Hello and thank you for checking out my auction. For sale is the fastest and best-handling car I've owned. Because you are reading this you probably already know what a Pontiac Firehawk is: a lot of fun wrapped in collectible modern muscle.

For those who are new to Firehawks or stumbled across this looking for Firebirds or Trans Ams: The Pontiac Firehawk was a factory performance option that could be ordered on Formula and Trans Am models (RPO WU6 for this year) except WS6 cars. But who needs WS6 (325hp) when the magicians at SLP would turn the TA or Formula into a 345hp/345tq track-ready ripsnort?

This Firehawk is #284 of 741 built in 2000 (Registered: http://www.firehawkowners.com/year/2000.html). Although most Firehawks that year were Black or Red Trans Am coupes, this particular car happened to be ordered with some unique GM and SLP options. For starters, she is painted in Navy Blue Metallic (17% of 2000 Firehawks) with a handsome Tan leather interior.

Standard Firehawk Equipment included:

-Functional composite ram-air hood with functional heat extractors
-WU6 triggered addition of RPO V12 (Power steering cooler)
-Cat-back stainless steel performance exhaust with dual-dual outlets
-Upgraded 1LE suspension components
-17"x9" lightweight aluminum painted wheels
-Firestone Firehawk 275/40/ZR17 SZ50 17" tires
-Firehawk exterior graphics, front fascia badge, dash plaque and key fobs

Optional Firehawk Equipment (ordered on this particular car) include:

-Auburn High Torque, Performance Differential w/AAM cast aluminum cover (32% of 2000 Firehawks had this option)

Combination of leading edge Auburn Gear and American Axle Manufacturing technology enhances traction and helps reduce differential operating temperatures under certain driving conditions. System detects variance in the gripping force of each rear tire and redistributes the engine load as road conditions change, thereby enhancing vehicle performance and stability.

-Bilstein Ultra Performance Suspension System (35% had this option)

Offers handling that, according to Car and Driver magazine, "...works smarter, not harder...We're hard pressed to think of a car that rides better on 17-inch tires..." Motor Trend magazine added this assessment, "Handling? How about .91g on the skidpad?..." (Not offered on Firehawk convertible.)

-Castrol 'Syntec' High Performance Lubricants Package (39% had this option)

Castrol "Syntec" full synthetic engine oil provides superior protection and performance. Castrol "Syntec protects in ways other cars can't." The Castrol "Syntec" lubricants package includes Castrol's 500,000-mile "Maximum Protection" limited engine warranty program

-All-new, exclusive deck-lid spoiler with high mounted stop lamp (only available on Trans Am coupe)
This was a one-year option and can't be found on any other year Firehawk. Only 17% of 2000 Firehawks had this and this is one of 10 Navy Blue to have it.

-17"x 9" Chrome-Plated, 5-spoke Aluminum Wheels (82% had this option)

In addition to these options, the following aftermarket modifications have been made. No expense was spared to further enhance the performance and cornering rigidity of this car:

BMR - control arms
 - adjustable torque arm
 - panhard bar
 - transmission crossmember
 - rear-sway bar

TBYRN
 - subframe connectors

Hotchkis
 - strut tower brace

Pro 5.0 Short-throw shifter

BBK  ported throttle body

SLP Longtube headers

SLP High-flow catalytic converters

Borla full cat-back 3" adjustable exhaust with dual-dual intercooled tips

This car has not been abused or raced, rather the above mods enhance the typical driving experience (on-ramps, for instance). I have owned this car for the last 8 years and can say it drives as well as it did (nay, better) when new. It has an impressive torque and power band throughout the RPM range but can still deliver civil highway comfort and MPG (27+). Inside it is stock, even retaining the Pontiac Pioneer CD player (although the rear mounted 12-disc holder needs replacing). The only addition is a small plaque with the build number and a automatic alarm system (with control built into the factory key-fob). Interior is in great shape with very very minor wear on the driver bolster and a small hole from the previous owner. The typical window-sill cracks are present but not bad. The sun-visors will need replacing as the internal cardboard has aged but are still functional. Cosmetically, the car has less than normal rock chips in the front, a light scratch on the front fender and some minor pitting on the wheels. All paint is factory. Tires still have a lot of tread (rears replaced two years ago) and brake pads are recent. Wires have been replaced within the last year as well.

Whoever owns this car next will not be disappointed. The mileage is low but not so much that you won't feel bad enjoying this car for what she was born to do! I hate to let her go but I'm starting a new job and can't take them all with me (I also have a nice, slightly modified 1996 Impala SS DMMG for sale too if interested) so it is time for someone else to love and appreciate this phenomenal auto.

The car is located in Myrtle Beach so feel free to fly in (easy to get around!) and drive her home. I'm happy to set up any meetings with interested parties.

Saturn Vue ignition switch leads to new group of GM recalls totaling 312k

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

General Motors has another spate of recalls to announce. This time they cover 312,280 vehicles worldwide, including 269,041 of in the US, in a total of six campaigns. In 2014, the automaker has recalled 29,079,765 vehicles worldwide, with 25,754,356 of those in the US.
The largest among them covers 215,243 units of the Saturn Vue from 2002-2004 model years worldwide, 202,115 in the US. It's possible for the for the key to be removed even when the ignition isn't in the OFF position. The company knows of two crashes and one injury caused by this problem. Dealers are checking the parts and replacing the ignition cylinder and key set, if necessary.
Next is 72,826 models worldwide (48,059 vehicles in the US) of the 2013 Cadillac ATS four-door sedan, 2013 Buick Encore and 2013 Chevy Trax in Canada. It's possible that the for lap belt pretensioner to retract but not to lock, which could increase occupant movement during a crash. Both front, outboard lap belt pretensioners are being replaced, and a stop-sale is in effect on unsold models until the problem is repaired. There are no known crashes or injuries, though.

Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
