Porsche 912 912 4 on 2040-cars
Santa Cruz, California, United States
*NEW UPDATE BELOW*The example here, chassis -354309, is perhaps the ideal 912 in every respect. It was produced exactly as it is viewed today, in the highly desired Ivory white with black interior. Sporting the optional and desirable Fuchs wheels (Fuchs included spare), five gauge 911 instrumentation, optional and desired 5 Speed Manual Trans, chrome front and rear bumpers, luggage straps and tinted glass, webasto heater, this example is well-optioned. The first and foremost item to convey is the documented 46K original miles, making it one of the lowest mileage 912's out there. So often were these cars driven, used, and passed along form owner to owner. Ill-care and neglect often contributed to languishing examples that have been rebuilt or refurbished over time leaving them without their original interiors and various other components. Confirmed this is all numbers matching vehicle, engine # and trans # are correct to the chassis # and all tags are original. Even the correct solex carbs and knecht air cleaners accompany the car. The original warranty and service book supports the 46K miles showing on the odometer have been concluded as the original distance the car has traveled. (We also have a collectors book confirming the original mileage to the car when auctioned.) The COA from Porsche also confirms the engine / trans / exterior and interior all match. The COA also concludes this is one of the highest optioned 912's of it's day, with 14 options listed, which I have personally never seen on any other 912!

Porsche 918 Spyder burns to ground in gas station conflagration
Mon, 29 Sep 2014There's one fewer Porsche 918 Spyder zipping along the roads of Toronto, Canada, today. A fire at a gas station over the weekend claimed one of the hybrid supercars in a massive blaze, and a portion of the inferno was caught on video.
According to our partners to the North at Autoblog Canada, the cause of the fire hasn't been officially confirmed yet, but witnesses reportedly claimed gasoline somehow came into contact with the hot exhaust outlets that exit out of the top of the supercar's engine bay. This was just one of two 918s believed to be in the Toronto area.
Other than a possible broken heart from the owner, the fire reportedly caused no injuries, and only the Porsche and gas pump appeared to sustain serious damage. Warning, the video of the conflagration does contain some explicit language.
Porsche looks back on very first 911 Turbo
Wed, 11 Jun 2014Porsche has really hit on a winning formula with its series of videos going inside its vault. So far, we've seen the V8 911 prototype, mid-engine test mule and aerodynamic prototype. The company is sticking with the 911 theme in the latest entry, but this time it's an actual production car - the very first 911 Turbo ever made.
Being the first Turbo would make it important enough, but the car was also a birthday present for Louise Piëch, daughter of Ferdinand Porsche and sister to Ferry Porsche, and she regularly used the car. The family didn't just hand her a random car off the assembly line, either. She got to make it her own with some interesting modifications. She supposedly even painted landscapes from inside the car.
You have to wonder what Piëch thought of her present. The early Turbos had a reputation for being a bit of a handful to drive. The boost tended to bring the power all at once, which wasn't always welcome when cornering. She deserves some honor just for driving the car on the curvy, alpine roads. Scroll down to learn about this important Porsche, and we can't wait to see what car the brand showcases next.
Watch Porsche's 918 Spyder break a sweat while hot weather testing
Wed, 19 Jun 2013With five months left until the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder enters production, Porsche engineers are still putting the hybrid sports coupe through a battery of last-minute tests. To give us new reasons to ogle over the car - as if we needed any more - Porsche has released a short video showing the 918 Spyder undergoing shakedown tests in the hot Nevada desert. And you can't drive through Nevada without visiting Vegas, too, right?
Although there's really nothing new to see in this video, it's still fun to watch as Porsche approaches one million test miles logged on this exciting new high-performance model. One interesting part (at around the 0:37 mark) shows the car taking off under electric power and then transitioning to engine power, which results in a mix of whirs and growls as the 918 Spyder switches from a 127-horsepower electric vehicle to an 887-hp hybrid supercar. Scroll down to watch - and hear - Porsche's latest creation in motion.
