1978 Pontiac Trans Am, T/a 6.6, 400, Factory 220hp, Z Code, Auto on 2040-cars
Clear Brook, Virginia, United States
I have a 1978 pontiac trans am. it is a Z code which was the optional 220 HP pontiac motor. the motor was rebuilt around 20k miles ago with documentation. it has an automatic transmision, which was also rebuilt I was told. the engine is matching numbers. i never checked the trans. i have the build sheet too. It has a/c, but the previous owner removed the compressor when he rebuilt the motor. the motor has a bigger cam, head work, and headers. the car runs strong and steers tight. The rear end gears were replaced with 411's. They have a slight howl at certain speed.. it has an aftermarked radio, but it has stopped working. The restoration evolution includes new orig GM full qtr panels, new fenders, new trunk floor and ext, and repaired/replaced left rear frame rail. The work appears to be professionally done. it looks good. the car was painted around 10 years ago with PPG single stage urethane. The paint is still very presentable, but not perfect. it has some nicks. i would consider it driver quality. the interior is all original except for new seat covers and a headliner. i do have a new console armrest which is not shown in the photos. the dash has one small crack. the car runs and drives well. the wheels are original and unrestored. you can reach me at 540-974-2110 with any questions. i am located along Interstate 81 in winchester va

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero
Fri, 26 Oct 2012At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."
Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally
Fri, 13 Jun 2014The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.
