1997 Pontiac Formula Firebird Firehawk 6-spd, T-tops W/all Slp Options - Ram Air on 2040-cars
Newtown, Connecticut, United States
One of the last great Pontiacs
built! This 1997 Formula would have been a great collector’s item just as
it sits in tuxedo black with leather interior, T-tops, manual 6spd
transmission, A/C & the full complement of power features. However
this car was ordered with the SLP FIREHAWK package & ALL of the optional
competition model upgrades making it one of the most sought after performance
cars of its day.
Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of Options listed above: $4,595.00 Optional FIREHAWK Upgrades Ordered:
Total SLP Firehawk Options Ordered/Installed: $8,139.00 This car was also built with the T43 up-level (Trans Am) rear spoiler & is coded correctly on the SPI tag in the center console - not all Firehawks received this upgrade. Added to the already hefty price of $25,114.00 for the Formula and with a dealer markup added for rarity - this car stickered at $36,248.00 when sold new at Capitol Pontiac/Buick/Cadillac in Boise, ID in 1997! Documentation includes the original window sticker, the SLP sticker, Optional Equipment sticker with adjusted market value, original (blank) SLP ordering package with photo, and all door jamb stickers from Pontiac & SLP intact & in beautiful legible condition. The car has been maintained beautifully and it shows. Replaced in the last 6 months: Distributor, plug wires, valve cover gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets, PCV valve & hoses, Serpentine belt, all fluids/filters and two tires. The A/C is fully charged & works properly, the window motors work as they should and the headlight buckets operate correctly. There are no codes present or pending, the clutch is tight, engine strong, free flowing SLP exhaust has a great throaty sound and the car handles like it is on rails! This car is in very nice driver condition with only a few defects worth mentioning. The car has been refinished and the paint shows nicely with very few chips, scratches or cracks in the paint on the front & rear bumper covers. One of the fog lights is missing (easily replaced), the driver's seat has a small tear from a careless mechanic with something in his back pocket, and the chrome on the four wheels has started to lift & peel. This is a car you can purchase to drive any day to work or for weekend trips to the beach. Its factory rated at 26 mpg on the highway and will do better if you can restrain yourself from standing on the gas pedal - on a recent 200 mile trip I got 25 mpg while fighting the temptation to push the car. Values on these cars have started to climb and those equipped with the competition options rarely come up for public sale and command the highest prices. This one is conservatively valued based on miles & condition and should continue to rise over the years. These cars are the COPO Camaros of this generation and are already recognized as such. I had planned on keeping this car for a while but have been offered another car I've been chasing for years so it needs to go. The car is available as needed for inspection/verification
and test drive but realize - once you drive it, you will want it! As
always - please don't waste your time or mine if you are not a serious
buyer/collector or need to ask somebody's permission to buy the car or use the
money. Low ball offers are for amateurs, real collectors have done their
research and know what these cars are worth and understand their rarity - this
is not your regular Firebird/Formula/Trans Am & the FIREHAWKS were not all
built the same! I'm pricing this car well below market value & this is a no reserve auction so bid to win! PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS CAR if you do not intend to purchase it. It has been re-listed because ericzimmerman2 (161) bid without having the money to purchase it and was then unable to secure financing! This is completely irresponsible and against e-Bay rules unfortunately I cannot leave him negative feedback so the world will never know!
On Mar-08-14 at 12:41:33 PST, seller added the following information: I was asked earlier if I could forward an engine shot & was surprised I had not included one in the auction listing - so I took one today & loaded it up. This morning while looking for a brochure for a different car of mine, I realized I had two original 1997 Firebird dealership brochures. Since one is a duplicate that's in beautiful condition I will send it along with the documentation. This is a great car, somebody is going to be very happy with it!!! |

GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners
Fri, 28 Oct 2011This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.
Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way
Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.
2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am
Mon, 13 May 2013No, you didn't read our title wrong. This is a 2013 model year Trans Am, and yes, that is a Pontiac logo affixed to the front of the car. But don't bother dialing up your local General Motors dealership just yet. This is the new Hurst Edition Trans Am created by the Trans Am Depot located in Tallahassee, FL. Having spent a number of years restoring early Trans Am models, the crew at Trans Am Depot finally did what many Pontiac enthusiasts wish GM would have done - create a modern Trans Am using the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro.
As the former owner of a 1977 model, I've been wanting to check out Trans Am Depot ever since I first saw the company have American Choppers build a trio of motorcycles inspired by its Pontiac remakes. So I jumped at the chance to head to Florida's capital city to visit the shop and drive its latest creation, the new Hurst Edition Trans Am. As a collaboration with Hurst, this car made its debut at the 2012 SEMA Show and then popped up again on our radar with a cheesy yet perfectly fitting video back in March.
