This is an early-2006-build Cayman S, black over black, in fabulous condition, with 21,104 mostly freeway and interstate miles, of these some 10,000 miles being from one Vermont-Rocky Mountains-Vermont cross country trip on high speed limited access thoroughfares.

I am the second owner, having purchased the car from Frost Cadillac in Boston in March 2007 with 3220 miles on the odometer. Sale when new was made by Herb Chambers Porsche in Boston. Apart from the cross-country trip, this vehicle has spent its life in MA and VT and has never seen a winter road, thus no exposure to salt or other agents. Garaged every night of its life, and kept in winter storage from late October to late April every year.

This automobile has had zero moments of mechanical trouble during my ownership of it.

I wanted a Cayman S with the best basic package for non-track driving, and I found that it this vehicle:
  • 6-speed manual
  • 18" wheels
  • Michelin Pilot Sport 235/40 ZR18's front, 265/40 ZR18's rear (current set has 3000 miles on it)
  • Sport steering wheel
  • Bi-xenon headlights
I didn't want any extraneous (and ridiculously pricey) Porsche options that add nothing to the type of driving experience I enjoy, so this car doesn't have any of these. The proper transmission, wheel geometry, standard-tune suspension, sport steering wheel and top-line headlights were all I needed. The hydraulic power steering in this model, now superseded by an electric system and no longer available in new Caymans, is in my opinion the finest Porsche steering ever offered.

Car will be thoroughly detailed prior to delivery to purchaser.

This is nothing short of an outstanding driver's car, and one of the best handling automobiles at ANY price point, ever. This is a true bargain for the sports car enthusiast.

Porsche Cayman, Boxster caught in GTS trim

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

A few months ago, we reported on some leaked information from an internal presentation for upcoming Porsche models. This included details about the Macan and the 911 Targa, which we now know to be true, but there was also talk about GTS versions of the Cayman and Boxster.
Well, it appears we're now getting our first look at these GTS models, as our spy photographers have just snapped a pair of Porsche prototypes out testing - one Cayman and one Boxster.
Right off the bat, we can see that both GTS-branded cars will get a slightly tweaked exterior with new fascias (bringing LED daytime running lights to the Cayman) and air diffusers at the rear. The true gem of these cars will be the added horsepower to the tune of 340 horsepower - a 15-hp bump. A manual transmission will likely be standard, as will Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM).

Leno steals Porsche 918 from The Quail for latest Garage episode

Sat, 31 Aug 2013

Just because he's a famous celebrity doesn't mean Jay Leno got to take it easy at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance earlier this month. Having already spent some time with the gorgeous Cadillac Elmiraj Concept and Ed Welburn for a recent episode of Jay Leno's Garage, the late night talk show host also got to put a few miles on a prototype version of the Porsche 918 Spyder.
Like a usual episode of JLG, Leno first goes over the details of the car with Frank Walliser, head of the 918 Spyder's development, before taking it out for spin. Check out the full episode, which is posted below, to hear what Walliser has to say about the car. More importantly, though, crank up your computer's volume and let the car's high-revving engine and amazing exhaust note do plenty of talking for itself.

Which is quicker in the standing mile, a Subaru WRX STI or a Porsche Cayman?

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

The 2015 Subaru WRX STI and 2014 Porsche Cayman are both saddled with unfair reputations. The STI with its huge wing and gold wheels has the title of the ultimate boy-racer. On the other hand, Porsche brand snobs look down on he base Cayman as just a wannabe 911. In reality, they are both pretty fantastic performance cars. But what would happen if the two of them lined up at a stoplight, and maybe the guy in the suit in the Cayman started throwing some revs at the young man in the STI? Automobile decided to find out in a recent video pitting the two stereotyped hot rods against each other in a standing-mile drag race.
In terms of raw numbers, they are surprisingly close. Both use flat engines and six-speed manual transmissions here, but the Subaru has more power and torque. However, the Porsche makes up for it with 300 pounds less weight. Neither should have a problem with traction either thanks to the STI's sophisticated all-wheel-drive setup, and the Cayman's mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.
The comparable specs certainly show themselves in the real world for the race. We're not going to give away the winner here because it's too exciting, but let's just say the finish is very, very close. Scroll down to watch both of them shrug off their stereotypes and show off their real performance.
