This 1980 Porsche 933 is one of sixteen 924 chassis cars factory developed in Weissach and delivered to Holbert Racing in Pennsylvania in preparation for SCCA D-Production competition. This was Holbert chassis #2, serial number 92A0490002, which at the hands of its first owner competed in D-Production and when that class was eliminated it was upgraded to GT-3 specs. With its second owner at the wheel, the car became arguably the most successful GT-3 924 in history, with six track records, an overall NASPORT championship and 4th at the runoffs in 1991. A number of period pictures, articles, factory letters and race results are included. Although the car has only one test day on it since a complete engine, trans, and shock rebuild, it has been in storage since 2006 and needs freshening

These cars were designed by the factory to race in SCCA D Production Championship. The Porsche project number of these race cars was 933. Only 16 were built by the factory. If you had the right connections, you could buy the parts as a kit from Porsche to convert your street car into a fully race-ready 924.

Internal factory number: 933
- Launched on April 26, 1979, as Project 924/80.
- US SCCA Racers – 16 total (1980, 92A0490001-92A0490016)
- Designed and assembled at Weissach.
- Assembly and tuning finished at Warrington, Pennsylvania by Al Holbert.
Ownership history of 1980 Porsche 924 DP – #92A0490002 – “Holbert car # 2”
Stefan Edlis:
Originally purchased through, and built by, Holbert Racing in Warrington, PA and raced under Apollo Plastics livery (car #10 and #15) in SCCA D-Production and GT-3 classes. The car was heavily modified to compete in GT-3 by David Finch, owner of Raetech Motorsports Engineering of Ann Arbor, MI. The suspension and chassis were completely redesigned. Extensive lightening, gusseting and other custom fabrication is visible everywhere. (Finch is a 6-time SCCA GT-2 National Champion driving in a Porsche 944. Finch used the knowledge gained from the Edlis conversion for his own 944 GT-2 build.) Finch believes that Holbert only built 3 complete factory cars: One that Doc Bundy drove to the 1980 DP championship, Edlis’s car and a show car now owned by Tom Brennan.). Edlis raced against and ultimately with Tom Brennan (1981 SCCA DP National Champion in Holbert 924 DP # 1).

Don Meluzio:
Purchased car from Edlis in 1988. Meluzio ran the car under Porsche Model Club livery (car #53). Meluzio won NASPORT championship in 1991 (12 wins, 9 poles, 6 track records) and again 1994. Third in Runoffs in 1989, fourth in 1991 (continuous Runoffs in the 924 from 88-92). Meluzio finished 9th in 1991 Porsche Cup, 15th in 1989 Porsche Cup and traveled to Germany for the ceremonies. Letters from J"urgen Barth (Porsche Head of Customer Racing) and Bob Carlson (Porsche Manager of Racing) congratulating him on his success. The car held the GT-3 track record at 6 tracks, including Lime Rock Park for many years with a 0:58 second lap. It has dozens of SCCA National Event wins to its credit. Meluzio’ s crew chief was Vic Biser. Michael Stimpson did the head and cam work.

Tom Scheuren:
Scheuren ran the car under the Diablo Racing banner (car #53) in SCCA regional and national events from 1993 – 1998. The car was parked in favor of a GT-1 effort in the Rolex Endurance Series. In 2005, Scheuren had the engine, trans and shocks rebuilt and it only one test day at Watkins Glen. It has been in storage since 2006.

This 924 would be competitive in SCCA GT-3 today and would likely dominate the small bore classes of SVRA and PCA. Due to the extended storage, the seller suggests that the head will need to be pulled to replace valve springs, fluids changed, seat belts updated ect before taking it to the track.

This car has been extensively modified, it doesnt have a vin number but the parts alone are worth more then the asking price and the history on the car is solid. It will be sold with a bill of sale.

The Engine is currently disassembled to a short block. The seller is willing to reassemble the body and or pack parts inside the car for shipping.

I’m listing this car for a friend of mine, I’m not the owner. Please get in touch through Ebay messaging let’s have a brief conversation and then I’ll put you in touch with the seller. Buyer to pay me (Uplife) a non-refundable deposit within 24 hours then arrange final payment and shipping with the seller.

This car is located in New Port Richey, Florida (West coast, North of Tampa).

Jaguar F-Type squares off against Porsche 911, Aston V8 Vantage with Chris Harris

Fri, 21 Jun 2013

Chris Harris is back on the job, taking on really really difficult car questions like: Which enormously sexy and good-to-drive, high-performance convertible is the top of the heap? As one of the hottest cars in the luxury space right now, the Jaguar F-Type S is, of course, in on the action. Competition comes in the form of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster and the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. Sun-loving CEOs who despise test-driving need look no further.
Scroll on below for a fully featured (with a running time of more than 20 minutes) comparison video. Harris does his best to entertain - in a typically nitpicky and made-up-British-words fashion - and the moving pictures are lovely to look at. Kick back, pour a pint and get your weekend started off right.

Porsche revisits its remarkable SC East African Safari rally car

Wed, 09 Jul 2014

Porsche and motorsports just seem to go hand-in-hand. The brand has defined itself by its ability to compete on the track with the concept that racing bred better road cars. While we are used to seeing 911s speeding along circuits around the world, the rear-engine icon's success in rallying is somewhat less well known. The Porsche Museum aims to fix that by highlighting a 911 SC that competed in the 1978 East African Safari Rally.
The 911 rally car definitely projects a '70s vibe. You wouldn't see too many racecars with a pink brush bar sliding through the stages these days, but it looks amazing. Its bank of spotlights and two, giant, hood-mounted horns definitely give away the car's purpose. Best of all, that fantastic Martini livery defines the looks of Porsche racers from this era.
The 911 SC performed well in the East African Safari Rally, but some suspension damage meant that this particular one never raced again. It's been a part of the Porsche Museum ever since. Scroll down to learn a little more about one part of the brand's off-road legacy.

Parents of terminally ill child sue after son dies following make-a-wish-style ride

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

Some stories are so sad and depressing, they make you want to go back to bed and pull the covers over your head. This is one such story. 14-year-old Raphael Wittman was suffering from an unspecified form of terminal cancer when he was invited by the children's cancer charity Kinder Krebs Hilfe to a charity drive organized by Porsche Forum Austria. During the drive, the Porsche Boxster Wittman was riding in was involved in a head-on collision. Both of his legs were broken and he bit off his tongue in the wreck. He died seven weeks later, in a Vienna hospital. Now, his father is suing the charity, claiming that the accident robbed his son of the will to live.
"The accident set off a chain of events starting with the doctors putting him on new medication for the cancer he had. He was always a fighter, but suddenly he was saying that he was not going to fight any more," Franz Wittman told Austria's Kurier, according to The Guardian. "We would have had a wonderful last time together [on vacation] but it never happened because of the accident."
Father and son were originally planning to go to Tenerife to spend time together, although those plans were cancelled following the accident.
