS-R3 rally car presages for-sale customer racecar

Thu, 31 Jul 2014

Rallying may enjoy a very strong association with all-wheel drive, but it wasn't so long ago that the World Rally Championship was populated by cars that slipped and slid across gravel and tarmac using rear-wheel drive. One of those was the Toyota Celica. While the little Celica eventually joined the gravel-spewing masses with an all-wheel-drive rally car, Toyota is returning to its rear-drive rally roots with a modified version of the critically acclaimed GT86.
Called the CS-R3, the new model boasts all the necessary changes to turn the diminutive twin of the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ into a car capable of tackling the tough, twisting paths that are so routinely conquered by the world's rally cars. That means, of course, the CS-R3 has gotten a power bump.
Expected output sits between 240 and 250 horsepower, thanks to a new racing exhaust and manifold, as well as other changes. The ECU has been replaced with an item a bit more suited to racing, while the compression ratio has also been adjusted to boost the output.

J.D. Power: Vehicle dependability at all-time high, Lexus and Porsche lead

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Each year, J.D. Power and Associates surveys original owners of three-year-old vehicles to find out what kinds of problems they have had experienced over the last 12 months, and then it uses this data to create its annual Vehicle Dependability Study. This means that the models in the 2013 study are 2010 model year vehicles, and J.D. Power rates each make as well as the top individual models based on how many problems were experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100).
Debunking the idea that carryover models are more dependable than new or updated models, the 2013 study found that the average carryover model experienced 133 PP100, while all-new or redesigned vehicles for the 2010 model year had 116 PP100; vehicles that received minor changes fared the best with just 111 PP100. The overall average for all makes was 126 PP100, which is the lowest figure since the findings were first issued in 1989.

Toyota sells off Tesla shares, too

Fri, 24 Oct 2014

The incredible rise of Tesla's stock price has done little to now stop two major shareholders from ditching their stake in the American EV manufacturer. First, Daimler, parent company of Mercedes-Benz, ditched its four-percent stake, and less than a week later, Toyota is doing the same thing, selling off an undisclosed bit of its Tesla investment.
The move comes as Toyota winds down sales of the RAV4 EV, which gets its batteries and electric motor from Tesla at the company's Fremont, CA factory.
"We have a good relationship with Tesla, and will evaluate the feasibility of working together on future projects," Toyota spokesperson Kayo Doi told Bloomberg via email.
