Looking for a project?

This 2006 Subaru Outback 2.5XT Limited is in great shape (except for the fact that it doesn't run).

The turbo and all associated parts need to be replaced, but there's a chance the engine itself is repairable.

When the turbo failed, bits of metal were found in the engine oil.

It wouldn't make financial sense for me (or you, for that matter) to pay someone else to fix it, but if you're looking to get dirty and put in the work yourself, this might be the car for you.

Positives:

• Everything electrical works.
• I added a hard-wired auxiliary audio jack.
• Huge sunroof (which works and doesn't leak).
• The car is a blast to drive (when it runs) and is fantastic in snowy/icy conditions.
• Relatively new tires (replaced all four a year ago).

Negatives:

• Engine doesn't run, needs turbo/intercooler, etc. replaced. Engine may need to be replaced. (Just restating in case you missed it above).
• Small chip in windshield on driver's side.
• Driver's seat leather  is visibly more worn than other seats, but is still in above average condition.

The rest of the car is in very good condition. According to kbb.com, if it were running, it would be worth $9,400 in fair condition (so there may be the possibility of making a profit off of your project).

Buyer (aka you), is/are responsible for towing/shipping the vehicle from Yakima, WA.

Sold as-is.

2015 Subaru Legacy, Outback crash their way to IIHS Top Safety Pick+ ratings [w/video]

Wed, 20 Aug 2014

The Subaru Legacy and Outback are the latest vehicles to be awarded the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's most prestigious safety title, Top Safety Pick+.
As we've explained many times before, this only applies vehicles that can score an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating on the five IIHS crash tests and earn at least a "Basic" rating for crash prevention systems.
In the Legacy's case, it totally aced IIHS's testing, earning "Good" scores on the small overlap, front moderate overlap, side impact, roof crush and rear impact tests, while also bringing home the top "Superior" rating for its optional EyeSight system.

Next-gen Subaru WRX STI spotted at the N"urburgring

Tue, 16 Apr 2013

Subaru has been busy testing the next-generation WRX STI. Well, it may be the STI. The big wing out back lends some credence to that theory, but it could be that the basic WRX is getting new action in the back section. Time will tell.
In either case, spy photographers nabbed a few shots of the heavily camouflaged sedan running around the Nürburgring. Unfortunately, it looks as if Subaru has taken some of the sexy out of the WRX Concept we saw at the New York Auto Show, leaving this car looking more derivative of the current model than a revolution in design. The bold power bulge has disappeared from the vehicle's hood and the lower fascia looks far more demure than the the wild concept. Likewise, the muscular rear fenders have been toned down substantially.
The result is a car that looks more like a mildly warmed over version of the current model than a production version of the WRX Concept. Still, engineers and designers may have a long way to go before the finished product hits the market, so we'll reserve final judgement for now. After all, the early BRZ mules were nothing short of a travesty to look at, and we know how that turned out. Hope springs eternal.

Motor Trend pits Subaru WRX vs. Ford Focus ST

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

The Ford Focus ST has enjoyed a relatively calm, if brief, reign in the world of hot hatches. With nothing else in the class (in the States, at least) but the aging Mazdaspeed3 and Subaru Impreza WRX and the slow-selling Volkswagen Golf R, the Blue Oval's 252-horsepower five door has been the go-to vehicle for those that don't need the high-octane lunacy (and expense) of the rally bred Subaru Impreza WRX STI and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.
Now, though, as the new Subaru WRX (it's not an Impreza anymore, though, neither is it a hatchback...) starts to arrive at dealers, the Focus ST appears to be under threat for the first time. Naturally, Motor Trend is here to figure out which one is the best, with another one of its Head 2 Head videos. Host Jonny Lieberman puts both cars through their paces, going above and beyond, quite literally, at the very end of the video.
