1979 Pontiac Trans Am, True rust free, low mile Survivor. One of Detroit's favorites for sure. 45,000 original, one owner, garaged miles. Time capsule barn find!! End of an era Icon that was /is a pleasure to drive down the road. One owner, always garaged rust free all original survivor. This rare low mile car never went more then 10 miles from the dealer in sunny Orange county California that sold it new. Crazy story right? This car was owned by an engineer that only had a few miles to commute to work. It was a daily driver, just a low mile daily commute. This car has always been driven, registered, insured and maintained as it still is to this day. This is a fly in and drive home car. It runs absolutely great!!! New tires, Super tight suspension, supple door rubber, perfect original dash pad, clear sharp gauges, working tach clock and more. The a/c is cool, Top it off with freon and it will be good to go. It just passed California's strict smog inspection with ease through the throaty dual exhaust. There is not one spec of rust anywhere on this car. Dry,dry, dry!!! You can eat off of the trunk floor. Super clean. Nicely appointed with the usual power options it also has a few more. Power trunk release, tilt wheel, rear defrost,am-fm stereo that sounds great, pulse wiper, power windows,locks.etc. This car is a pleasure to drive, no squeaks, rattles, shimmy's. Original upgraded factory interior. All the gauges, lights, cigarette lighter, rear defrost, function as they should. Only the water temp gauge needs some attention. I am looking into that now. Rare, rust free, pampered yes, perfect no! As you can see Pontiac was known for their problem with the silver paint in 1979, Dealers were busy keeping up with the warranty work on this color. The original owner was getting up there in age and never made the paint a priority. Lesson learned as it should have been done and this is how it sits today. I considered painting this car but thought I would first see if someone wanted a survivor, simple project to give some tlc to. Only original once I didn't want buyers to wonder what may be under the paint. Here it is,a one owner rust free, low mile tight survivor. True California blue plate Trans Am. The carpet is a little worn as are the seat edges. Still what you see is an honest example of some American iron. A stack of paperwork and records come with this car. The original title, registration Dealer contract when bought new, owners hand book. Please bid to win this rare car and ask all questions. This car is being sold as is! No Reserve. Good Luck!! |

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems
Mon, 30 Jun 2014General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
GM repairing 40,500 Pontiac Vibes as part of Toyota airbag recall
Wed, 09 Apr 2014General Motors has confirmed to Autoblog that the Pontiac Vibe is included in Toyota's just-announced recall action. The Vibe and the Toyota Matrix share a large number of parts, including the affected cable to the airbag.
"About 40,500 Pontiac Vibes from the 2009-2010 model years are included in the Toyota recall. Toyota designed and engineered the Vibe for Pontiac. GM will service customers with these vehicles when Toyota makes the parts available," said GM recall spokesperson Alan Adler to Autoblog in an email.
The recall covers 1.3 million Toyota units in the US, including 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris, plus the addition of the 2009-2010 Vibe. The models all have their airbag module attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on this cable can be damaged when turning the steering wheel. Once broken, the airbag deactivates and the airbag warning light comes on. Toyota has an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin repairs. It will begin notifying owners soon.
GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported
Thu, 13 Feb 2014General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
