1995 Saab 9000 5 Spd on 2040-cars
Red Bank, New Jersey, United States
Super clean 9000CS with only 175,000 original miles. Many new parts by prior owner including: transmission, clutch, windshield, radiator, A/C condenser, water pump, serpentine belt, fuel tank and pump, Heater coil; etc.
Exterior of the car is a very nice 5 footer - no major dents, no rust, some scratches and parking lot dings. Interior is original with minor wear on drivers seat but nothing that can not be buffed out. Other seating is like new. Headliner is intact and dash board is crack free. Car starts up every time, runs like a clock and gets 28 - 30 mpg. Car comes with a set of Bridgestone winter tires on alloy wheels and a set of Kuhmo all-season radials on the original three spoke alloys. All wheels are straight and balanced. The hatchback feature is like having a station wagon without the unsightliness of a wagon. I have hauled two kids to and from college in a 9000 hatchback while other have rented U-haul vans. Car need nothing and can be reliably driven anywhere. |

Vampire Weekend burns for Saab
Thu, 21 Mar 2013Or is it the other way around?
Could Vampire Weekend be trying to tell me something? A just-launched music video for the indie rock band's new single Diane Young features what looks like a pretty mint black Saab 900 Turbo Convertible being torched in slow-motion. In fact, with the exception of a brief, flickering cameo by a 900 three-door of a similar vintage, that's all that there is to the nearly three-minute long video. It's both sad and oddly beautiful.
Coincidentally, I have a similar-looking turbocharged black Saab convertible sitting in my garage, and I've been reluctantly pondering its sale this very week. Admittedly, mine is a later model (2001 9-3 Viggen), but tri-spokes and more tapered rump aside, it looks eerily identical. And while mine isn't mired in flames (I love it too much to torch it), through no fault of its own, it's been sitting motionless far too regularly. Thankfully, I see a better future for it than the droptop seen above.
Saab 900 SPG is the latest Petrolicious love story
Thu, 03 Oct 2013The latest video from the crew at Petrolicious covers one funky Swede - a 1989 Saab 900 SPG. Produced from 1978 to 1998, the 900 enjoyed a long history, and thanks to its iconic look, it's quickly becoming a modern classic for the off-kilter car enthusiast. The SPG, short for Special Performance Group, makes this a particularly rare find, with owner Jordan Melville saying, "I didn't even realize what I had at the time."
Melville gives a rundown of his life with the 900 and his passion for Saab overall, even reflecting on that dark day that saw the Swedish brand closed its doors. As always, the videography is excellent and the story is intriguing in this latest video from Petrolicious. You can view the entire video down below.
NEVS' reorganization plan approved after all?
Fri, 29 Aug 2014What a difference a day makes. Thursday, we reported that current Saab parent National Electric Vehicle Sweden had its application for creditor protection denied by the Swedish court for being "vague and completely undocumented." But NEVS was back in court on Friday, and this time the application was granted. However, the story continued to get weirder as defense contractor Saab AB allegedly revoked NEVS' rights to use the Saab name.
NEVS did put out a brief press release confirming the court decision saying: "The District court of Vänersborg, Sweden, today August 29 approved the application for reorganization from National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB." The company allegedly has over 90 creditors, and according to Reuters, it owes them roughly 400 million Swedish krona ($57.56 million). The business says that it is in negotiations with two, unnamed companies to get additional funding.
Also, according to Reuters, Saab AB, best known for making fighter planes, has revoked NEVS' rights to the Saab brand name because the company's application for creditor protection gave the defense contractor that right. When NEVS bought Saab, it only acquired the automaker's physical assets, and had to negotiate for the rights to use the name.
