This rare 1974 Porsche roadster (California car) comes with the desirable 2.0 liter engine. The engine was recently rebuilt, and has approximately 500 miles. The 2.0 liter is considered by many to be the most powerful engine in these cars, especially in the 73' and 74' Porsche 914 (4 cylinder). The earlier 914-6 cylinder is the only engine that came with more power! This great car comes with dual 40mm double barrel carburetors, and it runs good. It gets all the attention wherever it goes!!! There are no dents nor major scratches on the exterior. The paint is okay, but there are a few imperfections, especially on the front hood. There is no visible rust!!! The tires are good, with about 70% of tread left. The brakes work fine, and I have extra brakes/calipers and many other spare parts for this vehicle. Car also comes with the original owner's manual and with about 15 repair books covering the entire vehicle (motor, transmission, electrical, body, suspension, fuel system, etc). The lights (electrical) on this car work fine. Registration/tags are good through August of 2014 and car is insured. I have the title/ pink slip registered to me.

The seats are Recaro/ Porsche seats from a 2000 Porsche Boxter or Carrera; they have seat covers and are a lot more comfortable than the stock seats! The carpet, door panels, the back pad, the dash and everything in the interior looks good. Doors open and close fine and all door handles and window cranks work fine. The front glass and windows are good without cracks. The rubber seals are there, and they keep the interior dry. The dash is the original one, and was refurbished (cracks were filled and sanded, & dash was dyed black). Car has a nice Alpine CD stereo, and it also has several speakers. Car also comes with a center console with 3 gauges (clock, voltage and temp). There is a newer spare tire in the front compartment and a jack in the rear.

There are some minor things that might need attention, like the AC, heater and the speedometer. They are either not functional or they are simply not connected (could be a fuse, relay or a line not connected). Fuel and temp gauges work fine. Also, I recently noticed that the car has a really minor oil leak. I always drove this vehicle on the weekends, with the top off (I never needed any AC or heater). Since my baby was born about 7 months ago, I haven't been driving it much, and now It is time to pass it on. I regularly had a technician adjust the valves, carburetors and the timing. The car is 40 years old and it is in really good condition, overall! It is a survivor!! Potential buyers are welcome to come see the car. I am also including a anti-theft device and a water proof car cover with the purchase. Thanks for your interest.

UK Porsche GT3 owners are irked that other countries are getting better deals

Sun, 27 Apr 2014

Porsche 911 GT3 owners in the United Kingdom are up in arms, but it's not for the reason you might think. Okay, well it sort of is. See, it's been fairly well documented that 911 GT3 owners have had their cars grounded over concerns that the engines could catch fire. Porsche is rushing to build and install replacement engines in all 800 or so cars, scattered around the globe.
This isn't really the issue. The problem for these British owners is compensation. While the car's have been grounded, car notes still need to be paid. To deal with this, American GT3 owners are being paid $2,000 per month. German owners get 175 euros ($242 at today's rates) per day while a GT3 owner in Dubai is allegedly receiving $12,000 (it's unclear if this is a lump sum or a monthly payment). Basically, if you aren't able to drive your six-figure super car, you shouldn't have to pay for it. Seems reasonable regardless of the make.
British owners, though, aren't being compensated, and for 30 to 35 owners, that's not acceptable. They've banded together and are led by Sunil Mehra.

Porsche 911 Aerodynamic prototype cheated the wind ahead of its time

Wed, 04 Jun 2014

You might think that sports cars would have the lowest drag coefficient of all cars. And yes, they do tend to be more slippery than, say, SUVs or convertibles, but the sleekest vehicles on the road tend to be EVs, hybrids and luxury sedans. Sports cars, on the other hand, have aerodynamically detrimental needs for downforce and additional engine cooling. Still, the Porsche 911 is better than most, and has only gotten more so over the years. Its relatively narrow track and compact form mean it has a smaller frontal area than some other sports cars, and the gradual sweeping back of its headlights and windshield have only augmented its capacity for cheating the wind.
This 911 prototype, however, is even more aerodynamic than most. It's based on a "G model" 911 from 1984, but employed such features as covered wheels, a new rear spoiler and a reprofiled front end to drop its drag coefficient from 0.40 to 0.27, making it as slippery as a modern sedan and better at cheating the wind than just about anything built up to that point, save for maybe the Tatra 77, Citroën SM or Tucker Torpedo.
Elements of this prototype ended up gradually making it into production Porsches for years to come, and you can clearly see early influences on the second-generation 964 and even on the 959. It's featured here as the latest installment in a video series on rare historic Porsches unearthed from the company archives, following previous clips that featured a rare V8-powered 911 and a mid-engined 911 prototype. Scope out the latest episode in the video below.

Porsche rolls out new 919 Hybrid at racing gala

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

That Porsche is returning to Le Mans next year with a top-tier LMP1 entry is no news - we've known that for some time. We've even seen pictures of the car in question undergoing testing at various racetracks across Europe, been told who'll be driving it and given some basic parameters of what will make it go. We just haven't known what to call it, but now we do.
In detailing its full endurance racing program for next year at its Night of Champions in Weissach, Porsche has revealed that its new LMP1 racecar will be called the 919 Hybrid. So, something like the 918 Spyder, only one faster. With a four-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors, the 919 Hybrid will be taking on the top class at Le Mans next year, with a compelling roster of drivers on the docket: along with Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Neel Jani, Porsche has assigned its works driver Marc Lieb and F1 test driver Brendon Hartley to the effort. But that's not all Porsche has in store.
The factory is also supporting teams that will campaign the 911 RSR in the FIA World Endurance Championship as well as the United SportsCar Championship here in the US, taking Porsche off the pit wall and right in the race seat for next year as part of a comprehensive new racing program, details of which you can read in the press release below.
