Hi, I am Ralph from Downeast Classics in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I am semi - retired , but try to offer special attention to each car I offer for sale. Heads and intake casting numbers correct to car. Block is correct on date code and casting # for 6.6. Stamped last digits do not match body vin, indicating early correct block replacement. Previous owner said everything original, however I believe block was replaced. Mechanicals are excellent. rebuilt Muncie 4- speed with new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. Recent dual exhaust with nice original chrome dual outlet side exhaust included for installation. Car steers straight, front end tight, new shocks, brakes replaced and actuate evenly and easily. Engine rebuilt, and starts immediately. It runs quietly and smoothly like new, with nice mellow dual exhaust. Hurst shifter tight and shifts perfectly. (no rattle or gear noise riding along in 4th gear ). Clutch works just right. Not so rigid to ruin enjoyment of shifting. This afternoon when I had her out I let it loose. Rubber in 3 gears without too much effort. This car is a blast to drive. Power steering feels great too. All gauges, speedo, tach, fuel, temp and alt., work properly. Lights all working. New tires on honeycomb original rims balanced and ride great. Although all body panels are fixable, I am including new old stock GM original replacement rt. fender ( 0riginal gm stock sticker, not aftermarket, worth about $1000) , drivers rear quarter. nice original endura bumper. See pics of floor and trunk pans. They are solid with some small perferations in floor pans, easily fixed. Hole in heal area of gas pedal. Inner and outer rockers are excellent. All subframe components very good. very small repair should be done where drivers rear pan meets subframe. I almost did not notice it. New carpet and headliner and package tray included.............Body is mostly original paint with exception of doors which were repainted on outside only. This is an unmolested original body with no body work ever. I was so tempted to repair and paint the car quickly, but decided to save the project for you guys that like to do it 100% right. Braces and underside pan metal is excellent with exception of cross brace behind rear bumper .see pic(easily replaceable). See pics of all parts. The parts included, particularly the rare GM fender are worth quite a lot. Also lots of time and money to make this a roadworthy dependable car. I am as always, offering this red edition Trans- Am at a low starting bid with no reserve. Those of you who know these cars are aware of the increased popularity of this color car without the bothersome ugly T-tops that leak. Great color, with clean body style and 4 gear original with correct engine. Car is really good in all the places that count. It is the right piece to do as investment. This car can pull 20K+ when completed. Thanks for looking. This auction is for people who know what they are doing, and with substantial + feedback. If your feedback is less than 20 give me a call for permission to bid. I do not allow unwanted low feedback bids to remain to preserve the integrity of the auction for legitimate bidders

Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.

'67 Chevy Corvair convertible vs. '86 Pontiac Fiero in cult classic showdown

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

Every few a decades, the folks running General Motors lose their minds briefly try to market a car that public doesn't see coming and often aren't ready for. In the '60s there was the rear-engine, air-cooled Chevrolet Corvair, then the mid-engine Pontiac Fiero in the '80s and the completely bizarre Chevy SSR in the 2000s. What all of these had in common was that they bucked the trend for American models of their era, for better or worse. The latest episode of Generation Gap tasked the hosts with finding two cult classic vehicles to choose between; they came come up with two of these quirky products from The General.
On the classic side, there's a 1967 Chevy Corvair Monza convertible. Being from later in the production run, it wears slightly more aerodynamic styling than the earlier, boxier examples. Hanging out back is an air-cooled, 2.7-liter flat-six pumping out a robust 95 horsepower. In the other corner is the somewhat more modern 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE with a mid-mounted, 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" four-cylinder, an engine nearly ubiquitous in GM cars of the '80s.
Judging by when they were new, the Corvair was far more successful than the Fiero with over 1.8 million sold. Of course, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any Speed kind of poisoned the well, even if the poor safety reputation wasn't entirely deserved. The Fiero on the other hand only lasted for a few model years before shuffling off, but it eventually got its own performance boost with the V6 version and rather attractive GT models. Check them both out in the video and tell us in Comments which you want in your garage.

STUDY: Ford owns brand loyalty in 2009; Scorned Saturn, Pontiac buyers will look outside of GM

Fri, 16 Oct 2009

Ford buyers appear to love their cars more than customers of any other automotive brand, returning back to the American automaker when it comes time to purchase their next vehicle. According to a study by Experian Automotive, six of the top 10 vehicles for customer brand loyalty wear badges from the Blue Oval. That includes the Ford Fusion (62.4 percent), Ford Edge (57.9 percent), Ford Five Hundred/Taurus (56 percent), Ford Freestyle (51.9 percent), Ford Escape (49.4 percent) and the Ford Focus (47.57 percent).
Other vehicles making up the top 10 include the Toyota Prius (52 percent), Chevy Impala (51.7 percent), Toyota Camry (47.8 percent) and Toyota Corolla (47.56 percent). This brings up an interesting question: With the closing of automotive brands like Saturn and Pontiac, where are those buyers to turn for their next automotive purchase?
Apparently, not back to General Motors. According to Experian, Pontiac owners are most likely to look to the Ford lineup for their next car or truck and Saturn shoppers will switch to Toyota or Honda - not particularly surprising given that Saturn was meant to compete with import brands. Experian predicts that GM's overall market share will fall from 20 percent to about 17.5 percent, with most of the slack being picked up by Ford, Honda and Toyota.
