1998 Pontiac Grand Prix Gtp For Parts on 2040-cars
Blackwood, New Jersey, United States
This is what I can tell you about it:
Has ~250,000 miles. Pulled the engine because it knocked. Bearing (piston and crank) are fine in the front half of the engine (where it was knocking) so I believe it is a wrist pin, and I just don't have the time to fix it up. Opened the Super Charger to check the coupling, it was not rounded, and was still supplying boost just fine. Oil was clean as well. As a matter of fact engine was still performing with full power with the knock. There were no shavings in the pan either. As you can see in the pictures, the clear is peeling. Other then that there is no damage to the body beyond dings from stones. I have been running Royal Purple w/Royal Purple Filter since I bought the engine at 120,000 miles with a regular oil change cycle. with very little oil loss (looks like it was seeping out of the valve covers). Parts recently replaced: New Plug and Wires New EGR Valve New Mass Air Flow Sensor Altenator (10,000 miles ago) Radiator (~40,000 miles ago) Front Wheel Bearings( ~40,000) with Moog Both Tensioner Pullies and belts Had Transmission rebuilt about 40,000 miles ago A/C Pump Tires have excellent tread and were recently (well within 20,000 miles) put on Custom exhaust from engine to tail which are either 4 1/4 or 4 1/2 inch pipes with high flow cat and 2 high flow mufflers.Still looks like new. This is the last time listing. After this car will be scrapped and the valuable parts sold off. I do know the value of the super charger alone is well over $400 which I am listing the car for. |

GM recalls 61k more vehicles in three campaigns
Sun, 05 Oct 2014Following a stop-delivery order for its new midsize trucks and a rash of recent recalls, General Motors is issuing three more campaigns covering 60,575 vehicles in North America with 57,182 of them in the US. As of October 1, the automaker has issued a total of 74 recalls (see the ridiculously long chart to the right) this year covering 26,495,070 units in the US.
The largest campaign covers 46,873 examples in the US of the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 and 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle imported from Australia. It's possible for the driver's knee to hit the key and make it move from the "Run" to "ACC" position while driving. GM says its Holden division is developing a fixed-blade key that's supposed to fix the problem by only allowing it to rotate toward the "On" position. There has been one crash caused by this fault but no injuries or fatalities.
The second recall is for 10,005 units of the 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V because "the fuel pump module electrical terminal may overheat." This can cause a flange to melt and allow the pump to leak fuel. GM specifies that the remedy for the CTS-V is replacing the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, but it doesn't specify how the STS-V is being repaired.
General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]
Fri, 26 Aug 2011You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.
NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys
Mon, 10 Jun 2013According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.
