1989 Porsche 944 S2 Coupe 2-door 3.0l on 2040-cars

Year:1989 Mileage:85690
Location:

Sarasota, Florida, United States

Sarasota, Florida, United States

This 1989 Porsche 944 S2 is being offered for sale, the best thing about this particular car, is it's originality, very unmolested, never raced, just driven properly. The only items that have been upgraded are the wheels and the exhaust; wheels are off a 1995 Carrera 911 (authentic Porsche Cup 3), exhaust is a high flow 3" full stainless steel, with stainless muffler and tip. The condition of the entire car is impressive, considering it's 25 years old, the Porsche quality is clearly visible, everything works, power windows, side view mirrors, pop-up roof, rear hatch, seats, etc.. Features one year old Cooper Zeon RS3-S tires, condition, new alternator, new battery, new brake pads all four corners (MINTEX), overall this car is a true time capsule, not many available so well maintained as this example.
Powered by the legendary 4 cylinder, 3.0L engine, naturally aspirated, rated at 208 H.P., very reliable, with 5 speed manual transmission, factory BREMBO 4 piston calipers.
The previous owner had the timing belt, rails, water pump, seals, valve cover gasket, and all belts replaced in September 2012, this is a very critical service, which many 944's are neglected.
The following items are what eventually will need service:
- Clutch: it's the original unit, therefore, with over 85,000+ miles, it's starting to show little signs of slipping, specially under hard acceleration, between 1st and 2nd gear.
- Front sway bar bushings: this is a super easy fix, I just haven't had the time to get to it, bushings are about $25.00/set, labor is less than one hour, weekend garage project.
- Interior courtesy lights: they worked fine when I purchased the car, and about 8 months ago, they quit working, I think is a ground connection, since all bulbs and fuses have been checked, and all are fine.

This car is always a center of conversation, everywhere I go, I get complements, the color combination with Alpine White exterior, Dark Blue interior, is timeless, will never be dated, updated with the 17 in. Cup 3 wheels, staggered, a very cool car indeed.
I purchased this car for my wife and I to drive occasionally on weekends, and we have enjoyed very much, we had it for a little over a year, but now decided to buy a convertible.
Good luck, and thank you for bidding.

The pre-race and first in-race report from Le Mans

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

The 2013, 90th anniversary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has begun, tragedy marking the opening laps with the death of Allan Simonsen. We're at the track now as a guest of Audi and plan to stay through the evening, and even we haven't been able to find out what caused the accident - the only video is from just after the incident, and beyond the statement from ACO there's been no more news. The Aston Martin in the LM GTE Am class and its all-Danish drivers had taken pole in its class and was one of the favorites to win.
The pre-race report will come first, and even thought we can't spoil the race because we're only five hours into it at the time of writing, we'll put all of the news at the end in case you don't even want the updates.
Or you can go straight to the high-res galleries above.

Porsche releases new images of LMP1 racecar

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

Porsche has released another batch of images of its LMP1 competitor preparing for its debut season in 2014. This isn't the first we've seen of the new car, as June saw four images of the new racer undergoing testing. Where those images looked merely like someone taking pics during the test, the 11 new images seen above have all the hallmarks of highly polished PR shots.
That aside, the camo-covered cars still provide another look at what the new LMP1 car will look like when it arrives next season. The taillights follow the example set by Audi, by vertically mounting ultra-thin LEDs on the tips of the rear wing, while the LED headlights sport the four-prong look that Porsche has been pushing of late. Besides those two items, its difficult to make out many details due to the amount of camo.
Porsche's LMP1 effort will be focused on the FIA World Endurance Championship, which will see the revered brand return to the top flights of the 24 Hours Of Le Mans with F1 ace Mark Webber behind the wheel. As we've mentioned before, the German brand has set up a dedicated microsite that will cover its newest racer's progress.

Preserving automotive history costs big bucks

$1.8 million is spent each year to maintain GM's fleet of 600 production and concept cars.
When at least two of the Detroit Three were on the verge of death a few years back, one of the tough questions that was asked of Ford, General Motors and Chrysler execs - outside of why execs were still taking private planes to meetings - was why each company maintained huge archives of old production and concept vehicles. GM, for example, had an 1,100-vehicle collection when talk of a federal bailout began.
