Panama City, Florida, United States

This is a custom Subaru Brat.  I bought two of them when I was in Alaska and was able to make one good one out of the parts from the other.  I get a lot of cool stories and thumbs up everywhere I go with it.  This has been my daily driver for the past 6 years.  I have done all the mods myself.  The only things that have ever gone bad for me were the starter and alternator.  I have put new wheel bearings and seals, axle shafts, and larger radiator for the larger engine.  It has a fuel injected 2.2 out of a 1995 wagon with 170hp.  The stock engine only had half of that. The engine had 80,000 on it when I removed it from the wagon.  I have since put about 3000 miles/year.  I work only 6 miles from home and ride my motorcycle often.  It has 6 lug hubs with new Chevy 6 lug wheels and tires.  I put a 5 speed out of a 1989 wagon in it.  The Brat never came with a 5 speed.  This transmission is a 4x4.  The original 4 speed comes with the truck as well.  The 4 speed has 2hi, 4hi and 4low the 5 speed has just 2hi and 2low.  The linkage in the 5 speed is getting loose and will need some attention soon but still works fine.  It comes with 3 sets of wheels and tires.  One set of U255's with Strata 255/35ZR20 tires 75% tread left, the second set is Good year Wranglers P235/75R15 on new black rims with 90% tread left and the third set were studded tires I used in Alaska.  I removed the studs and the tires are almost bald now but the wheels are good.

Extra parts that come with this truck are:
hood
4sp transmission
driveshaft
T-tops
T-top seals
Rear axle
Various trim pieces

This is NOT a rust free machine.  It has rust forming on the fenders and under the doors.  The floor is usually the first to go on these but this one is in great shape.

Vehicle is for sale locally and  will end auction early if vehicle is sold locally.
Buyer is responsible for vehicle shipping or pickup.
If full buy it now is payed I will throw in a tow dolly so you can transport easier.
Please feel free to ask any questions.

Toyota 86 most likely to get more power through more displacement? [w/poll]

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

The Sydney Morning Herald has spoken to Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer of the Toyota 86 (our version of it, the Scion FR-S, is pictured above), and they've been promised that more power is on the way. We've heard a lot of speculation about a more powerful Toyobaru since before the standard model was even launched. The only question now is how the power will be delivered, and among the engine concepts we've already heard about - turbo, supercharger, twin-charged, hybrid - is a new one: more displacement.
Tada said that an engine with more displacement than the current coupe's 2.0 liters is being tested alongside a turbocharged and a hybrid-assisted motor. The SMH cites "inside sources" as saying the displacement option is the one likely to get the go-ahead, and suggests increased bore and stroke will see the engine grow to 2.5 liters, horsepower to about 250 - a 50-hp increase over the present car.
While that's apparently the betting man's solution for the long-awaited increase in gumption, what happens with the next generation could be more wide open than we suspected. According to the report, Tada "hinted that [a successor] could be a radically different car, potentially dropping the boxer engine altogether." He said once they've sorted out the concept for the second generation car, then they'll sort out an engine. That's where a turbo option could come to market, perhaps the turbocharged four-cylinder Toyota is developing for the Lexus NX crossover or a hybrid system that uses a capacitor.

Subaru Legacy pitted against Roadkill project cars

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

There's an evergreen debate among auto enthusiasts about whether they would prefer to have the latest and greatest car of today or a certified classic from yesteryear. What if you had to further define that, though, and the choice was between a brand new 2015 Subaru Legacy or a turbocharged Datsun 240Z with a hatch that wouldn't close? Roadkill aimed to find out that and more in one of its best videos to date.
According to the hosts, Subaru came to them, handed over some money and challenged Roadkill's project cars against its latest Legacy. The result is every bit as good (or better) than any automotive-themed show you could find on television.
Things start simple with a figure-eight race in a rodeo arena with the Subaru taking on Roadkill's 1968 Ford Ranchero, originally built for ice racing. From there the Legacy races a 1968 Dodge Charger with no windows around and off-road rally stage. Finally, the Subie goes head-to-head against the Rotsun, the aforementioned turbocharged 240Z, through an abandoned neighborhood. Plus, there's a bonus drag race challenging them all.

Factory Five's Subaru WRX-based 818 kit now on sale [w/video]

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

The Subaru WRX has always needed a dash more style, and the do-it-yourself carmakers at Factory Five are looking to accomplish a lot more than that with their new mid-engine, rear-wheel drive 818. The sports car started with a contest in 2011 to create the shape for the company's next vehicle, while sticking within certain limits. A designer named Nouphone Bansasi had his entry chosen, and first cars were completed last year.
The 818 is named after its target weight of 818 kilograms (1,803 pounds), and it's offered in two forms. The S starts at $9,990 and is meant for street use, with two seats and a basic interior. The R model for $10,990 is more track-focused and features a tiny windshield and full roll cage. The company claims that complete cars can be built for around $15,000, after factoring in the donor Subaru. Performance is very brisk, with acceleration to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds, according to Motor Authority.
The kits are meant to be something that even a relative novice could put together. All the builder needs to provide is a 2002-2007 Impreza or WRX. The car donates its turbocharged boxer four-cylinder engine, transmission, axles, brakes, steering and other major components. Factory Five supplies the spaceframe, body, suspension, lights, windshield and some interior trim. It doesn't even need paint, thanks to its gel-coated fiberglass body panels. The company also offers a laundry list of options, including carbon fiber aero components, upgraded suspension parts, improved brakes and more. Kits can be ordered in either left- or right-hand drive.
