1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe 2-door 3.2l on 2040-cars

Year:1989 Mileage:304000
Location:

Flushing, New York, United States

Flushing, New York, United States

This is an extremely reliable high miles (300K) daily driver that I have been using for the past 12 years.  Clean title, no accidents. I love this car, and have been caring for it as the last car I'll ever own, but recent divorce forces sale.  It has been garaged, but driven almost daily.

Good Points:
  • Engine bottom-up rebuild at 240Kmi (I have most of the records).  Runs v. strong.
  • Tranny good & tight.
  • Brakes, clutch, master&slave cylinders new 50K mi ago
  • Sunroof rebuilt 5k mi ago
  • New high torque starter 50k mi ago with new wiring harness (complete rewire, starts 100% of the time)
  • Optima acid-free battery
  • New Fuel pump 10K mi ago
  • New right side front susp. a-arm 2k mi ago
  • New gas tank 40k mi ago
  • V. nice audio system with seperate 75W amp and top-line Alpine head (v. nice) with (pre-5) iPod audio & power cable and regular headphone audio jack for non-iphones
No mechanical problems other than:
  • Driver window doesn't lower.  Needs rebuild.
  • Some rust spots (4): The drive & pass windshield corners, pass door sill, driver door striker plate.  Rust is small and i've treated them with near-matching paint, but they should be dealt with.
  • Sm. baseball-size dent in RR fender, no paint loss.
  • The front spoiler/air dam is completely covered in rust.  I have a replacement but needs to be painted to match (it is white).
The car cannot be registered in NY until June 2014 due to an insurance lapse.  Long story, but nothing to do with the car.

I put a lot of blood, sweat & tears (as well as many swear words) into this car and I will only sell it to someone who expects to care for it, someone who intends to repair the rust before it gets bad, and get it back to its glory.  This is a beautiful car, a beautiful color, and the 89 3.2 Carrera is considered by many to be the pinnacle of the 911 - I certainly think so.

I am the third owner, I've had it for 12 years.  Previous two owners in N. Carolina.

Porsche finally moving ahead with flat four engine

Sun, 23 Mar 2014

When Porsche released the first Boxster in 1996 and the first Cayman in 2005, the idea was to create an entry-level model for the German automaker's sports car range. The latest iterations of both closely related models, however, have begun to encroach dangerously on the 911's territory, particularly in their newest GTS specifications. That could be about to change, however, with the introduction of a four-cylinder engine for the compact mid-engined coupe and roadster.
According to Automotive News, Porsche is finally preparing to launch a new boxer four engine in the Boxster and Cayman, following years of speculation. The engine would be based on the same architecture as the company's famous flat six, but with two fewer cylinders to cut weight. Don't expect it to cut much in the way of performance, however: Porsche chief Matthias Muller indicates that the new engine could produce as much as 395 horsepower - significantly more than even the 340hp flat six in the Cayman GTS, suggesting that the engine could even find its way into the 911 as well.
It's no more clear which markets would get the four-cylinder engine, either. But wherever it is offered and in whichever form, it wouldn't be the first time we'd see a Porsche with a four-pot engine. Not by a long shot. Both the classic 912 and 356 were powered by boxer fours, as was the 914 - not to mention the 718 pictured above and the iconic 550 Spyder. The front-engined 924, 944 and 968 packed inline-four engines, but the last of those were discontinued in the 1990s. The prospect of a four-cylinder Boxster/Cayman has been rumored for many years now, most recently joined by the possibility of a four-pot Macan as well.

2014 Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 Cup step out early

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Though Porsche won't be feeding us the full 911 enchilada until tomorrow's Geneva-based festivities, we have managed to scare up some official images of the 2014 911 GT3, as well as the all-new 911 GT3 Cup. As Porsche is celebrating 50 years of the 911, we anticipate a good day for great cars.
The new GT3 looks every bit the proper successor to the racy 911 nameplate, with a fixed rear wing large enough to serve cocktails on, a curvaceous body kit and 20-inch wheels that offer a dominating on-road stance. It's a good bet that Porsche will have coaxed something like 450 horsepower from the naturally aspirated, 3.8-liter flat-six engine that hangs over the car's rear axle. A seven-speed manual and Porsche's own PDK transmission are the likely gearbox offerings.
Should the mental quickness and imposing wingery of the standard GT3 not be enough for you, future racecar driver, Porsche is also bringing a GT3 Cup car to Geneva. The German automaker has given just a few scant details about this Cup car - 460 hp on tap, a production run of just 2,400 units - including three images of the kitted out racer. Certainly more and finer details will emerge, when Porsche shines the spotlights on its new 911s tomorrow.

Hyundai, Porsche top J.D. Power APEAL study

Wed, 23 Jul 2014

Just as they did in the Initial Quality Study, Porsche and Hyundai have taken the premium and non-premium crown, respectively, for the 2014 J.D. Power APEAL study. This is the tenth consecutive year for that Porsche has been rated the best premium make in the APEAL study, which attempts to figure out how pleased owners are with their purchases. For 2014, it asked 86,000 owners of MY2014 cars to rate their vehicles in 77 different categories 90 days after their initial purchase. The resulting figures were plugged in deliver the APEAL score, which is rated on a 1,000-point scale.
The industry average sits at 794 points for 2014, although that's a one-percent decline over last year's rating. In this year's study, premium brands averaged 840 out of 1,000, while non-premium makes average 785. For their part, Porsche netted an impressive 882 points, while Hyundai earned an 804. Interestingly, only four non-premium brands (Hyundai, Ram, Volkswagen and Mini) finished above the industry average for 2014.
It's also interesting to see the clear delineation between premium and non-premium brands, with an eight-point gap between the non-premium champ, Hyundai, and the lowest-rated premium brand, Volvo.
