1981 Pontiac Trans Am.
From what I have read about 17% came out of the factory with the Chevrolet 305 Engine and Transmission.
I have also heard the Chevy is a Z28 powerplant and actually is the best option to get.
This 305 runs excellent and is smooth running.
The odometer reads just over 95,000 which I tend to believe is an accurate reading.
This Solar Gold TA is a Very Basic Unit.
A 4 Speed Stick and NO-AIR Conditioning.
One of the few additions is the T-Top Roof Panels and Color Keyed Turbine Wheels.
The Wheels and Radial TA tires are both in excellent condition.
This car cruises smoothly and effortlessly at 60 MPH.
I believe this is a Numbers Matching Car.
Even the original Air Injection System (AIS smog pump) is still there.
The Trans Am is unique for it's Beautiful Styling and the Famous "FireBird" on the hood.
The Trans Am look seemed to get better every year.
From the Integrated Bumper 1976 to the Bat Front End of the 77-78.
Then peaking with the Low Grille 79-81s.
This car is all there.
......................................................................................................................................
You can take this car just as it is to car shows - but this would make it even better.
x - Getting into a gear requires the clutch pedal to be all the way to the floor.
.....When the car is warm you need to turn the engine off to put it into reverse.
.....The car is very drivable but a Chevrolet Dealer said it needs a Clutch Assembly and Flywheel.
x - Most of the undercarrage is pretty solid - there are a couple of problem areas.
.....The Passenger Floor Pan area has some rust - to make it like new would require installing a new Passenger Side Floor Pan.
x - The area by the rear bumper has some bad rust (see Picture) .
..... Everything front of this is pretty solid.
x - The passenger door if closed hard goes in too far.
......May be the door latch - I don't know what else it could be.???
x - The aftermarket Radio does not tune easily.
x - Some dash lights are out.
x - I saw body filler at the bottom of each front fender. Both rear quarter panels look real solid.
x - The hood could use an adjustment if you want it to close perfectly.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

Trans Am Depot teases 2014 GTO

Mon, 24 Jun 2013

Here comes the Judge. Court is in session. The verdict is in. How many more tired clichés can we come up with? It hardly seems to matter, because it's happening: Trans Am Depot has announced via the teaser video below that it is launching a 2014 GTO, complete with Carousel Red (bright orange, really) paint and full Judge badging.
The car is based on Trans Am Depot's 6T9 Goat, which, in case you don't get the reverential references, is meant to mimic the look of the 1969 Pontiac GTO. As with the company's other cars -including the 2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am we recently drove - the GTO will be based on the current Chevy Camaro, which means two doors, V8 engines and rear-wheel drive, just like the muscle cars of days past.
As for actual details of what's under the 2014 GTO's hood, we're completely left hanging. We'd expect some sort of power adder (turbo, supercharger or possibly some other form of a highly massaged version of the Camaro's V8), and we certainly know that GM has any number of hi-po crate engines to choose from.

Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.
