Location:

Fairfield, California, United States

1978 Porsche 911 SC Targa in very good daily driver condition.  Nice example of an original 911 that is not concourse but a very nice car that would make the driver proud.

Interior:  Shows signs of wear but in very nice condition, with typical dash cracks.  Seat are very good except for slight cracking on outer edge (visible in photo) and similar crack on very tops of seats.  Carpet is average with no holes or rips.  Headliner is brand new, done same time as Targa top restoration.

Exterior: Paint is very good and shiny with no dents and very few chips (you need to judge for yourself).  Freshly restored Targa Top with new vinyl and foam.  Very nice Fuch wheels with good tires and whale tail.

Engine: Starts right up and idles smooth.  Has Carrera tensioners and pop-off valve.  915 5 speeds shifts smooth and quite.  Clutch depresses smooth and also with no noise or slipping.

Mechanical:  This car seems to be in good sound, rust free condition.  Inspection of the underside shows normal condition for a car of this age.  No rust or any signs of damage.  Suspension appears to be in good condition  and everything is fairly clean (for the underside of a car).  Brand new brakes on all four corners.

Overview: I tried my best to show all aspects of this car to help anyone interested in making a decision.  You need to see it for yourself in order to; 1: Appreciate how nice it is. 2: Decide if, in your eyes, this is the car for you.  Different people have differing opinions. Please inspect photos carefully as they are part of the description.

I am prepared to repeat the auction if it does not sell the first time around. PLEASE BID SINCERELY. I do not play games with auctions and I expect the same of bidders. Remaining balance must be satisfied within 10 days via confirmed funds prior to release of vehicle and documents. Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer. I will help in any way I can to load car on a trailer.  I may be able to recommend a shipper and happy if I can be of help.  .  If you do a Google search you will find more shippers than you can cope with. I generally recommend asking friends or enthusiast club members if they have anyone they recommend. I will store this car and protect it to the best of my ability for up to 30 days.  California buyers, I will need a few extra days to smog after end of auction.

Please read description again before bidding as I may add things I forgot about.

Please: No trades or low offers outside of ebay...

Jaguar F-Type squares off against Porsche 911, Aston V8 Vantage with Chris Harris

Fri, 21 Jun 2013

Chris Harris is back on the job, taking on really really difficult car questions like: Which enormously sexy and good-to-drive, high-performance convertible is the top of the heap? As one of the hottest cars in the luxury space right now, the Jaguar F-Type S is, of course, in on the action. Competition comes in the form of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster and the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. Sun-loving CEOs who despise test-driving need look no further.
Scroll on below for a fully featured (with a running time of more than 20 minutes) comparison video. Harris does his best to entertain - in a typically nitpicky and made-up-British-words fashion - and the moving pictures are lovely to look at. Kick back, pour a pint and get your weekend started off right.

Porsche unlocks secrets of its mid-engine 911

Fri, 23 May 2014

Porsche is beginning to realize that it's sitting on a goldmine of automotive history with its secret vault full of rare cars. Autoblog toured it a few months ago, and we were amazed at all of the curiosities hidden inside. Now, it's starting to let more folks in thanks to a new series of YouTube videos. The first covered the 965 prototype that shoved a water-cooled, Audi V8 into one of its cars. Next up, a mid-engine 911 that acted as the powertrain test mule for the Boxster.
The Porsche 911 is inextricably linked to its rear-engine layout. They go together like peanut butter and jelly. However, at the time Porsche was developing the Boxster, the company didn't want to lay all of its cards out of the table during testing. As opposed to using camouflage, it put a whole different car on top. The prototype looked just like any other 911 Targa of the day, but the biggest giveaway that something was amiss was the heavily tinted rear window. By obscuring it, inquisitive journalists couldn't peak at the new engine that replaced the backseat.
It might not look like anything too important on the outside, but this is a major piece of Porsche Boxster history underneath. Scroll down to watch the video about this fascinating prototype.

Jay Leno puts carbon fiber wheels to the test on a Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Thu, 04 Sep 2014

Jay Leno's Garage usually focuses on looking at cars new and old, speaking to their owners and then Jay taking a drive to see what he thinks. However, Leno throws his usual shtick to the curb this week to do a full product test of the carbon fiber wheels from a company called Carbon Revolution. If you're not interested in hearing about wheels for 18 minutes, don't worry. They get mounted on a Porsche and are tested back-to-back with stock wheels, and Leno takes the 911 for a track test, too.
While carbon-fiber wheels aren't exactly a new idea, Carbon Revolution's goal is to create a lightweight, one-piece product that can be mass produced. The company even claims that it already has a deal with an OEM automaker to offer them on a vehicle in a few years. The key to the technology is that it doesn't need an expensive autoclave to be made.
In the meantime, the company's carbon fiber wheels are available as an aftermarket option for about $15,000 a set, according to the video. They weigh in at about 15.5 pounds each and offer OEM-levels of stiffness, so they could cut some unsprung mass off of a performance car. Watch here as Jay and his mechanic Bernard lap Willow Springs and give their feedback about what they think of this cutting-edge technology.
