1968 Porsche 912 Coupe
Summary:This is an excellent 1968 912 that was originally finished in the tangerine, the color it still wears. The car has seen significant recent restoration work and is structurally excellent. The California car was off the road for approximately 33 years, stored indoors in California. The car belonged to the same owner until about 2002 at which point another owner acquired it and began a restoration but left the car untouched for most of this period until selling the car in 2014, after which the restoration was completed. This car is in Monterey, CA 1968 Porsche 912 Coupe PLEASE NOTE: The car will be sold with correct steering wheel, which is not shown in the photographs. The new rubber trims for the rocker decos have also not been installed, and miscellaneous other items such as rubber door plugs. The 2014 restoration work included the following work: Cosmetic: exterior repaint, new rubber seals throughout, all new exterior trim including decos, horn grilles, new front turn signal lenses, bumper guards, new headlight trims, door threshold rubbers, new orange bar hood crest, refinished wheels, new hubcaps, new tires, new wiper arms and hardware, new turn signal and tail light housings, windscreen washer nozzles, door plugs and bumper guard plugs, new front windshield, new cad plating to various components such as latches and hardware Interior: new interior carpet, new trunk carpet, new washer tank, cap, and grommet. Mechanical: throwout bearing, rebuilt brake calipers, rebuilt carburetors, tune-up, repainted engine sheetmetal and oil filter housing, new engine decals, new starter, rebuilt fuel pump, new shift bushings, new master cylinder, new battery, new deck lid shocks front and rear. The car presents beautifully, with very nice paintwork and fresh exterior trim throughout. The window frames are essentially the only external area that presents as anything other than freshly restored. There are light scratches on the window frames. The decos are as new throughout, including the door top trims and front and rear windscreen decos and seals. The car is structurally exceptional. The gaps and fit are excellent throughout and the panels are extremely straight. The undercarriage is exceptionally nice and free of corrosion, including floor pans, seat pans, torsion bar mounts, front suspension pan, and gas tank support. The interior is also in excellent shape, with new perlon carpets, reupholstered seats, and new headliner. The trims and gauges are in very good unrestored condition. The dashboard is nearly perfect with a single very small crack (see photo). This 912 has exceptional presentation and appears essentially as new, both inside and out, and has an outstanding body with no corrosion of significance. This is not a car where the photos make it look better or worse than it actually is. The photos accurately convey the condition of the car, and it is a high level driver that would make both the casual enthusiast and the serious collector proud to call their own. It comes with original owner’s manual in excellent condition. Click here to see all photos and description Nuts and Bolts:The car is available for inspection in Monterey, CA. Conquest and controversy conclude the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona [spoilers]
Sun, 26 Jan 2014If you don't wish to know who won the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona, you should avert your eyes right now. We'll even give you a double-space to skedaddle...
For those of you still with us, the first race in the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) is done, but the discussions about it certainly won't end for a while. Daytona Prototypes claimed the first four overall places, the top spot taken by the No. 5 Action Express Coyote-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi, Sebastien Bourdain and Burt Friselle. The 16th and final caution of the race bunched the field up for an eight-minute sprint to the flag, so the first place getter finished just 1.4 seconds ahead of the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Max Angelelli. Third place went to Brian Friselle in the No. 9 Action Express Chevrolet Corvette DP, 20 seconds down. Chevrolet power hasn't taken the overall win since 2003, eleven years later it scores a one-two-three-four. The No. 6 Muscle Milk/Pickett Racing ORECA-Nissan 03 scored fifth place, the top LMP2 finisher.
The Prototype Challenge class win went to the No. 54 CORE Autosport team of Colin Braun, Jon Bennett, Mark Wilkins and James Gue.
The pre-race and first in-race report from Le Mans
Sat, 22 Jun 2013The 2013, 90th anniversary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has begun, tragedy marking the opening laps with the death of Allan Simonsen. We're at the track now as a guest of Audi and plan to stay through the evening, and even we haven't been able to find out what caused the accident - the only video is from just after the incident, and beyond the statement from ACO there's been no more news. The Aston Martin in the LM GTE Am class and its all-Danish drivers had taken pole in its class and was one of the favorites to win.
The pre-race report will come first, and even thought we can't spoil the race because we're only five hours into it at the time of writing, we'll put all of the news at the end in case you don't even want the updates.
Or you can go straight to the high-res galleries above.
'Latest production version' of Porsche 918 shown off on Twitter
Fri, 16 Aug 2013Porsche posted a picture of what it is calling "the latest production version" of the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder on Twitter. It looks like the gasoline-hybrid supercar is being driven sportively on some California back roads during Monterey Speed Week.
Whatever updates were made to this version aren't visual (except for the paint), as the one Chris Harris drove last spring and another seen hot-weather testing in Nevada both had production bodies. We presume the changes are relatively minor and more than skin deep - perhaps brake calibration, suspension tuning or tweaks to the powertrain - but Porsche didn't release any more information.
The 918 Spyder is Porsche's latest supercar, which will compete with the LaFerrari and the McLaren P1 hybrid supercars. The Porsche may be the underdog of the group when considering horsepower, acceleration, top speed and price, but the 887-horsepower brute has the most advanced hybrid drivetrain of the three.
