1981 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo - 4.9 Liter California Car - White/blue on 2040-cars
Palmdale, California, United States
1981 PONTIAC TRANS AM TURBO 113,000 miles 3rd owner California car Hagerty Collector Car Value (Level 4 car) = $7,100
This car was just purchased in a package deal (with a motorhome) from the second owner. My initial plan was to fix it up with a new paint job, emblems, interior pieces (where needed), etc., and then sell it. But I decided to try listing here as-is to see if there is some interest in it. This is an opportunity to get a very straight (and rare) Turbo Trans Am for a great price! The car is certainly not perfect by any means, but it does have a lot going for it. It is very straight, with no visible body damage (or repairs). It runs and drives extremely nice, tracks straight, and shifts smoothly. It has factory A/C, all the gauges work, turbo indicators (on the hood) work, etc. The seats are in very, very nice condition. It definitely needs a paint job and new emblems, and some of the exterior trim pieces are a bit loose. The dashboard also has some cracks, though it has a dash cover (albeit an aged one). Before I agreed to the deal, I took the car to an ASE certified shop to have them check everything out. They said the motor appeared to run strong, and all the fluids were in excellent condition. Here are their notes to me:
The car was lowered in the front and rear, but I have the stock spindles to return it to its stock height. If you have any questions regarding the car, please feel free to let me know. Note: Car is also listed locally and generating interest, so we reserve the right to end the listing at any time. PAYMENT NOTES: A $500 deposit via PayPal is due within 48 hours of the close of the auction, with the balance due within 7 days. Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer. The car is located in the Antelope Valley, which is in northern Los Angeles County. |

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes
Mon, 31 Mar 2014When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:
Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way
Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.
STUDY: Ford owns brand loyalty in 2009; Scorned Saturn, Pontiac buyers will look outside of GM
Fri, 16 Oct 2009Ford buyers appear to love their cars more than customers of any other automotive brand, returning back to the American automaker when it comes time to purchase their next vehicle. According to a study by Experian Automotive, six of the top 10 vehicles for customer brand loyalty wear badges from the Blue Oval. That includes the Ford Fusion (62.4 percent), Ford Edge (57.9 percent), Ford Five Hundred/Taurus (56 percent), Ford Freestyle (51.9 percent), Ford Escape (49.4 percent) and the Ford Focus (47.57 percent).
Other vehicles making up the top 10 include the Toyota Prius (52 percent), Chevy Impala (51.7 percent), Toyota Camry (47.8 percent) and Toyota Corolla (47.56 percent). This brings up an interesting question: With the closing of automotive brands like Saturn and Pontiac, where are those buyers to turn for their next automotive purchase?
Apparently, not back to General Motors. According to Experian, Pontiac owners are most likely to look to the Ford lineup for their next car or truck and Saturn shoppers will switch to Toyota or Honda - not particularly surprising given that Saturn was meant to compete with import brands. Experian predicts that GM's overall market share will fall from 20 percent to about 17.5 percent, with most of the slack being picked up by Ford, Honda and Toyota.
