You are bidding on a 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon (VIN# JF1GG29632G822238). I am the original owner of this car, I bought it when they first became available in the US. I knew they were going to be great cars, and this one has not disappointed me.

I have loved driving it for the entire 130k miles that are on the car. The only reason why I am parting with it is because my commute to work is now taking me through downtown traffic and it's time for me to get a new WRX, but with the automatic for the bumper to bumper traffic I will likely be facing. I have not regretted a single mile in this car.

Important notes on the car:

- I have kept all service records on the car, I always used synthetic oil, and there are no leaks nor burning smoke coming from the engine.
- The seats are in very good condition. There are no tears, holes or large stains.
- The car has never been wrecked. The only body damage that has occurred resulted from things lightly denting it during Hurricane Wilma, and one light hit to the left passenger door while it was in a parking lot. All body work was done professionally by a dealership body shop.
- This car is loaded with every option that was available in 2002. It has the sport instrument cluster, the upgraded Subaru sound system, and the alarm system, among other options.
- I purchased the protective cargo tray and mats.

Recent services performed/parts replaced:

- Heavy duty clutch installed at 90k miles.
- Both rear struts were replaced ($400 each side)
- Both front CV joints were replaced recently
- AC serviced and the expansion valve and drier was replaced
- Most light bulbs were replaced with LED bulbs
- New auto-dimming rear view mirror with electronic compass

Additional Items Installed:

- Turbo boost controller that allows the engine to be switched from low to high boost for power or economy modes.
- Computer programmer that allows the computer to be programmed with various maps (profiles) for a range of modes from high performance to economy to stock modes in just a few seconds.
- 17" wheels and tires with plenty of tread.
- Subaru slotted high performance rotors and pads.
- Radar detector
- Remote start so the car AC will cool the car down on a hot day before you get in it.
- Short shifter with nylon bushings (the original Subaru rubber bushings always wear out and the shifter gets sloppy. This shifter is tight.)
- Borla stainless exhaust bought through Subaru. This is NOT a "fart pipe". It is a deep, bass-filled tone that sounds more like a V-8.
- Exhaust up-pipe to the turbo.
- Larger turbo (I still have the original turbo and it was working well when I removed it at 110k miles.)
- STI version hood scoop. This is a Subaru part that allows more air to cool the intercooler.
- Trailer hitch. I used it with a rear-mounted bike rack.
- Tinted windows

Things to note:

- There are a few chips in the paint around the front that you would expect on a car of this age.
- The heavier clutch has a little bit of chatter if you try to start too softly.
- Since I use RainX, I have never used the windshield washer system. I think the supply tubes dried out since there has never been washer fluid in them.
- In the sport instrument cluster, the oil pressure gauge does not work. The oil indicator in the dash works, but this is an add-on option that relies on a wire that goes into the oil drain plug underneath the engine. Objects and branches on the road cut this wire, and after the 3rd time repairing it, I did not repair it when it was cut again. Easy to fix.

It is the buyer's responsibility to test drive and ask any and all questions regarding this car. I will try to answer everything to the extent that I am able, and I will make myself available for showing the car based on my schedule. This is a used car in a private sale, so there is no warranty and the sale is final, so please test drive the car first and ask me any questions that you think are important.

IIHS says these are the safest cars of 2013

Wed, 02 Jan 2013

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed its annual list of Top Safety Picks, an award that highlights automobiles it says offer "superior crash protection." A new and still more significant award, the Top Safety Pick+ honor, is given to those vehicles that earn good ratings for occupant protection in four out of five areas of measure. And while some 117 vehicles were given the TSP seal of approval for 2013, just 13 passed muster for TSP+.
To be fair, IIHS only evaluated 29 vehicles with its new testing procedures for TSP+ (we'd expect that the number of qualified cars will rise substantially for 2014). Luxury and Near Luxury midsize cars were the first groups evaluated, followed by midsizers in the Moderately Priced Cars category - unsurprisingly, it's only midsize cars that you'll find among the class this year.
Only two luxury sedans made the list of 13 for 2013: the Acura TL and Volvo S60. The other 11 cars on the list included entries from domestic, Japanese and German car makers: Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord (sedan and coupe), Kia Optima (but not its close kin, the Hyundai Sonata, strangely), Nissan Altima, Subaru Legacy and Outback, Suzuki Kizashi and the Volkswagen Passat all made the grade.

Which is quicker in the standing mile, a Subaru WRX STI or a Porsche Cayman?

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

The 2015 Subaru WRX STI and 2014 Porsche Cayman are both saddled with unfair reputations. The STI with its huge wing and gold wheels has the title of the ultimate boy-racer. On the other hand, Porsche brand snobs look down on he base Cayman as just a wannabe 911. In reality, they are both pretty fantastic performance cars. But what would happen if the two of them lined up at a stoplight, and maybe the guy in the suit in the Cayman started throwing some revs at the young man in the STI? Automobile decided to find out in a recent video pitting the two stereotyped hot rods against each other in a standing-mile drag race.
In terms of raw numbers, they are surprisingly close. Both use flat engines and six-speed manual transmissions here, but the Subaru has more power and torque. However, the Porsche makes up for it with 300 pounds less weight. Neither should have a problem with traction either thanks to the STI's sophisticated all-wheel-drive setup, and the Cayman's mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.
The comparable specs certainly show themselves in the real world for the race. We're not going to give away the winner here because it's too exciting, but let's just say the finish is very, very close. Scroll down to watch both of them shrug off their stereotypes and show off their real performance.

Subaru Legacy pitted against Roadkill project cars

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

There's an evergreen debate among auto enthusiasts about whether they would prefer to have the latest and greatest car of today or a certified classic from yesteryear. What if you had to further define that, though, and the choice was between a brand new 2015 Subaru Legacy or a turbocharged Datsun 240Z with a hatch that wouldn't close? Roadkill aimed to find out that and more in one of its best videos to date.
According to the hosts, Subaru came to them, handed over some money and challenged Roadkill's project cars against its latest Legacy. The result is every bit as good (or better) than any automotive-themed show you could find on television.
Things start simple with a figure-eight race in a rodeo arena with the Subaru taking on Roadkill's 1968 Ford Ranchero, originally built for ice racing. From there the Legacy races a 1968 Dodge Charger with no windows around and off-road rally stage. Finally, the Subie goes head-to-head against the Rotsun, the aforementioned turbocharged 240Z, through an abandoned neighborhood. Plus, there's a bonus drag race challenging them all.
