Barn (garage) find has been in not so friendly storage since 1984
Car was modified slightly and many engine parts were not there, I do have the original engine block correct stamped with the VIN standard bore, I do not have the correct heads, intake, carb, distributor etc, just the bare block. Most of the parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive.
The original transmission, bell housing and shifter are also MIA.  The original clutch linkage is there with the pedals and z bar.
The original 8.5 10 bolt posi with 3.23 gears and rear disc brakes is there.
The body is very solid except for three areas shown in the photos, the drivers side tow board under the pedals has some good size holes and will need to be patched or replaced.  The cowl around the body trim tag has some perforation.  The weatherstrip trough on the drivers side t top is rusted through in one spot.  The quarters and trunk floor are very solid, the car had nitrous and a trunk mounted battery so there are several small holes 4 @ 5/16" and three larger 1/2 holes for the cables and nitrous line.  The front fenders have some surface rust on the bottom edge as do the doors.   The hood is straight but does have surface rust.  The shaker has been modified and the bottom portion removed and it was bonded to the hood, the metal air cleaner assembly is missing.  All the Trans Am specific flares and spoilers are there, the aftermarket rear flares shown have been removed and sold.
The interior is the original deluxe hobnail cloth in red and in very good condition except for some fading on the top of the rear seat.  The door panels have good vinyl but the rear paper is warped and the carpet on one is damaged.  The dash and steering wheel are excellent.

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."

Looking back at Oprah's free-car giveaway 10 years later

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

Oprah kicked off her 19th season in dramatic fashion by giving all 276 members of the studio audience a free car.
Molly Vielweber's Pontiac G6 appears unremarkable at first glance. It wears forest green paint, rolls on five-spoke aluminum wheels, and it has a sizeable scrape in the driver's side door, the scar of a decade's worth of hard use. You wouldn't notice it parked at a big box store or cruising on the highway. Pontiac made hundreds of thousands of G6s in the 2000s, and a lot are still on the road. It's unremarkable in every way except for the front license plate, which reads, "Oprah 6."

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.
