Model Overview

The 2012 Scion tC comes in two trim levels from the factory, base trim and a new-for-2012 "Release Series 7.0" trim. Buyers can choose to equip it with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed sequential automatic transmission. Power for all tCs comes from a new 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with dual variable valve timing. The unit produces 180 hp and 173 lb-feet of torque, making plenty of power at the first stomp of the gas.The tC benefits from MacPherson front, while the rear utilizes an independent double-wishbone system. Steering is quick thanks to electronically assisted rack-and-pinion power steering. Standard features include power mirrors, windows and locks, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, sport seats, a 60/40 split folding rear seat, keyless entry, panoramic power moonroof and an 8-speaker Pioneer audio system with USB port and iPod connectivity. The Release Series 7.0 tC adds on a unique body kit, a honeycomb grille, an 18-inch alloy wheels and proximity keyless entry.The options list is extensive, and includes body graphics, rear spoiler, fog lights, door sill accents, Bluetooth, remote start, TRD performance accessories, Alpine premium audio, navigation and XM satellite radio.Safety is paramount in the tC, with advanced front airbags, front side-mount airbags, front and rear side airbags, active headrests front and rear, a first aid kit and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Rutledge Wood wins Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in Long Beach

Rutledge Wood took home the checkered flag at this year's Toyota Pro/Celebrity race at the Grand Prix of Long Beach. The Top Gear USA presenter, Fox Sports commentator and Honda Wagovan owner managed to take pole position in qualifying, but lost his lead early in the race to Mark Steines. Steines has competed in the Pro/Celebrity race four times so far, but the Hallmark channel host of Home and Family couldn't quite hold on to the lead. Wood eventually made up the ground he had lost for the win. This year, all the participants went fender to fender in identically prepared Scion FR-S racers.
Meanwhile, Adam Carolla took first in the Pro category, and Toyota donated $5,000 on behalf of each participant to Racing for Kids. The charity benefits children's hospitals in the Long Beach area, and this year Toyota donated a total of $90,000. Check out the full press release below for more information.

Scion teases mysterious sporty iM concept for LA show

Thoroughly cleansed of our time at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, we can now start looking forward to the next big show on the circuit (with all due respect to SEMA), the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. One of the earliest new cars slated for LA is this, the Scion iM Concept.
Now, these teaser images don't show us terribly much. We can see the headlights, foglights and wheels. The little information we can glean indicates that, based on the short hood and minimal space between the front door and front axle, the iM will be a very small vehicle. That said, a very low ride height (and Scion's own press release) claims this will be a rather sporty offering. The concept's nose and grille, meanwhile, bears some resemblance to Toyota's most recent stylings.
We'll have more when the iM Concept debuts in LA on November 19. Until then, check out the pair of teasers and the official press release, available below.

Shin Tanaka is a "Japanese artist, graffiti writer, paper toy creator, designer" with Kennedy Center credentials - his Paper Shaper sneakers are especially popular. Scion has done a DIY collaboration with Tanaka that can get you every one of Scion's five models as a Paper Shaper.
There are two ways to get in on the auto origami, the first being to stop by the Scion booth if you happen by one of the coming season's auto shows. Since that's a lot of work and waiting to acquire a perforated sheet of paper, you can also download the Scion Paper Shaper app from iTunes. In the app you can customize your model, complete with custom paper sneakers on the custom paper base, then print it out and build it yourself.
