Hello! For sale is my silver 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. It needs repair. I am the second owner and I purchased the vehicle in 2002 with 36,000 miles. It now has a whopping 317,948 miles!
* During a road trip to Wisconsin a few weeks ago something happened to the engine - it lost power and began misfiring. It never overheated and a mechanic suggested there may be a problem with the pistons.
* The 2.4L 4-cylinder engine is the original. Because of the many miles the engine did burn oil but was running smooth before the problem happened. During an attempt to fix problem - I replaced the spark plugs, the two ignition coils, ignition module, knock sensor, and crank position sensor...the problem remained the same -- for some reason, there is misfiring in cylinders 1 and 3. Also, I can hear a knock when engine is idling. I feel engine needs to be replaced but I'm not a mechanic.
* Air-conditioning works great. All lights work. All power windows/doorlocks work. Adult-driven. Battery is a year-old. Non-smoker. Original stereo with cd player.
* BONUS!!!! --THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED THIS YEAR, 2013 !! Yes, THIS PAST APRIL I PAID $1,800 FOR A COMPLETELY REBUILT TRANSMISSION! I have the receipts. Trust me, the trans is in excellent working order. It was installed by a trans shop when vehicle was at 305,000 miles. So...only 12,948 miles on the new transmission.
* Car runs but it shakes a lot because of the misfiring. Car is sold as-is. I have the vehicle title.
* Vehicle location is in the Chicago north side. Local pick-up only.
* Please ask me any questions you may have. I will be glad to help answer any requests. I have 100 percent feedback.
* Thank you for looking and happy bidding! :)

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
David Hasselhoff's own KITT replica up for auction
Tue, 08 Apr 2014Depending on when and where you grew up, the name David Hasselhoff likely conjures up images of Knight Rider, Baywatch, pop singer, or possibly a washed-up TV actor, but one thing that can never be taken away from The Hoff is his connection to one of the greatest automotive icons in pop culture. The Knight Industries Two Thousand, usually shortened to simply KITT, was the real star of Knight Rider for many fans. Based on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the car combined snarky quips for comedy relief and stunts to provide much of the show's actions. Now, Julien's Auctions is selling Hasselhoff's own replica as part of a larger sale of the actor's personal memorabilia collection.
This recreation is based on a 1986 Firebird and comes with all of the tech on the inside that now seems hilariously outdated, like the yoke steering wheel and plethora of buttons. The interior also thoughtfully includes a voice box with over 4,000 sound clips from the show. With a 5.0-liter V8 and an automatic transmission, performance is likely adequate and period correct. According to the listing, this car was created by fans and given to the Hoff. Sadly, the replica doesn't convert to Super Pursuit Mode like KITT could in later seasons, and we most associate KITT with conventional front-hinged doors to go with the power t-tops and ejector seats.
Bidding currently sits $27,500 with eight bids, since starting at $15,000. Julien's predicts it will sell for between $30,000 and $50,000. If there is some nostalgia for KITT in your heart, there is still plenty of time to bid.
How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car
Fri, 17 Oct 2014Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.
